  • This is a remaster of an old video from 2022 that you may remember if you've been around for a while, this is (hopefully) the last Dixieland version I do

@@JohnDoe-in2gk The Confederacy's first official national flag, often called the Stars and Bars, flew from March 4, 1861, to May 1, 1863. It was designed by Prussian-American artist Nicola Marschall in Marion, Alabama, and is said to resemble the Flag of Austria, with which Marschall would have been familiar.

It’s a real shame what happened to Africa and its people in the 17th and 18th century. Neither the continent nor its diaspora has truly recovered from the slave trade (Islamic or Transatlantic).

@@HerrAndreasSkog I mean that’s a whole continent my boy lol not sure why you’re comparing a continent with a political entity. Also Africans we’re sold into slavery by other Africans(for the most part) so not sure why that point was relevant tbh but cheers 🍻

I prefer the lyrics be Tennessee Ernie Ford.
Away down South in the land of traitors
    Rattlesnakes and alligators
    Right away (right away)
    Come away (come away)
    Right away (right away)
    Come away (come away)
Where cotton's king and men are chattels
Union boys will win the battles
    Right away (right away)
    Come away (come away)
    Right away (right away)
    Come away (come away)
We'll all go down to Dixie, away, away
Each Dixie boy must understand that he must mind his Uncle Sam
    Away (away)
    Away (away)
We'll all go down to Dixie
    Away (away)
    Away (away)
We'll all go down to Dixie
I wish I was in Baltimore
    I'd make secession traitors roar
    Right away (right away)
    Come away (come away)
    Right away (right away)
    Come away (come away)
We'll put the traitors all to route
I'll bet my boots we'll whip 'em out
    Right away (right away)
    Come away (come away)
    Right away (right away)
    Come away (come away)
We'll all go down to Dixie, away, away
Each Dixie boy must understand that he must mind his Uncle Sam
    Away (away)
    Away (away)
We'll all go down to Dixie!
    Away (away)
    Away (away)
We'll all go down to Dixie
Oh, may our Stars and Stripes still wave
Forever o'er the fee and brave
    Right away (right away)
    Come away (come away)
    Right away (right away)
    Come away (come away)
And let our motto ever be
    Forever Union and for liberty
    Right away (right away)
    Come away (come away)
    Ride away (ride away)
    Come away (come away)
We'll all go down to Dixie, away, away
Each Dixie boy must understand that he must mind his Uncle Sam
    Away (away)
    Away (away)
We'll all go down to Dixie
    Away (away)
    Away (away)

It's racist associations are unfortunate. It's a great song and the Confederate battle flag is one of the most striking ever designed. I fondly remember the day when displaying it meant you were a rebel and not a slavish follower of rules. Maybe it can come back when we emerge from our current orgy of self-flagellation. Our history isn't going anywhere just because parts of it make us uncomfortable today. We Americans love chucking the baby with the bathwater; our Puritan urge remains strong, too.

Not to be that guy but just so it’s clear Dixie was never proposed as the anthem the CSA had a song that was supposed to be their anthem but it’s not a good song so most people don’t know it
