    I don’t understand how you can ask about the “best season ever” and then compare career averages to prove why Henry has a slight edge over Suarez. It took Suarez a few months to get used to the league, but that 13/14 season was unbelievable. You’d be more surprised to hear he wasn’t involved in a goal or two in a match than if he was.
    Truly unstoppable.

      5 games banned. So he was better than everyone else playing 5 less games. Not only the numbers, he consistently scored once in a career goals.
      It was the striker skillset version of watching Messi walking through people down the wing in his prime.

    Suarez is the best in his prime he done everything, would do the dirty work by running around chasing players , scored screamers, made his team mates better. Awesome video, love stuff like this! If you ever do a GK version (Obviously I’m biased) but Nigel Martyn has definitely got to be in with a shout. 21 Clean Sheets in a season (97-98 with 24 in all competitions) while not playing for a “top” team (if the rule is still peak seasons etc). Also the Premier League record for number of Clean Sheets in the League is Cech with 24 (only 3 more than Nige) and Cech had the best defence the league has ever seen that year. Also if you add the Clean Sheets for the 3 years Martyn was playing in Div1 before the Premier League started, Martyn would now be 2nd in the PL all time Clean Sheets Table. Martyn was also voted PFA Keeper of the year 3 years running. All while not playing for a Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool etc who all had better defences and their keepers had less to do a lot of the time, so for Nige to still be comparable in stats speaks volumes to me. Yes he didn’t win anything unfortunately, I always feel that’s more of a team achievement, but in terms of ability, I always say that Nigel Martyn is up there with the greatest ever Premier League Keepers, at least Top 5 in terms of ability alone.

    39:40 Thank you for clarifying about how complete a striker Shearer was (I actually wrote something similar before seeing your Shearer comments). And it was an ankle injury which ultimately forced him into being more of a target man for much of his time at Newcastle. It's always annoying when I see people just say he offered nothing beyond goals like as if it's a crime to try to adapt your game post career threatening injury. In fact adaptability is a sign of a good all round player.
    Also that season he suffered an ACL, he had 16 goals. Next season he comes back and scores 31 league goals, which is just ridiculous. Who suffers an ACL mid-season and scores 31 next season. And then 34 and 31 the two seasons after.

Think the goal is how good were they at their best *with a large enough sample size to feel certain.* I dont think you want to have overly rigid criteria get in the way of the spirit of the debate.

Aguero would put 5 past a great team no problem. Aguero was someone you coukd rely on he was inevitable. The way his career ended for city summed his career off. He comes of the bench scores twice in 10 mins at home. He could score from every angle at any moment vs anyone. He could make goals out of no where. All opinions obviously but i think Henry, rooney are as much strikers as son and salah.
    Would have been better concept if you'd stated the best season/run of seasons for each player it would have taken career/trophy bias out of it.
    The trophy balance is nonsense if fowler in his prime was in the city team last year I'd back him to score similar to haaland and this goes for suarez/cole/shearer/wright/owen etc

    • @Young_Brumm15
      @Young_Brumm15 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Rooney was better than Suarez in his prime, imo. Suarez had 1 transcendent season at Liverpool and 1 great season at Liverpool. Rooney's prime was much longer, from his 2nd season at Man United in 05-06 to around 2013-2014, and he won much more over that period of time. Rooney's prime would've lasted longer if the injuries didn't start piling up and he wasn't required to play almost every game for United. Suarez scored more goals in a singluar season than Wayne, however; Wayne Rooney had multiple seasons with double digit goals and assists, as well as winning 5 titles at United, as their best player, by far.
      And this is coming from an unbiased source, since I'm a West Ham fan, and actively enjoy both Suarez and Rooney as footballers. So I'm not mad that you went with Suarez, but I just do not agree, respectfully🤝

    • @nathaningram3382
      @nathaningram3382 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Young_Brumm15 What is Rooney’s prime season tho? Joe literally couldn’t even name a prime time and that sums it up. It doesn’t matter how long the prime was, the question is AT THEIR PRIME who was better. Suarez scored 31 goals and got 17 assists while missing 8 games of the season, and taking not a single penalty. That is absolutely unheard of mate.
      Rooney’s best season is either 17 goals and 12 assists or 27 goals and 7 assists, and those numbers simply do not compare to Suarez’s numbers in 13/14. Add in the fact that Rooney played with teammates who were on a different PLANET than Suarez’s Liverpool teammates and you simply cannot take Rooney over him prime for prime mate.
      Don’t give me that talk of “what he won” either. Those are team trophies and what Suarez did that season should win ANY team trophies if his teammates aren’t absolutely garbage.

    • @Young_Brumm15
      @Young_Brumm15 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nathaningram3382 The reason that I harped on it so much is that Joe and James were so inconsistent when it came to talking about players' peaks and primes. When it came to Harry Kane being compared with Vardy, Joe said that Kane had a 5 year prime that could match up with many strikers, and that even though Vardy had a better singular season (winning the Prem and scoring in 13 games straight), it doesn't matter because Harry Kane did it for longer. But when it came to Aguero and Rooney, who had better primes than Suarez in the Prem, it was all about that 1 season peak and how Suarez's one season was better than either of the two players that I named.

    • @Young_Brumm15
      @Young_Brumm15 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nathaningram3382 I'm just confused on the criteria that James and Joe are going by. When I read and hear the word "prime" I think of someone's career, or at least the years that they were massively successful and put up good numbers. "Peak," which is what James and Joe meant to say, is someone's best season or best 2-3 seasons, if you catch my drift. If we are talking straight up numbers for one season, then I can't argue against you because Suarez has better numbers in the 13-14 season than Rooney and Aguero. Rooney's best season by numbers would be 11-12, where he had 27 goals and 4 assists in the Prem, but if we include the Champions League and Europa League (since they went down), it would total 32 goals and 5 assists. Aguero was in 14-15, with 26 goals 8 assists.
      If we are talking based on the true definition of what a prime is, when it goes to Aguero and Rooney hands down, no competition. However, I will be say that by going by the "prime" argument, it would be unfair to Suarez because he was only at Liverpool for 4 seasons.

      @@Young_Brumm15 Nah I get you man, and it’s especially hard when Joe uses certain criteria for some and others when his bias affects it, like with Rooney. The question of how long their prime is doesn’t really come into account, it’s just how GOOD they were in their prime. Of course Rooney’s premier league prime lasted far longer than Suarez’s, Luis was only there for a few seasons lol. However as you’ve just admitted, the numbers in Suarez’s prime are undeniable. I do get what you’re saying but when the question is who was the best at their prime I struggle to take ANYONE over Suarez thanks to that season.
