Pursuing a relationship without telling the person you're with that you're married is dishonest. Trying to keep the door open while you're trying to fix your marriage, and while the object of your affections is dating someone else, and while they're your superior at work is all kinds of messed up.

The writers already set up Derek and Meredith to be together from the start, even though Derek was married. Fact: people fallen in love with other people they are not married too all the time, that’s why divorces happen ( although there are other grounds for legal separation other than adultery ) - some people just drift apart and in the case of Addison and Derek, they were just treading water. They cared about each other sure, but, they didn’t love or were in love with each other anymore.
