I am 66 years old and I wish I leaned this 40 years ago. Never too late, though. Thank you for posting this very informative video. Well done in every aspect.
I never comment on videos... but I just had to tell you how awesome your video is! The concept of a string line seems so simple, but the devil is in the details! Thank you for sharing your technique and saving me countless hours in the years to come as I continue to build my horse farm.
Lol Ive seen nothing but seasoned men tie up jet lines/ stringlines like that and heres what drives me crazy, when i was an apprentice i was never waiting to be told because to be honest i would always enjoy working with those hard ass Dont Talk just Listen ANd always pay attention to what i do assholes in the trade . so very quickly i learned to be a quick study and ill tell you what not alot of people can do that or actually see the benefits of having a knowledgeable asshole partner.. my point is when i noticed my old partner way back then do that and do it so fast and so tight that i asked him like 10 times with in a hour to show me what he did again the asshole said i wasnt paying attention so i said well this time ill be right their next to you just as i cut the line with my blade ... hahahaha I get you but these youngsters need to want to learn those cool tricks so that we can pass them down the line but sometimes i just dont think they even care sometimes its unfortunate really
Wow, man! Great vid.. I was about to rewind 'til you said watch I'll do it again... LOL! I think most people that post "How to.." videos forget that the majority watching are DIY'ers. Thanks for keeping it simple!
Great concept but if you're on your property with no fence line at all to run it against doesn't work that way How-do-you-do it with no other fence or markings
Thank you for this video.. seems very helpful! Can I use this method to find out what stud in an uneven 1920s home sticks out the furthest? I then plan on sister stud all the other studs to create a flat even wall to accept drywall
Nice!!!! What do you do for sloping ground? Tip it or keep horizon level? Don't like wet pickets because previous owner dudes put it over run off sloping to draining manhole size intake!
so lets say...from the string...the fence is not straight...but the fence is already there....anyway...thanks...I was looking for the answer if the string can touch...and like the space board idea...I think I will use to try and check the levels of my joists for a deck I am working on thanks.
Hi Dean thanks for sharing the great video on how to use a string line ! The one question I had was on a new fence installation. I was planning to set my first post with 1 1/2 " spacer board and set my end post 30 ft away with spacer board and run my string line using the loop and tie off technique you showed us. If I set my other posts in the run off this string line wouldn't the starting post and end posts be 1 1/2" off from the posts ? Thank you
The string is your guideline, the one thing he didn’t mention in the video is after both ends are secure you use a measuring tape in the middle of the string and so on for your new fence installation. Everything essentially will be 1-1/2 off that straight guide line when you are finished running your poles.
@@GarwoodNickit actually seems like this is more of a video on how to use a string line, you wouldn't measure the middle of a fence for straightness. You would go end post to end post on the post side of the fence. Even then if you wanted to be accurate your end posts would have to be plumb.
@@brandonk1502 hey Brandon yeah that's right I am trying to put in a vinyl fence and the hurricane blew in my fence wooden one so I guess I have to start from where I think the posts are what do you think? It's a long fence so yikes want to put vinyl and it's done part of the wood

I second all these comments. Most of the instructions I've seen for string lines have made my head hurt.
Yours was the easiest by far.
Thanks
I bookmarked this video a year ago bc I always forget. I love it. And you're right: "you may think it's just string, but it's KNOT".
One of the best instruction videos i've seen. Super straight forward and clear
Crazy how something as simple as this method of tying the second end has never been shown to most youngsters. I hope they see this video.

I hate to be a grammar "not see"...but where did you learn to use punctuation?
Just what I was looking for....scoured the internet for this information and all was lacking....thank you!
I appreciate this simple and necessary lesson!
A real teacher, thanks 👍
Straight to the point and most of all very clear. Thank you! Subscribed!

Brilliant explanation and demonstration. Straight to the point. Many thanks 👍
Brilliantly explained. Clear and intelligent reasoning. Wish more videos were as clear is this. Thank you
Finally got this wrapped around my head, thanks!
THANK YOU!!! Exactly what I was looking for. You are a great teacher! :)
Exactly the tip that I needed. THANK YOU.
Hell yeah I like this guy he's good at explaining shit.
Great down to earth understandable instruction video thanks .

one of the better videos ive seen however how do you determine the line isnt higher on one end than the other especially if the ground isnt level?
When putting up a new fence and you have one post on each end, how do you make sure those first two posts are lined up?
Brilliant I didn't know the way it was done.. So I got the string and at least I can start out correct. Thanks mate
I like the Roy Orbison look man!

Amazing!
Awesome & Thank you for the tip !
great video, no pretention, thx
The best! Thankyou. :)
so how do you use it if you dot have a reference point?? so you are out in the middle of a paddock?

Nice... I just did my string line video.. Now I wish I added something ... #greatvideo
Great video, thanks dude
Great tip.

Great video!! Thanks, would you tell us the ame of the string to buy string to buy.
Thank you so much for this!!!
Great simple video thx m8
Excellent stuff.
Thanks that was very well done.
Thank you good tip.
Clean video 🧼 💯
There's seems to me to be a problem with this if you ask me. If you fence posts aren't plumb or have twisted over time what good does this do anyone?
awesome video bratha
Do you have a video on how to use a string line level for a kitchen floor or, just a floor?
Awesome video. Thanks a lot.
I realize it's pretty randomly asking but do anyone know of a good site to stream new series online?
taunt
1. to reproach in a sarcastic or insulting manner; mock.
2. to provoke by taunts; twit.
taut
1. Pulled or drawn tight; not slack.
Thank you for this 😀
Thank you!
great video thanks for sharing

Never 5x for the love of god. Hilarious man. Thanks
I understand that already. But what i want to know is how people use it to set elavations. I worry about a sagging line.
That’s why I came to this video but nope
I wouldnt trust it. But i was wondering if there are people out there that set elavations with it
yunghollow72 there has to be a way I have a tiny spirit level that hangs of a string line but doing that makes the string sag 🤷♂️

GOOD Video Tip
thank you
What if the fence is not straight can anybody please help?
Brilliant
Thx
When I’m setting a line of posts I don’t do the 1.5” space. I just plumb each post to the the line as I go.
But the video is about straightening an existing fence, not setting new fence posts

just one thing it is taut not taunt. Great vid though.
7 is a perfect number
