so based on the verses its a couple who's grown apart and who's no longer trying like they did in the beginning of the relationship hence being in a giant desert separated so far there is a great distance between them and in between them is all the things they don't do anymore. them walking to one another is them starting to try and meeting each other in the middle like you must do in a successful relationship.

It’s about how much their relationship has changed, and the distance of how far they’ve come a part (what better place to show that than a desert). Then showing them come back together to the way things used to be and the time it takes.
