08:37 Combat advantage got a massive rework. Attacking a fortified hill over a ford gives your opponents army +600% damage... so as you were only outnumbering your opponent 2:1, they still had the capability of dealing quadruple your armies total damage. Combat width also means that only a portion of the total troops can deal damage to each other per tick, mitigating numerical advantage even further.
Yeah I feel like they've buffed it too much maybe? I managed to defeat Saladin as Jerusalem with a 1/4 of his troops by just sitting on Jerusalem itself
@@fpsgod3028yeah but earlier I beat 3300 troops with 16 knights in the hills, killing 1300 of them, and that maybe feels like a bit too much. Though that’s probably more because adventurers are broken
@@graymarionTo be fair, Knights are a bit misleading, while their description talking about their squires and other retinue assisting, they are only represented as just the single Knight.
A liege gets the option to either give into a faction's ultimatum, or declare war against the faction. Directly declaring war on your liege for your own independence means that you are the aggressor and therefore have to siege down your liege's capital.
Ohhh this seems like an oversight from the devs, i also realised it when declaring independence directly costs prestige or piety when you can just create a faction and send an ultimatum immediately
@@anisamir4946 yeah i had the same experience as leith when i played belisarius in the fallen eagle mod. had to cross the sea and siege down constantinople. it really is bs how that works.

34:07 yeah CK3 independence wars are stupid. You have to siege your liege's capital for the war goal. CK2 did it right where all you had to do was defend your own land. The liege was the attacker.
havent got to that part of the video, but i can say whenever ive been defending against independence (ie, im the king against a duke) ive had to siege the dukes land to stop them gaining war score having came back to the vid after stuff i can confirm that he has to do more than the ai, i dont think ive ever really had independence wars as an attacker, unless the faction started war and declare war independence wars work differently, as he done the latter whereas the ai does the former
Dissolution War and Independence War should really change the way it treats ticking War Score, for sure. It should probably scale on size too. The bigger the top liege is, the less they get. Or at least Distance-based.
One of my biggest peeves is that if your liege tries to take a title or imprison you, and you choose war over submission, the game counts you as the aggressor rather than defender and you have to go siege his lands rather than defend your own
@@josh10722 I always wondered if that is because it's needed to create the trigger for imprisoning / revocation. It does feel weird. I guess they don't have a system for wars where neither side is technically the aggressor.
Fun tip if you wanna ramp this up further: The great conqueror mod: it predates the conqueror trait but has the same premise. It still works in 1.13 and can stack with the conqueror and scourge of the gods and synergies in an unholy way if the stars align. Buffed mongols mod: Increases the power of the mongol empire when it begins overall. Has a difficulty slider and at maximum difficulty is INSANELY op.
I'll probably delete this comment later but I just want to vent about how I always like to think of The type of Ck3 campaigns and think of them as a reality, like if some random collage students having to write a whole essay on the ghurids conquering Almost all of Europe and all of the middle east except for the unholy empire which the professor talked about last semester only for it to fall apart the second the emperor's successor takes power and also how the Irish sailed all the way to the capital to seige it down for independence, Anyways great video laith
No you are declaring independence, they have to stop you. If I stop paying my taxes, I don’t have to storm the White House, they would have to make me pay
You said that no one had ever defended their lands by invading. And I know you probably didn’t mean that but Heraclius was only able to keep the Eastern Roman Empire from falling to the Sassanids by invading Persia over and over again.
The game not telling you what the war goal is so you know exactly what controls that ticking objective score is one of the most infuriating parts of CK3.
Its alnost like the roleplaying game thats in the years of 800s to 1300s and encourages fitting into it is more fun when you actually do that instead of gameify every playthrough to get as large as unrealistically possible at those time periods
That argument about defensive liberty wars is actually super apt. That's not how defender wars should have to work, they should have to capture your capital, not the other way around.
Uhoh, guess laith didn’t check out the warfare changes. Basically combat advantage is now the most important thing when it comes to combat so you need to be very aware of the numerous things that go into calculating that and if you’re on the offensive you need to pick battles that you can actually win. Otherwise you need a massive numerical advantage and good MaA.
Mhm, Chaos my favorite. This felt like another Burgundy situation where you are just another side story in the Ghurid annals. Also, female Ghenghis? That sounds even more horrifying than the vanilla one. I mean, she appeared and tried to murder the Ghurids. And she forced a white Peace with them. Totally badass woman. Imagine telling an empire you will fight them later. Aura 💯. This was fun. ☺️

Always refreshing to be a side archetype turned treacherous antagonist to the main protagonist of the game!
I thinknif you do an independence faction you are defensive, declare independence is an attacking cassus bellies.
At the moment, I'm enjoying making my family members Dukes all over the place while I adventure around.
independence war is not a defensive war your attacking them to become independent
