When I watch you work in your cottages I always smile and think that probably when these cottages were new the Napoleonic wars were going on and all the changes that were taking place. Great job Sean
I love to hear you explaining every step of what and why you do things Sean it's so interesting. Lovely to hear how you learned a lot of your skills from your dad too.
I really like the results of the stone in the chimney it looks great and certainly adds flavor and character and age to those stones you wouldn't want them to look brand new. Just thinking of all the people that sat by that fire and relaxed after their long hard day and their thoughts and their plans for the future. I love history and I collect artifacts of the napoleonic period it is awesome to think that those cottages were there during that period.........
The fireplace is looking great, Sean! Well done. It seems you manage to get a lot of projects done despite what the weather challenges you with. Looking forward to receiving my 2024 Sean's World Calendar!
You are doing a lovely job Sean. What is really good, you have breakfast and then God waters your lawn, for free! Much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖
The fireplace is perfect now. I wouldn't clean it anymore. The age of the stones needs to be apparent with 400 years of use. There is such a variety of stone shapes in the fireplace that it keeps your eyes moving, taking in the aged rustic beauty of the fireplace. To imagine the men 400 years ago creating the fireplace is awesome. Your paved block pathway is so clean, precise, and so inviting. The rain is good for water storage and farming. Hello from Yakima, Washington, U.S.A.
As for the soot, especially on the lower stones in the fireplace, I'm only guessing, but I can imagine that when a fire was burning, the surface of the stones would expand ever so slightly, unintelligible for our eyes, and that soot would get into miniscule fissures in the surface, only to be locked in when the stones contracted when they cooled down, making it almost impossible to get it all out. But as you so often say, that's part of the history of the place. ☺
I think it will take a little bit of time to clean off as there would be layer upon layer of soot to remove from those beautiful stones. The pavers at the front of the cottages look great, makes such a difference to the buildings.
Hi Sean watching you mix the cement the circle reminded me of my dad mixing cement when I was a kid I had forgotten sweet memories of helping and watching my dad we where always doing something building or cementing outside etc thank you for being you Sean ❤😊
The Fireplace looks good. I'd stop there and re-point the stones. I also like your little side walk. Hopefully the rain doesn't wash anything away! LOL Thanks for sharing, Sean. 👍
You're gonna need a nap between running inside when it rains and outside when the wind's blowing... YIKES!!! Every little bit is a huge step I think, sure do think that fireplace is gonna be a showpiece for the room in the cottage.
What a pleasant surprise on the fireplace 😮 it looks a thousand times better. Great job along with great patience. Here in the USA, state of Michigan, we’ve lost most of our leaves already. Now it’s a drab looking Fall, waiting for snow now. It’s still so green in France. Understandably so with all the rain you get. Lol wow
Now that any nasty grunge has been thoroughly removed from the sooty fireplace stones, leaving some discolouration is fine. It adds character and reflects the age of the fireplace. As you say, it smells fresh, and is definitely disinfected after all that scrubbing!
Hi Sean, it’s starting to look good, love your sense of humour…bet Sam does too. Jet washer did a good job on hearth stones. Lots of tar on those bricks…I think your persistence will do the job. You never give up…a great example to people who watch your channel. Cheers Trish NZ
You could try a truck wash, I wash all sorts of things with . I burn pine in my outdoor heater and the truck wash removes the resin and soot. Looks great and rustic 🐨🥰
Wow....the fireplace is looking amazing Sean....having some soot on there just gives it character. Well done! The path is really looking good too....almost done and has improved the all over look so much. Smashing!!
Just received your Sean's World Calendar. Lovely images, sturdy paper pages (card stock quality) I'm very happy with it and proud to display this for the family all year. Keep up the great work Sean and family ❤ Happy New Year to you and yours
Clever way of mixing cement outside. The pavers out there along with brick accent looks good. The fireplace is coming clean. Now where are the kittens?
Love the cheeky plug of your calendar ❤❤ Fireplace is looking so much cleaner, don’t take away too much history, don’t want it to look new….love the stories it tells.
busy busy busy...and it is looking so good! watching you do the paving stones makes me want to go out and straighten all of mine around my patio...but that is a lot of work.🤣
The fireplace of my youth was not as old as yours but a paste of bicarbonate of soda, left on for 20-30 minutes then rinsed off, brought the pink granite up all sparkly. Loved the transformation my hard work achieved. Can relate to your efforts.
I think the fireplace stones look great . . .you really did an amazing job ! Like you said, the fireplace has been used for over a 100 + years. It's going to look awesome in the completed cottage !! Congrats !!
You have really done a terrific job on the stonework/brick/plants and pavers. It really makes a big difference to the fronts of the cottages..Well done !
Sean: love your work! You're a regular workhorse! Your attention to detail is amazing. While I know you can't really do this after every video, it would be nice to end a couple of videos a week with those adorable kittens frolicking around the house. I don't need updates so much as just a few minutes watching them scamper about, getting into mischief, as kittens are prone to do. Thanks on advance.
I'm sure you can get a little closer with the pressure washer? If not it will look rustic in the end anyway, it will be lovely with the light walls etc,
I agree. The stains give it character. I was thinking though. When my pans get burned. I use salt and it works magically on cleaning them. Not sure if its a thing. Lol.
I can recommend Smart Seal Pro Drive way cleaner from B&Q. I used it on granite paving, stained with tar, diesel, and burn marks from a firepit. It was a last resort and worked wonders, especially on the tar and burning. 🤞👍
Got to remember what that soot is made of . Burnt wood thick layer then burnt on again ,tree sap is a bugger. It's looking hell of a lot better . Well done
Sean here in the US you can buy an acid that takes all that off and doesn't hurt the stone. I have used it have too have someone holding water on it as you use it. Or you could try sand blasting it.
Sean, the fireplace is looking really good. The wire sanding brush and pressure washer are a great combo. Nice progress on the paving stones. It's all coming together. Great progress every day. Cheers
Sean! Do you ever wonder what it must have been like to live in such a cottage when it was built, with no electricity, water,or central heating? Can you imagine the perhaps frightening experience they would have if plopped into our world? Oh, and I like the look of the fireplace stones.
I’ve seen chimney sweepers use chains to clean chimneys just a chain on the end of say a drill and they wack the chains around going up and down maybe something like that or even hiring a chimney sweeper to clean up the chimney to be safe to use. Seems previous owner really used it a lot.
All that hard work. Your place is looking so nice and your projects are enjoyable to watch. Keep going. I watch all the adverts that pop up so I can support you.
You know Sean, keep the soot on the back of fireplace, gives it character, reflecting it's 300 year history. 😊❤
I don't see anything wrong with the stained stones.i love that look.its authentic
Fireplace looks wonderful compared to where you started. Authenticity is what you do - be proud of it. No need to apologize. Have a great day, Sean!
The fireplace has charm, the story each stone could tell. Enjoy each part of the old buildings. Thanks for sharing
Heartwarming to hear you talk about your dad and learning the trade from him. You are a hardworking man.
Wherever he is, he's proud of you💕
I think the fireplace is fine now, great job !
Great cleanup on the fireplace. Love how uniform the pathway/ seating area is 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Exciting watching a master at work

You mix the cement so well, you can help Sam in the kitchen with her dough. 😉
I was thinking the same 😅 reminds me of a pasta making class I went to 😃😂😂
Have you past videos of him cooking? Sean is an expert at cooking as well. Hope he does a few more cooking videos in our future.
Looks authentic...as you said. I like it.
Hello Karen
The fireplace is looking good now❤
Hello nelle

That persistent thunder just didn't give up did it?! You got done what you intended to get done. Well done Sean.
I’m amazed at how clean the stones turned out after all your hard work. Impressive job on your part.
That is amazing and when it dries it will look way brighter and it would be a shame to hide the history which yes has great charm.
Hello Karen
An amazing job on the stone it shows the authenticity of its use in bygone eras. Love the look.
Looking good Sean definitely come up better.
I love the authenticity of the fireplace.
I love the character of that fireplace! The front is looking lovely.
Hello marzewski
I like the way the steps look with the rocks. Really goes with the times the cottage was built . Very nice.❤
Great fireplace work Sean. The black stones look so much better. Elbow work for the win 🥇
You're doing a good job of working with weather changes. 👍👍👍

I think the fireplace looks great - very authentic!
Big improvement on the fireplace!
Brought a little tear to the eye, watching you make the cement. That’s how my dad made it as well, he used to let me help mix it like a cake 🥰
That's nice ☺️

Love your paving method theyre going nowhere fast and i wouldn't have thought about drainage in-between either ...
Feel a big job breaking out now !
PG Tips Progress I like it it’s coming together onwards and upwards 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍🇬🇧

Sean its looks great; never thought it would get that clean amazing.
Hi Sean watching you mix the cement the circle reminded me of my dad mixing cement when I was a kid I had forgotten sweet memories of helping and watching my dad we where always doing something building or cementing outside etc thank you for being you Sean ❤😊

Hello Amy
The fireplace looks very good, Sean!! A tremendous difference!!
Now that any nasty grunge has been thoroughly removed from the sooty fireplace stones, leaving some discolouration is fine. It adds character and reflects the age of the fireplace. As you say, it smells fresh, and is definitely disinfected after all that scrubbing!
Sean, the fireplace and stone walkway look great.
Hi Sean, it’s starting to look good, love your sense of humour…bet Sam does too. Jet washer did a good job on hearth stones. Lots of tar on those bricks…I think your persistence will do the job. You never give up…a great example to people who watch your channel. Cheers Trish NZ
Looking better and better every day Sean! Good job!
You could try a truck wash, I wash all sorts of things with . I burn pine in my outdoor heater and the truck wash removes the resin and soot. Looks great and rustic 🐨🥰

I love your blue pail with cows on it. Buquet de moo.
I wouldn’t fret too much about the fireplace
Love the cheeky plug of your calendar ❤❤
Fireplace is looking so much cleaner, don’t take away too much history, don’t want it to look new….love the stories it tells.
I love the fireplace as is. It shows it’s age, which is authentic, like me 😂😂😂
Brilliant, xx
busy busy busy...and it is looking so good! watching you do the paving stones makes me want to go out and straighten all of mine around my patio...but that is a lot of work.🤣
Well done Sean
Try it one more time Sean, with the soap and vinegar and the pressure washer,I think it becomes more cleaner.
The fireplace looks amazing and will only get better! Can help thinking a better pressure washer would make short work of it
It will be so cozy i think.
The fireplace of my youth was not as old as yours but a paste of bicarbonate of soda, left on for 20-30 minutes then rinsed off, brought the pink granite up all sparkly. Loved the transformation my hard work achieved. Can relate to your efforts.
You always do good work
Enjoyed your saucy plug 😂😂😂😂
Looks great! You have gotten a lot of work done in the past couple of months - kudos for all well done!
Great job ❤❤
LOOKING BETTER! Have you tried mixing baking soda with vinegar and some water. Works wonders😊❤
I like the old colour on the stone. It shows character and if you’ve got the deposits off then it will look good.
Fireplace is beautiful! Big change! Brick and stone work look great! Thank you very much for making and sharing this lovely video!😊
Fireplace looks so much better!! Almost totally clean.. thats crazy good work❤

It's just to clean, so it don't stink
Imagine seeing the change right on video…breathtaking work….talk about character…..leave some of it….on

What if you used oven cleaner? Here in the states we have Easy Off brand with no fumes. Try it!❤
Hello Kimberly
Sean here in the US you can buy an acid that takes all that off and doesn't hurt the stone. I have used it have too have someone holding water on it as you use it. Or you could try sand blasting it.
Hello Pamela
Sean, the fireplace is looking really good. The wire sanding brush and pressure washer are a great combo.
Nice progress on the paving stones.
It's all coming together. Great progress every day.

The fire place has come up a lot cleaner, well done 👏🏻👏🏻

Yes
I agree with some of the pther comments about the fireplace, that's charm and character, the center and soul of the cottage. 😊😊
I’ve seen chimney sweepers use chains to clean chimneys just a chain on the end of say a drill and they wack the chains around going up and down maybe something like that or even hiring a chimney sweeper to clean up the chimney to be safe to use. Seems previous owner really used it a lot.
