Harbor Freight's NEW Killer Winch!! (Subaru winch bumper build)

- In this video i build a custom Tube bumper from scrap metal. I work on installing the Harbor Freight Tools brand new Winch, the Badland Apex series 5500 UTV winch on my 1998 Subaru Forester. This winch is the Long drum winch which is priced at $399, there also is the short drum winch for $349. The long drum comes with 50 ft of 1/4" synthetic winch rope. I ran into some issues with my Subaru and it needs a new motor which i am still waiting for. So once i get it running again we will install the winch controller and all the wiring and head out to test it out.

I'm going to copy the style of that bumper for my 2010 Forester. I like the way that came out. I want to make a few changes, but thats the basic ticket right there. Thanks for sharing this. Great video.

Man such a bummer with them engine blowing right as you finished everything up! Hopefully that engine is in hand and going in shortly! I dig how the bumper turned out for the subi!

Trying to talk my better 3/4 into letting me trim up the bumpers on her '17 Foz. If she ever let's me pull the trigger I will definitely trim it up as high as possible and build a tube bumper/crash bar with hidden winch. Please keep the Subie videos coming, we appreciate them!

Was looking for install of the 5500 winch but this is really a bumper fabrication for a Subaru. Could have titled this video more appropriately.

I just bought the 12000 apex based off your videos and Matt's off road recovery use. The winch plate they sale bolts to a yj but is completely useless. I got tired of modifying it and ordered a proper one.
Awesome, it is definitely worth it to invest in a high quality winch plate for sure.

Would you put this winch on a TJ Wrangler? Weights about the same as the Forester. Not a rock crawler just need something for when I visite hard to get to streams for fishing and hard to get to hiking trails. I also like it's low profile size so it doesn't block to much of that iconic TJ front facia..... Thanks.

How does HF so effectively pick the pocket of all who enter?
How is the HF bauer grinder? Is it better with a flap disc or cut off wheel?
It’s been awesome so far, I haven’t used a cut off wheel yet, but the flap disc is great, lots of power.
Thinking about putting this on a Jeep Renegade, you guys think this would be powerful enough?
I believe the weight of the renegade is similar to the forester so it should be ok. I will be explaining more about that in the next video.
I am curious as to how much your lift changed your fuel mileage. I have a forester that I use to save on gas but would love to lift. Thanks I’m advance.
The did not see much change with the lift and tires, but the roof rack killed the mileage, so I took it off.
