Finding these few videos of Jimmy and Arnett brought tears to my eyes. My Dad Ira Bertrand, aka Big Hearted Bert, and Jimmy were runnin' buddies for years in Houston, in fact he was my Godfather. I grew up with him around both at home and the many times we went to hear him blow, (could I tell you some stories). I have numerous pics of him in my office and will cherish these videos. Thank you so much for sharing
@mj13243 The alto player is Jimmy Ford. He played in Maynards early Birdland Dreamband. quite a player. Get the Ferguson album "Message from newport" and hear Jimmy play some outstanding solos, in particular, a track called "The Fugue"

I miss Calvin Owens. He didn’t play like this when I knew him, but I always knew he could.
first two barrs of Arnett make my hairs stand on end , the legend , and a cooking band behind him ,, so lazy laid back

Jimmy was my friend, Arnett, was John Willie Cook's friend. Too danged bad, those guys are all dead.
Great!
It's kind of a shame the promoters gave Kirt Lightsey an upright piano and had to stick him in the back with his back to the crowd.
arnett cobb is amazing. and I'm embarassed to say I didn't know who he was.
Looks like the "Subway" in Cologne....
Donald Trump stole Jimmy Ford's hair style!
A major difference, though... Jimmy Ford was for real... he blew hot... not just hot air!
