I love your subtle sense of humor. This series should be prerequisite for anyone getting into this hobby. You deserve way more subs. Great information once again! Keep the vids coming bud!
Subs will come over time if folks are interested. I'm not very flashy-- as you can tell my sense of humor is a bit on the dry side. I see the recipe for getting lots of subs (based on what I see on channels that seem to do really wel), but as you have said in your videos, I'm not doing this to pay the bills or to compete with other channels. Its all about sharing info. I think your channel deserves more subs too, but again, you'd have to add more razzle dazzle. Worth it?
I think subs are overrated. It's more about helping to advance the hobby by teaching and providing useful information to whoever is in need, which is something you and many other channels do very well.
NickMach007 I don't give a flip about how many subs I have anymore, although I do care about each and everyone who subs me for information. I hope that makes sense. I'm not about to get on TH-cam and act like an idiot talking about absolutely nothing. I thought I made some connections with certain people on here, but it seems that a few of them have lost their way. Some people think that they have become celebrities, and it's sad to see. This is simply an extension of my hobby, to share info, and of coarse to share my aquariums. Your channel is definitely one of the best for to the point information and fantastic editing. One of my favorites for sure.
GFCIs definitely worth the $10-20. Best money you'll ever spend for your tank-- could save your life or your family's life! That and giving any guy an excuse, I mean reason to visit Homer Depot...
Excellent. Especially with a child running around, safety is super important. I have a daughter about the same age is yours. I'm always trying to stay one step ahead by thinking like a 3-year old. Some days she still outsmarts me.
Grounded is not the same as GFCI, but maybe that's not what you meant. If you really did mean that it is grounded, but not GFCI protected-- go get a GFI outlet-- I know you're handy enough to install one! ;)
Yeah, time for a major trimming-- was supposed to happen this past weekend. Oh well, looks like next weekend it is. Let me know if you want any trimmings. Weather is warming up.
Oh yeah I would love some trimmings. If I remember correctly, you said you had Ammania bonsai (rotala indica) and Staurogyne Repens. I'd be interested in those two. Thanks again for the offer. I'll be trimming my pearlweed carpet this week sometime, so if you want a bunch of that let me know.
Cool, good to know. I just ordered some boxes from USPS and I have some sheets of foam insulation already, so I should be good to go as long as it isn't too cold.
Good topic for a video. Alot of people forget or just dont think about the fact that they are plugging electrical devices in and then sticking em into a water source and it can becone very dangerous.
Thank you. Go get your GFCI today! Best money you will ever spend on your tank. And once I finish this series, I will do a tank update...it has been too long. Thanks for watching. It means a lot to me.
Thank You!!! Found this video well googling aquarium surge protector. Was getting my new tank set up when I happened to notice the surge protector had printed on the back 'not for use with aquariums'. Went to both Home depot and Menards to ask about ones that could be used with aquariums, I just got a lot of shrugged shoulders... not one person mentioned GFCI. :( On the plus side I talked to my landlord and he's going to have the maintenance guy switch out the outlet for me. :)
question, i have a GFCI shock buster, however is it safe to install the surge arestor with multiple receptacles to one GFCI shock buster? would it still work and be safe? just trying to make sure. or do i have to have each plug into an individual GFCI?
Your tank behind you looks awesome! I ran all new dedicated lines for my tanks and installed GFI on each line as they are code here anyways. This is really great info. Thanks for sharing.
Well planned, code or not. The room my tank is in is on a 20Amp circuit with a GFI dedicated to that tank-- plenty of power to spare. Thanks for watching!
Just for anyone 1 in the uk the gfci is called an RCD or RCBO great info nick thanks also anyone in the uk we operate at 230 volts consult an electrician as you need a qualification to install this equipment This is information only not a negative comment thanks again nick 👍🐟🐠
Keep up the good work man, your video's are always super informative and I always learn something. It would be nice to see a video of your tank as well, I'm loving the Ammania. Sp Bonsai you have
Thanks! Update of tank is coming after I finish this series. I have a major trimming to do this weekend, so I'll probably take some video so I can do a before and after...and as always, thanks for watching.
No Problem man, looking forward to watching the video. When the weather warms up if you're willing to sell some stems of the Ammania Sp. Bonsai I'd be more than happy to purchase them and pay for the shipping. If that's something that interests you shoot me an inbox message.
This is valuable information. What about utilizing a Battery backup unit similar to one that is used for computer equipment. They sometimes contain a surge protector. Do you know if any contain a GFCI?
I know exactly what you are talking about-- UPS (uninterrupted power supply). Unless the blackout was relatively brief, not sure how much time one of these would buy you-- unless it had a very large battery. They usually give you just enough time to power your computer or equipment down safely . I have never seen one with a GFCI since they are usually used for electronic equipment (computers, etc.) which would not be installed near water. But there may be one out there.
Time for a trip to the home depot-- unless you want to rewire an outlet just get the portable version. Best $10-20 you will ever spend on your aquarium-- check out the links in my video. You can just grab one off amazon if that's easier. But it can definitely save your life. Well worth it.

Agree. And I would count your channel among that group as well.
Thanks

Great vid man. U just gave me a reason to go to the store. I'm clearly not playing it safe at the moment lol. Thanks
GFCIs definitely worth the $10-20. Best money you'll ever spend for your tank-- could save your life or your family's life! That and giving any guy an excuse, I mean reason to visit Homer Depot...
Always nice to have such knowledgeable people in the hobby. Great vid man
Thank you. I just subscribed to your channel-- looks like some interesting videos.
awesome planted tank!! I really like those stem bunches of royals bonsai (I think that's what it is. or bacopa)
Thanks for sharing Nick. Going to look into adding them to my tanks now.
Excellent. Especially with a child running around, safety is super important. I have a daughter about the same age is yours. I'm always trying to stay one step ahead by thinking like a 3-year old. Some days she still outsmarts me.
NickMach007
Oh yes, they find stuff you didn't know you had! lol Very smart cookies too!!
Awesome info, I have ground protected power strips on my tanks.
Grounded is not the same as GFCI, but maybe that's not what you meant. If you really did mean that it is grounded, but not GFCI protected-- go get a GFI outlet-- I know you're handy enough to install one! ;)
Good stuff! Looks like the plants are growing pretty rapidly in the tank
Yeah, time for a major trimming-- was supposed to happen this past weekend. Oh well, looks like next weekend it is. Let me know if you want any trimmings. Weather is warming up.

Cool, let me trim and I'll send you a message. Remind me, what part of the country are you in?
Ok sounds good. I am in Southern Wisconsin so it's still kind of cold, but it has been warming up this week.
Cool, good to know. I just ordered some boxes from USPS and I have some sheets of foam insulation already, so I should be good to go as long as it isn't too cold.

Exactly. A lot of folks out there not running GFCIs. Hopefully this helps someone out. Thanks for watching.
I never knew about this. Great info. By the way, I think your tank deserves a close up view. Such a awesome tank.
Thank you. Go get your GFCI today! Best money you will ever spend on your tank. And once I finish this series, I will do a tank update...it has been too long. Thanks for watching. It means a lot to me.
Thanks man, and I just subbed to you as well. I look forward to checking out your vids as well.
great info on a topic rarely covered- tank looks great!
Thanks and thank you for watching!
Would it be okay to plug a surge protector into a portable gfci?

How true.. Lets hope others listen!
That's my goal. Simple, but literally life and death. Thanks for watching, again!
Great video, Nick!
Much appreciated. Thanks for watching of course.

Absolutely-- no offense taken. Thanks for adding the comment.
Hi my tank lid is made of metal and I am feeling a slight shock when I touch it. Will adding a gfci outlet and a ground probe help ?

Definitely. I have to trim this weekend-- but I promised trimmings to someone else already. Hit me up again in a few weeks. I should have more then.
Great solid information my friend! Thank you for this great series of vids bro!
Absolutely. I've been enjoying your videos for awhile. Glad to contribute back to the community.

Love it man!!!
