No current will actually make it to his hands, but I get his fingers got a bit warm. There would definitely be burned fingers if the wire was held much longer. That said.. Mehdi's right, that capacitor is a total fake and probably houses a battery inside.
@@kittenisageek But it's a DC current coming from an electrolytic capacitor with 2 terminals + & -. Electricity usually travels along the path of least resistance right? @@jayytee8062 The voltage isn't high enough to do anything if he touches both terminals with his hands -- even if it were an actual super capacitor. We had plenty of trainees come in and say that it doesn’t work, we would grab one rod locate the gas line that we were sending a high frequency signal through, with the rod and then go and use the actual locator and see how close we were. Fun fact. Back when electricity was new, they sold little electricity catch pans. You'd put them under your electrical sockets to catch any electricity that would "leak out".
Completely legit. Though pans will not work, but at least 100 meters long wire piece will. And you must live near 100+ kW AM radio station. Some ingenious folk got free light in their garden sheds near our capital city radio station in this way for several decades. Until AM radio in my country got obsoleted and station was dismantled at end of nineties.

There is no "hive mind", as convenient of a straw man as that would be for dowsers and whatever persecution complex they suffer from. The far simpler reality is that a lot of people understand that a phenomenon only supported by anecdotal evidence, with not a single controlled study in support of it and many, many pieces of evidence against it, is at best not worth their time and at worst a blatant lie. It's equivalent to saying that smoking tobacco extends one's life because their aunt smoked every day of her life and she lived to be 90 - ignoring the 480,000+ people a year in the US alone who die from smoking-related ailments and decades of evidence to the contrary. Anecdotes. Aren't. Evidence. It's not our personal lack of ability to explain - it's that the explanation dowsers want DOES NOT EXIST. Believing things that have no explanation is not and should not ever be the default. If a rigorous explanation for dowsing arises - one that doesn't crumble under the tiniest bit of serious scrutiny, supported by well-documented, well-controlled experiments of sufficient scale - I will have no choice but to and no issue with changing my mind. Hello, Mehdi! I'd just like to mention how my *whole* family believed all this nonsense, along with pretty much most of their acquaintances and how despite my best efforts, without access to The Internet, while growing-up, I eventually started to believe I was in the wrong for thinking they are all foolish and it drove me insane. *This* , among other things led to some serious mental issues, later on in adulthood, most of which have now been resolved, thankfully. Recently learned there's a fancy word for this: "gaslighting". Just want to give you a heartfelt *thank you!* for making these videos which will help prevent similar consequences for other young people. As for TH-cam removing the Dislike button, a reminder that: 'causing harm to others with little or no personal benefit' is the modern definition of *an act of stupidity* .
respect brother
The meaning of the word is changing, it seems, but gaslighting used to mean quite intentional manipulation, not just being wrong.
@@tsm688 That is a good point! The 'feeding misinformation while denying the other party's rational thought, causing second-guessing to the point of insanity' bit is still there, however. A sort of... 'unintentional gaslighting' if you will. Keep in mind, also, that such people take the "this is for their own good" line of thinking and *intentionally* cover-up gaps in the logic. Which is easy to do with a kiddo, just like telling them Santa won't visit if they don't eat their vegetables. That is manipulation of a sorts. I am bad with words, but I will say this: you need to experience it to understand just how nasty it is. Intentional or not. And if you read-through this wall of text, get yourself a beer and have a *smashing* day!

If I put a book in your bag and convince you it was always there, and keep messing with you like that for months, with the goal of convincing you you're a forgetful twit incapable of manging their own life, that's gaslighting in one of its original meanings.

Definately fake cap. But he shouldn't get a zap if he's only holding onto one terminal of the cap. The circuit is between the supply and across the wire. Also it's not mains voltage which is ground/earth referenced.......don't know......what do you think?
No current will actually make it to his hands, but I get his fingers got a bit warm. There would definitely be burned fingers if the wire was held much longer. That said.. Mehdi's right, that capacitor is a total fake and probably houses a battery inside.
@@kittenisageek
But it's a DC current coming from an electrolytic capacitor with 2 terminals + & -.
Electricity usually travels along the path of least resistance right? He is holding the wire at the end and not in the path of current flow. So shouldn't the current travel from one terminal across the short/wire and to the other terminal completing the circuit.
Now if it were household AC ground referenced current and he was touching only the active wire while he himself was grounded then yes sure he gets zapped.
@@jayytee8062 The voltage isn't high enough to do anything if he touches both terminals with his hands -- even if it were an actual super capacitor. Super Caps are very different from most other capacitors. They generally have a voltage range from 2 to 5 volts or so. So he could lick the contacts and get a tingle on his tongue, but that's about it. With the rods thing, it does work, provided that the utility has current going through the tracer wire. I should clarify that we used one rod. Not two.
