    What's your favourite Jean-Luc Godard movie and why?

    • @jimmorrison2692
      @jimmorrison2692 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "Les Mepris" because it's better than the others. Godard isn't as good as Vittorio De Sica, Visconti, Bresson, Cassavetes, or Bergman, though.. I could think of another two dozen better directors.

      I generally don't enjoy Godard's films, but I thought Contempt and Pierrot le fou were alright. Alphaville had some interesting concepts, but due to my misophonia I had to mute the film as the voice of the computer was driving me insane. I have yet to watch Breathless.

      Pierrot le fou. Something about the whole package for me works better than other Godard films, but they're all brilliant.

      Anyone can make a movie. Not everyone can make a good movie. Godard made some famous films. The rest of his films are self-indulgent garbage, including the new ones

      1. Pretty much "anyone" can do "anything." Saying that anyone can make a movie is simply not worth saying.
      2. Godard is definitely not "everyone," as he has made at least a couple good films during his career.
      3. The way in which you say that he "made some famous films" makes it sound like you think his film are only popular and not quality cinema, which is foolish.
      4. "Self-indulgent" is not an inherently negative quality for a film or filmmaker to posses.
      5. Honestly, I'm not even sure what you mean by "self-indulgent." It is too vague a criticism to carry any real value in itself, without you explaining further why the supposed "self-indulgence" is indeed bad.

      @@waynej2608 All of what you say is fine, but Godard was a real jerk to Agnes Varda not too long ago. She went to his house and he wouldn’t come to the door. He had instead left an insulting note written on the glass that so upset her. All captured on video and on TH-cam of course. I appreciate what he did for us with film and enjoyed that he had Dick a bit off kilter in these interviews. But he made Agnes Varda cry and that upset me. RIP to both of them. Maybe she now gets to have that conversation he denied her then. Isn’t it pretty to think so?
