    One thing to try doing - using the Keystep sequencer to program the Volca sequencer. Load it up with some noodly arps, then have hands-on fun with the Volca trying out chord progressions, recording automation, playing choose-8-from-16 with Active Step, or just having four bar loops going while you plug another synth into the Keystep.

    • @FreeBeat

      That sounds like a lot of fun, thanks for watching!

    It would be awesome if Korg would adopt the effects processor the NTS-1 has in more of its synths, including the Volca Keys. That processor is a big part of what makes the NTS-1 interesting. Crazy big sound out of a comically small box. That Keystep 37 must be quite a workhorse as well. 👍️

      They say the feedback and delay on the Volca keys is the same as the Monotron...nah mate. I still put my Monotron in line with it cuz is sounds way more lush.

    • @m1nnefr3d
      @m1nnefr3d 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      KeyStep 37: unbeatable 👍 Volca Keys delay: noisy in an unpleasant way, few options. The NTS-1's is from another planet, and even custom FX can be loaded. Feed the Volca Keys into the NTS-1's audio in and you'll get excellent results.

    The Keystep is very hard to argue against, but for budget's sake it comes with a free copy of Ableton Lite that you can put a free synth VST into. My recommended budget synth+keyboard combo would be more like that, "a keystep and the computer you already have".

    • @GerenM63
      @GerenM63 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s great for those who want to do computer music. And, it also allows people to experiment with different kinds of synthesis cheaply. However, a lot of people specifically /don’t/ want to use computers for music or at least for sound generation, and for them, something like the Volca Keys is an ideal starting point.

      @@kinetic-cybernetic yes. Literally. Say it straight or say it mockingly or say it upside down, it's true and any kind of "budget" constraint should acknowledge that.

    I know that you’ve struggled with the Model D, but if it helps any, much you learn on that Volca can apply to the Model D. The biggest difference is that you’re not going to get any chords out of the Model D, except by detuning the oscillators to the intervals that you would get by setting the chord mode on Keystep...

    For budget analogue poly, I think nymphes and uno synth pro desktop is better choose.
    Vkeys only saw mode is paraphonic, the ring mode is also the mono pulse wave, no way to turn off the ring effect.
    A trade off between pickup and play box or deeper sound design.

    I am not using my key step enough! Do you know if strum can also apply to manual played chords ( so that you don’t have to set the chord type but just press multiple keys)?

    • @skullhqx
      @skullhqx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just tested this for you. This isn’t possible. Strumming only works in Chord mode and with a minimum of two notes. User chords of one note are not helping here because of that minimum of two notes. I love the Keystep 37, however the chord functions are only really useful for playing in all keys (C through B) of the major an minor (and Blues) scales. When setting up a ‘User scale’ you can’t define a root note due to how Arturia has created the interface. Maybe they will fix that in a firmware (mine is 1.1.3 and they are currently on 1.1.6, but it doesn’t seem they have changed this). Hope this helps, groetjes! :)

    • @m1nnefr3d
      @m1nnefr3d 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just happened to try sync'ing my PO-12 from my KeyStep 37 and feed the Volca Keys' headphone out into the PO-12's audio in using an 1/8th-inch splitter cable. But I wasn't quite sure which connector goes where (Rrrring is for Rrrred, Rrrright?) and which sync setting to dial in on the PO-12 to get sound and sync into it the right way 🙄 When it's done the right way, it's even more fun to sequence the Volca Keys from the KeyStep 37. But maybe I shouldn't recommend an even less budget-friendly setup? 😒

    • @FreeBeat
      @FreeBeat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It definitely could be, but for the price the Volca Keys really outshines all of the Pocket Operators synth wise. Hard to beat that true analog sound haha. Thanks for watching!
