Such a significant contribution. My husband is a thoracic surgeon with a stage 4 cancer at the esophageal gastric junction - also having worked with oncology all his life - being treated by his own team. Yes- uniquely placed to make a valuable impact. It’s a very different experience from the other side.
NBC Bay Area should do a 60-minute documentary on him, his research, and his disease. Then do a 20-minute follow up story about him every 6 months or so.
This doctor's story reminds of Dr. Paul Kalanithi who wrote his memoir, When Breath Becomes Air. I wish Dr. Lin a long life so he can tell more stories.
I said this exact same thing to my primary about Bay area(UCSF and Stanford) study on never smoker Asian lung cancer study. My primary understood my concerns. She found a way(cooking for past more than 30 years with gas stoves and Thyroid cancer survivor) for insurance to cover low dose CT scan. Luckily, I was ok for now. And, I live in Southern California. Why didn’t Dr. Lin have the scan done before now? Such a shame. I hope with all the new Biological agents, targeted therapies and Cart T therapy advancements, he will be here to serve his patients for many more years to come!
This just shows how doctors are almost like another species. Doctors are strong, because they are used to sacrifice. My sister's a doctor. I've seen it. This is really a selfless act, among many I'm sure, but full of courage and human spirit.
Praying that Dr. Lin will be spared the long-term effects of this disease for as long as possible, that he would continue to teach and inspire through his example. In Jesus' Name- Amen.
a very dear friend of mine has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer early this year (March) - never smoked, ate healthy, lived healthy - hardcore cyclist. devastating
@@liencali3018The rise in lung cancer rates in non smokers can be caused by high exposure (e.g. living with a smoker, friends with a smoker), living an area with high level of air pollutants(e.g. San Francisco) etc. Unfortunately, second hand smoke is more toxic for non smokers.
there is research indicating that cancer is a metabolic versus genetic disease. In Dr. Lin's case it seems less applicable. He is young, and maintain a healthy life style. Yet he was diagnosed late stage. I am curious how and when the diagnosis came about and if he "ignored" early warning signs.
I so wanna know what is causing non-smoking lung cancer. It’s such a scary disease because even the 3-year survival is extremely low and young women in their 30’s and 40’s are getting them.
interesting story. i'm 49 asian and living with my dad who is smoker and i was second hand smoker for first 17 years of my life and they should study why some people don't get lung cancer who is non smoker. just curious.
Gotta look into other things to like gas stations, cooking, vaccines, radiation exposure, xrays, cellphones, etc. not just smoking or second-hand smoking.

Is there a chance that they look into the role covid vaccines had played as it seems cancer is everywhere. My sister had a total mastectomy last year and thank God, she is done with 6 chemo sessions and is doing well now! My other sister had cutaneous metastisis and is awaiting results from a pathologist and for body scanning. Both of my sisters are health conscious so not sure what could have triggered CA. Praying for the Lord to completely heal my sisters and for those involved in the medical field to really make an honest review of the covid vaccines. I'm not vaccinated and I never had covid and I am doing well.
Lung cancers in non-smokers have been around the same 1 in 5 statistic since way before the Covid epidemic. Your sisters' common denominator is YOU, so the question to really ask is that could YOU be causing their cancer? Could you with your negative conspiracy veering mindset triggers their otherwise dormant cancer gene? Perhaps you have been offering them food laced with cancer causing substance under the guise of caring and sharing. Perhaps you are a closeted smoker and the second hand miasma (which is more deadly) is causing people around you to drop like flies. I too am praying, praying for your sisters and also praying for the likes of you to see the hypocrisy that you clothe yourself in accepting that your sisters are still alive thanks to modern medicine whilst denouncing the very vaccines that save billions more. God helps those who help themselves. So go help yourself to real medical facts, NOT conspiracy theories, NOT unverifiable personal anecdotes that serve no real purpose other than to bring chaos and besmear the good names of medical researchers and physicians alike. YOU are the detractor, not the helper.
I'm confused. Somebody help me out here when you have stage 4 cancer. Usually you're on your way out here. He talks like he doesn't even have it.I'm a little confused
Stage 4 simply means the cancer has spread from the lung to other organs, bones etc. It doesn't indicate how 'sick' you feel. That is why it is so easy to get to stage 4 without realizing it. With specific mutations of lung cancer, there are modern medicines you can take to stabilize or even shrink the tumors and sometimes make them disappear completely. These medicines work by suppressing the cancer's ability to multiply. However, over time (as in years), the medicine cannot overcome the cancer's resistance mechanism so they can stop working and the cancer can return or start growing again. Therefore, there is much ongoing research to determine how to overcome this resistance mechanism.
It’s not the meat! It’s the ultra-processed food and carbs! Sugar feeds cancer. Carbs are sugar and the only macronutrient not needed from an external source, since the body makes its own glucose for what the body needs. Stop spreading the B.S. we’ve been following for decades and only become fatter and sicker! Check out Dr. Seyfried.
Actually grass fed beef may be the only thing that is healthy left in America. The food industry feeds the heath industry feeds the drug industry. They all used to be the cigarette industry. Disease makes money for the rich evil corporations.

Highly likely from C-vac.
