So, Matt...were you always planning to share this F-Zero collab between you and Liam with us in mid-September, or did you intentionally wait until Nintendo shadowdropped F-Zero 99 so that you could take advantage of good, old-fashioned algorithmic synergy? 😉
i remember spending lots of hours beating hard mode on the chapters. they were almost day long endevors but i eventually did it. Chapter 2 on hard really is one of the hardest challenges. like not even the last one is as bad as Chapter 2
Holy shit. One of my favorite TH-camrs playing my favorite games of all time? Fuck yes! GX was so good. There was so much content! The courses were amazing, brutal, and beautiful. The story mode was so hard, but so much fun. Genuinely, I loge this game so much. F-Zero 99 is... fine, but I really want to see a GX remaster or remake someday. It was so good.
F-Zero GX is a masoquist's dream, not only are the story missions brutal challenges, not only do you realize the first time you finally beat a chapter that it was on EASY and there are two other much harder difficulties, but you have to BUY each chapter, via the in-game money you earn by beating the Grand Prix. You have to earn the opportunity to get absolutely destroyed.
back in 2004 at age 19 I beat all the story mode chapters on the hardest difficulty and also unlocked all the AX racers and their endings. Not sure I could do that again
I 100%ed this game when I was a teenager, which is insane to me now because today I'm always just happy to finish games on normal difficulty and then move on. It took a hell of a lot of work, but something about it was just so addicting.
My best friend and I, back in the day, were able to 100% this game. It took FOREVER to get past level 3, but after that, everything got easier. Level 3 was by far the most difficult, so my buddy Guthrie finally managed it. But he couldn't beat level 4, whereas I crushed it. We went back and forth from there. Eventually, we managed to see every dialogue option for every character when you beat the Gran Prix on every difficulty. Sadly, I'm much older now, and my reflexes are crap, so when I went back and tried to play it again, I failed miserably. But I still remember my best custom car that I had built back in the day, with my favorite unlocked parts....
The only I can play this game confidently is by changing the steering controls to the D-Pad. Absolutely a gem that needed more attention these days (aside from F-Zero 99).
- @27:20 It felt slower because he changed the camera angle. - The geometry and effects gets lowered when playing multiplayer with 3 or 4. - Story mode it's imposible and then you unlock hard wich it's even more imposible and then you get to see and dread that there's actually a very hard difficulty... I somehow managed to beat every chapter on very hard except the grand prix and Deathborn races (chapters 7 and 8 I belive) so I'm still missing 2 racers. F-Zero GX it's freaking amazing, I sometimes got strong urges to play it again and end up connecting my Game Cube again just for that.
I really wanted to unlock Ace, and my strategy guide said he was unlocked by beating every chapter on VERY HARD. So I went through one chapter at a time starting with 1, beating Hard, then beating Very Hard - skipping the difficulties I had already beat. I did not move on until the chapter I was on was completely beat. I reached chapter 9 - only two more difficulties! After a few attempts, I beat it on Hard. "Magic Seagull is unlocked" The guide lied to me! I only needed to beat the story mode on Hard difficulty! I couldn't even get remotely close to beating Chapter 9 on Very Hard. I was exhausted and unlocked my prize, so I decided to save Chapter 9 for another day. It pains me so much that I never went back to the game after that day to complete the final chapter. lol
I still member being a wee lad and spending hours to beat them Story Missions on that there Very Hard diffycolty to get those AX racers. I did get to play on an actual AX machine a couple times. We had an Arcade downtown that had one. It was so good. I think even as an adult it would be awesome.
15:43 Okay yeah, no, Liam, listen. The first GBA F-ZERO, Maximum Velocity, is _not_ a port of the SNES one. It's its own beast altogether, an alternate continuity to the SNES original - New setting, characters, new tracks, new ships. It retains the 5-lap elimination and boost systems from the SNES one, but otherwise it controls and feels completely different. It's super freaking satisfying to master and the new exclusive tracks and music themes are some of the best in the series too. You do _not_ wanna just skip it. Recommend giving it a proper go, especially once it releases on the Switch Online GBA library.
I remember this being the game I asked for Christmas '03. Difficult as fuck, but I managed to unlock everything. Vehicles, tracks, soundtracks, and all the characters' endings. I'm not sure if I would do it again, but if Nintendo decide to release a remaster... I probably will do it all over again.
Can vouch, Story Mode is very difficult, got to chapter 7 tops I believe. Love the series, glad to see F-Zero 99 being a thing at least, I know Mario Kart has got their lunch on any casual itch for unique tracks, but I'm hoping to see a brighter future for the franchise. Thanks for showcasing the game, one of the very few I know where blinking is potentially fatal.
I actually finished the story. There are some that are impossible if you try them on hard or god forbid very hard. The ones that i was able to complete on very hard were the story missions that were actually the most doable and also the ones that were the most fun.
Some games aren't meant for everyone and F-Zero is one of those games. Even if they made an easy mode for the game, they'd have to add bumpers on the sides or something because just making the AI easier to beat wouldn't be enough....and adding bumpers to the sides of the race track defeats the purpose of the game...
0:45 Yes, yes I did saw the recent Direct Liam. And we got what we both wanted for so long, a remake/remaster (Which is it? I have no idea honestly.) for Paper Mario Thousand Year Door. I would've loved to see your reaction to it but I'm sure that it was just as exciting as mine was when I saw it : ).
The loading on this game is non-existent. I guess the devs knew players would fail a lot (it's a hard game; every videogame magazine back then mentioned this in the reviews) and likely found a way to eliminate the load screen so as to keep the flow of one's failure and progress smoother so as to keep them invested vs just outright quitting after failing only to be met with a load screen.
I beat the story mode on hard, I almost managed expert but I put down my broken torn gamecube controller from the heavily intense gameplay and moved on with my life. Attempting to go back I'm reminded of my age instantly as I'm not sure how I managed it when I was younger. Still never beat it but, still my favorite F-zero and I hope Ninty does NOT port it unless they make it perfect and with an AX mode. The first GBA game was a great remake/sequel of the first game which was pretty novel and it's well worth giving it a chance, it's very much more F-Zero 1 with new everything though I think some of the old tracks are in it too. GP Legend was okay but Climax was dang good, thankfully there's a fan translation but we should have a F-zero collection by now. Gonna be terrible if F-Zero climax becomes NSO+ exclusive cause no one has that and there's little chance to play it online that way.
They should've swapped Port Town Aero Dive into the first cup, and swapped Aeropolis into the second cup. That first Aeropolis course is significantly more complex than Aero Dive, and should've at least been in the second, if not third, cup.
It's so fun to lose at this game, oh my god story mode is so hard. DAMN does it feel good to play this game. Also looking at speedruns as they do super risky tricks to speed up.
If you found chapter 2 difficult, trust me, that's just scratching the surface. Other chapters make it look like a walk in the park. But that's what makes this game amazingly rewarding.
On rare occasions, Goroh will fling himself off the track - elemenating himself from the race. This makes Very Hard a good deal easier. Just have to get incredibly lucky.
GX is infamously had, never played it (only AX), but I've seen the infamous SA rant. Did you ever play SART? Tight as a drum, and eye-wateringly savage. Great tunes.
I have come from the Grim Future of F Zero 99 Battle Royale, dont get me wrong its a SORTA cool idea but like you guys said when there hasnt been a mention in 20 years about a new game in the franchise AND F Zero GX exists I just came away feeling very meh (My Lord I was hyped when you guys said there was a new one though) The best/closest I have found is a game called Redout 2, its on most platforms, its pure racing no weapons like F Zero, lots of customization, looks incredible and sounds incredible and I cannot reccomend it enough to anyone its an amazing game that really scratches that F Zero itch (Some of the tracks take place in the mouth of a dormant Black Hole which looks as cool as it sounds) Talking about clones what was the game you guys mentioned was coming out on Steam at the same time as the Direct? VERY Curious
I have never touched an F-Zero game and have no nostaliga for the series, and I`m also not a fan of anti gravity racers. That being said, given the dedicated fanbase, and seeing this game in action here, I would still like to se it remastered like Metroid Prime was. Given the fact Nintendo has been remaking / remastering so many games as of late (especially from the GameCube era), I do think it`ll happen at some point, and I can`t help but wonder if F-Zero 99 was their way of gauging interest in the series, before fully commiting to the idea. It may also be the case that such a project might be well underway, and F-Zero 99 might just be a cheaky little teaser of what`s to come. In terms of Myamoto`s justification for why they don`t make a new game in the series, as much as it might pain alot of people, I agree. If they don`t have new gameplay ideas that can push the series forward in some way, than it`s hard to make a new game that will meet expectations. This doesn`t stop them from remaking the old games, though
It's tricky because there's not much to make F Zero stand out from prior games in the series. There's a certain style that can't be compromised. The ships are as they are - so no wildly varying ships like in Mario Cart. You don't have weapons. It plays as a straight racer. What they would need is strong multi-player and various game types. I would love to see them create a new F Zero, sticking primarily to the old formula without adding much. But I do get it.
Fans: we sure would love a new f zero game. Nintendo: how about instead, we release an old f zero game in out 99 series. Fans: f you. The game: *is actually pretty good. Fans: ...f you (but for a different reason this time)
Regarding the criticisms of the game economy, a skilled player can just repeat the story chapters on a higher difficulty to earn more tickets. A new player shouldn't skip grand prix mode to begin with. This is proven by the demonstrated player in this review finding his sea legs by playing a few vs. races. I cannot criticize anything this game has other than the aural aesthetics could have been better, especially the voice acting.
Those stages look so incredibly. Especially with about 30% extra width! Seriously though... it makes games look awful. If games don't support widescreen, just keep them in 4:3...
Nintendo: So you want another F Zero game after 19 years? Fans: Yes please oh yes Nintendo: Well do have a surprise for you! Introducing F Zero.... Fans: YES OH MY GOD YES ITS FINALLY HAPPENING!!!! Nintendo: 99 .. A battle royale game. Fans: What the actual F..........
I hope that Fzero 99 is both to test the water for a new game and it is really successful so nintendo brings out more fzero. We know it will please at least a few of their stockholders
Since this was recorded before NSO had GBA games I'm genuinely curious how long Mr McMuscles was willing to sit on this video. Like, hey, I respect it. But playing chicken with Nintendo about rereleasing a new F-Zero game vs releasing a video that could be making _some_ money is a bold choice. It might have never happened. Some might argue a new F-Zero still hasn't happened.

I didn’t know there was a “Ground Prix” mode😮
There's a pilot who is a skeleton in like, a coffin shaped ship that whips ASS
Matt just having this one in the pocket JUST IN CASE is some peak business.
Anyway, 99 is actually pretty fun and I hope all of you give it a shot. :)
Definitely. I was skeptical, but it's honestly a blast.
I'm enjoying the hell out of it. Hopefully enough people enjoy it that Nintendo decides to continue the series.
So, Matt...were you always planning to share this F-Zero collab between you and Liam with us in mid-September, or did you intentionally wait until Nintendo shadowdropped F-Zero 99 so that you could take advantage of good, old-fashioned algorithmic synergy? 😉
He explains at the start that it was in queue for when an F Zero game got announced lol
i remember spending lots of hours beating hard mode on the chapters. they were almost day long endevors but i eventually did it.
I love to see you amazed by the details of the spinning falcon's head!
Nice video as always!
back in 2004 at age 19 I beat all the story mode chapters on the hardest difficulty and also unlocked all the AX racers and their endings. Not sure I could do that again
9:08 With a 0.25 speed and furiously pressing pause I managed to see that it was at just 3 meters to the goal. A FFFFFUUUUU moment indeed
first ten seconds really are the f-zero gx experience in microcosm
I 100%ed this game when I was a teenager, which is insane to me now because today I'm always just happy to finish games on normal difficulty and then move on. It took a hell of a lot of work, but something about it was just so addicting.
I can only remember a few games that people complained about the difficulty when I was growing up. Fzero gx and DMC 3 are two I can recall.
Glad we got a new F-Zero and it's DAMN FUN.
The first 5 seconds is everything I love about this game. Never has a racing game felt so smooth coupled with the most vicous A.I of all time.
Real cool how you turned on widescreen at the last freaking minute 😁
having set almost at max velocity is prolly the best way, since you dont wanna slow down at any point.
Nice to know I'm not the only one who wants a RGG style F-Zero game. It's my dream.
I can only imagine how long this video has been sitting in the McMuscles vault, waiting.
There's only one proper way to finish "challenge of the bloody chain", to quote Dimitri, "Kill every last one of them!"
"Let's Watch Fzero Anime" please 🙏
Need for Speed Underground series had a story in 2003. Now I want to play F-Zero GX. It looks good.
Matt: *Doesn't realize the race is still going even though it's pretty clear, comes to horrible realization and panics*
Me: *Feels seen, validated*
The harsh rule of F-ZERO GX:
"If you ain't first, you're last..." - some NASCAR driver
"Magic Seagull is unlocked"
The guide lied to me! I only needed to beat the story mode on Hard difficulty!
I couldn't even get remotely close to beating Chapter 9 on Very Hard. I was exhausted and unlocked my prize, so I decided to save Chapter 9 for another day.
It pains me so much that I never went back to the game after that day to complete the final chapter. lol
I remember that story mode being SOOOOO hard!
Fzero GX and AX are my jam. John Tanaka and WonderWasp FTW
I still member being a wee lad and spending hours to beat them Story Missions on that there Very Hard diffycolty to get those AX racers.
I did get to play on an actual AX machine a couple times. We had an Arcade downtown that had one. It was so good. I think even as an adult it would be awesome.
I analyzed the video and there was precisely 1 frame where Samurai Goroh was ahead of you in that first race before the ending. I would be PISSED.
Someday Nintendo will bring this series back.
Someday… 😢
Oddly reminiscent of the Star wars pod racing game on the Nintendo Ultra 64 😊
WOO! Matt n Liam time! god this game is hard- gave up early on story mode. "the fly fly fly..."
Wipeout is actually my preferred series... HD was my first PS3 download- and i still play Omega Collection on PS5 (in flippin' VR!).
I actually finished the story. There are some that are impossible if you try them on hard or god forbid very hard. The ones that i was able to complete on very hard were the story missions that were actually the most doable and also the ones that were the most fun.
I got to Chapter 7 in Story Mode. Literally attempted about 100 times and couldn't beat it, even on Easy. FZero GX Story Mode is no joke.
Thanks for rubbing the salt in 99 wounds.
F-Zero 99 is at least really good so it's fine.
@@SeelkadoomandJokic00 Not as good as X or GX though.
20 years only to get 99 is really a deep wound.
@@lucylu3342 I recommend Aero GPX- It's basically F-zero GX.
Great stuff lad!!!
I’m glad you played this gem of a game!
Well, we got F-Zero... somethin'.
And F-Zero 99 is REALLY good. So at least we got something of F-Zero Quality.
I bought this game a few days ago
I blame this video entirely for my obsession until i finally got it
You need to see all the endings for this game
0:45
Yes, yes I did saw the recent Direct Liam. And we got what we both wanted for so long, a remake/remaster (Which is it? I have no idea honestly.) for Paper Mario Thousand Year Door. I would've loved to see your reaction to it but I'm sure that it was just as exciting as mine was when I saw it : ).
Story mode had normal, hard, and very hard. That is probably enough difficulty modes and normal could be considered easy.
The only time F-Zero GX let's you win is when the game messes itself up lol
Beating the story mode on the hardest level was the most challenging thing I’ve done in a video game!
This was hilarious! I actually agree, Climax is the best GBA F-Zero 🔥
My all time favorite racing game. Shits so hard for no reason 😂
Show me your moves!
Love the vids! Bringin' great vibes
Need more series ft. Liam pls.
IT HAPPENED BABY
If you found chapter 2 difficult, trust me, that's just scratching the surface. Other chapters make it look like a walk in the park. But that's what makes this game amazingly rewarding.
I remember beating this game when i was 16 years old.
Can't wait for parts 2 through 10. 😂
You are pumping out the content like a g$& d&$@ beast!! Hell yea 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
On rare occasions, Goroh will fling himself off the track - elemenating himself from the race.
This makes Very Hard a good deal easier.
Just have to get incredibly lucky.
This is how I got it the first couple times. Very hard is where you really start noticing the boulders
i would love to see the interaction between you guys and phantom road
GX is infamously had, never played it (only AX), but I've seen the infamous SA rant. Did you ever play SART? Tight as a drum, and eye-wateringly savage. Great tunes.
I have come from the Grim Future of F Zero 99 Battle Royale, dont get me wrong its a SORTA cool idea but like you guys said when there hasnt been a mention in 20 years about a new game in the franchise AND F Zero GX exists I just came away feeling very meh (My Lord I was hyped when you guys said there was a new one though)
The best/closest I have found is a game called Redout 2, its on most platforms, its pure racing no weapons like F Zero, lots of customization, looks incredible and sounds incredible and I cannot reccomend it enough to anyone its an amazing game that really scratches that F Zero itch (Some of the tracks take place in the mouth of a dormant Black Hole which looks as cool as it sounds)
Talking about clones what was the game you guys mentioned was coming out on Steam at the same time as the Direct? VERY Curious
F-Zero 99 is actually a fun game that hits the core of F-Zero though. Which is a death race. It might not be what we can wanted but it's good.
So a big thing that I keep seeing here is that you're not drifting. You need to press both L and R to engage the drift for tight corners.
10/10 game
I have ptsd from trying to beat the hard tunnel escape level... stupid final gate, how dare you close early
They need to just straight up port the game at this point. Some tweaks may be needed to get the controls to translate properly
GX is so good.
I think I got stuck on mission 7 back in the day
Fans: we sure would love a new f zero game.
Nintendo: how about instead, we release an old f zero game in out 99 series.
Fans: f you.
The game: *is actually pretty good.
Fans: ...f you (but for a different reason this time)
Beating the story on very hard to unlock characters was pretty much impossible for me.😭 I think I only managed to unlock two of them.
More more more 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Nintendo: So you want another F Zero game after 19 years?
Fans: Yes please oh yes
Nintendo: Well do have a surprise for you! Introducing F Zero....
Fans: YES OH MY GOD YES ITS FINALLY HAPPENING!!!!
Nintendo: 99 .. A battle royale game.
Fans: What the actual F..........
Except that it's really fun and it's free.
F-Zero 99 is a spin-off, so... technically it happened with a big asterisk.
How I beat the second level, after MANY ragequit attempts, just spam the attack at the start and kill Goro lol
ganmes for gamers rare
