Goodbye Step-up Rings! - REVORING - the Variable Step Ring Adapter

  • REVORING is a new variable step ring filter adapter from H&Y. It features an innovative mechanism that eliminates the need for multiple filters or step-up rings. The adapter includes blades that form a retractable diaphragm and can, therefore, be mounted on various thread diameters - from 37 to 95mm. REVORING is available either as a standalone ring or in a set with VND and Circular Polarizer set in a Kickstarter campaign now.

    I was just lamenting earlier today how frustrating it is trying to find high quality stepping rings, and having to get precise size-to-size pieces, so this is a very welcome invention and video. Thank you to all involved :)

    Great idea! Unfortunately I'm using only Sigma primes (24, 50, and 85) and since the 24 and 50 are 77mm and the 85mm is 86mm, I'd need a 77mm-86mm. So I guess I'll stick with my standard step-up rings for now!

    I'm impressed by the 1-10 stops claim. I'm worried by the green coating colour choice for flares. I'm curious why adjusting the ND ring has no lever and looks paper thin? Keeping an eye on this. Thanks so much for the video info.

    I'll stick with my step down rings. Most of my lenses are 77mm anyway. Just need a 77-67 and 77-62. I think you're better to standardise to one size. 82mm or 77mm.

    • @STONJAUS_FILMS
      @STONJAUS_FILMS ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you used it?, i thought the same but its really handy when switching lenses, even if they are the same size this filter is way faster to attach - detach.
      For those who already own some step up rings and variable ND might not make sense moneywise, but for those buying their first is a no brainer, i mean you cant go wrong... when i was starting i bought a small ND and polarizer and i cant really use them now with my new set of cine lenses... plus they dont always come with the same mm size.

    Photo colleagues, I want to share my experience of non existing support from H&Y as well as bad design.
    1. The Lock mechanism is total trash and will not stay firmly, it not secure and will suddenly fall , like it happened to me, and I ensured it's very firm when attached. Did attach by instructions. The filter actually never "locks". It's just get tightened and then again loosens and rotates again, that's how it's built.
    2. The X shape pattern on ND is very visible and not usable after ND5-7.

    3. There are no markings on ND after ND 5 to 10 ND , so you have to guess.
    4. There is grainy pattern when using ND/CPL, compared to my other filters I own(Haida, Tiffen, Hoya). It seems not as clean on the sky.
    5. The support is non existent. Will not honor warranty. Will accuse you and say that it's your human error (that's what they told to me)
    The pins to control ND and CPL where supposed to be touched, to control ND and CPL, but every slight touch can lock out and drop the filter . No secure filter system at all. The company did not honor the warranty and didn't want to fix the filter within the first month of use. Shame company. I was securing and fitting to lens strictly by instructions. Will not buy again from H&Y

    Who carries rings? just put step up/down rings on each lenses and put a cap.

    • @CineD
      @CineD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you always are the only one working with those lenses and if there is only one type of filter you use, sure you can do that. But it's not ideal when using different kinds of filters like NDs / Polas or IR Cut filters and changing between them.

  • @sa.t.2507
    @sa.t.2507 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Man this is so pointless! Just buy steprings for 1 dollar for each of your lens size to the same size and there you go, always the same size on all lenses.

    • @CineD
      @CineD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The entire point of this is not having to think about bringing all those rings all the time. I've been screwed often enough by forgetting the correct step-up ring when using a lens I rarely use with a very small diameter, for example.

    • @sa.t.2507
      @sa.t.2507 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CineD What I am saying is that you permanently screw on a stepring on each lens so that they have the same size. Then you just buy cheap lenscaps for the new size on the steprings.
      Also this gives much more protection on the front element of the lens.
