      The yo-yo was the first choice of the Spartans in the phalanx formations.
      The yo-yo was subsequent banned by international law.
      Rule one of the yo-yo ban: Never speak of the yo-yo ban.
      Even Japan signed the ban. But, they secretly issued them to the ninja. That’s what made the ninja so deadly. To hide their use of the yo-yo, ninja would plant shurikens stuck in the bodies were the yo-yo struck. That is why shurikens are now banned in some countries. They need to know if yo-yos are being used.
      The more you know.
      As a side note, a blow gun is what fired the magic “bullet” that killed Kennedy. That’s the real reason Canada banned blow guns.

    How to make an illegal assault weapon - step 1: take a drinking straw step 2: put in a buckwheat grain

    • @JETWTF
      @JETWTF 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Better to use pins for sewing, tape, and yarn plus 3 straws. Cut a short slit in two of the straws so they can go over the end of another without crimping the straw then tape them together. Now for the pins, yarn, and tape you cut a 1 to 1.5 bit of yarn and fold it in half then insert the pin in the fold and roll the fold between your fingers to make it taper down then use the tape to secure to the pin with the fat end the same diameter as the straw. Last get out a dart board and have fun trying to get a bullseye. Yeah used to do that as a kid.

      @@Pepperoniman776 I have never heard of a Canadian Native of any tribe using a blowgun, unless it was metal and the gasses wear caused by a small explosion that was set off by a primer. Seriously though, there are a lot of exemptions for natives anyways, they don't have to follow our (that is white people) hunting laws and can fish using projectiles. This is how we try to make up stealing all their shit, they get to fish more, I think you have to live on a reservation to qualify or something, which is a horrible den of inequity (in the literal, not comedic sense, boil the water first).
      So Cherokee seem to be the most northern tribe that use blowguns, they are actually in California, Oklahoma and the Carolinas, so southern US. Make it out of river cane, they have a bunch on it actually, fairly cool. There are some tribes that use them in "SE Asia", but I can't find anything more specific. That region blends a bit with Oceania, Australia is on the wrong end though.

      Most weapon laws are mostly written for the poor and indigenous minorities. If they have a specific or affordable way to have a weapon it’s most likely illegal only because it can be used against the powers that be. They’re scared. Law driven by fear.

      1) Blowguns were first designed for small game hunting. they were loaded with pebbles or clay balls.
      2) Darts were introduced later with poison for hunting large game or assassinations.
      3) the main factor is range. a dart, pebble, etc. can fly 40+ meters, while arm thrown darts sail 20-30 meters.

      +rubbers3 I wouldn't be surprised if there's still a box of projectiles stored at the attic from my childhood days at my parents' home. We used to make them out of a page of tv guide/whatever else was printed and no longer needed, cut 3 long strips out of them roll it up and glue the tip to gether so its a long pointy thing and then cut the back off at roughly the diameter of electrical tubing.
      Kinda funny thinking how it's probably still up there in a box now that I'm over 30 years old but really who wants to clean up the shit that is stored at an attic? Too much work easier to keep piling up the boxes until its full and preferably never ever look at them again unless you really need something that you know is up there "somewhere".
      Oh and for short range during our experiments we discovered if you get the right type of nails and get them glued stuck into the tip that works pretty well too! Don't make them too heavy though they won't fly well anymore. Also don't mix those up with the "safe for shooting at other people as long as they are wearing eye protection" piles because they will hurt :D

    • @rubbers3
      @rubbers3 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @tokeeptrackofrandomsubs5899
      @tokeeptrackofrandomsubs5899 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      rubbers3 Saliva works as well and will make the projectiles I mentioned above stay in shape, at least for a few shots but they won't survive being stored for a few days well.
      It was convenient for us to have a few boxes of ammo ready to use at a later time and long term it does save a bit of time using your dads paper cutting machine to quickly turn a tv guide or other similarly a4 shaped piece of paper into strips then efficiently making them into projectiles and when a good pile has been made cut them off.
      But your method is familiar to me as well, I think we started with that at some point until these projectiles proved to be more consistent especially for longer distances. I vaguely recall having made contraptions as well with multiple electrical tubing (so that you're not limited to one shot!) taped to a thing with wooden handles all nicely filed/sanded to hand ergonimics.
      That may actually have been what motivated me at least to learn the basics of using woodworking tools. Saw the right length of planks off, attach handles with nails, do most of the shaping with various files (flat, round, triangular depending on what is needed) and then finally use some sandpaper that was always around somewhere.
      Can't say my skills have gotten far from what I picked up in those early days but I know enough about the basics to make something that isn't pretty out of wood but strong enough and functional.

      I doubt that it was full-auto. Most M-16s you see in the US are only semi-auto since full-auto weapons are heavily regulated at the federal level. In other words, same method of operation as those M-1 Garands that were carried during WWII. The reason they are so popular in the US is because they are practically as heavy as a nerf gun and have only slightly more recoil, making them great guns for novice shooters. Keyword: "Novice". There's also the fact that full-auto weapons are harder to control so I doubt they would be the only thing allowed to under-21 buyers.

    This reminds me of the time I was in high school and one of my friends had an art project and brought a piece of PVC piping to school so she could make the rest in class, cuz she couldn't do it at home (For valid reasons). During lunch break, she, another friend and I were out in the "Shady" part of the campus, where it was just us 3, goofing around, being 14-15 year old idiots. We were kinda playing around with the PVC a bit, acting as if it was a sword. It wasn't sharpened in any way. It was a hollow plastic tube and it wasn't even that sturdy, it was covered in duct tape so it was kinda softened too. A security guard came up with their golf cart (Yes they have their own vehicles lol) and started telling us to stop messing around, and said to the girl something like "Are you intending to use that pipe as a weapon?" She obviously said no, it was for an art project, but he didn't believe her and took her into the principal's office. The art teacher had to be called in and had to verify to the security guard it in fact was for a project. Something as simple as a plastic tube can be mistaken for a weapon lol... I can probably identify 100 things in my room right here that can be used to kill or injure but are not intended as weapons.

    • @LuisAldamiz
      @LuisAldamiz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Availability and familiarity of weapons can indeed facilitate murder, especially if "passional" (i.e. not thought twice). Some of the highest murder rates happen among hunter-gatherers, because well, they have weapons at hand, are used to kill (at least animals) and have no law enforcement beyond personal or collective revenge. And that in spite of their collectivistic and peacenik high ideals.
      Said that I'm still in favor of controlled right to have weapons at home and even bear them (that part is a bit more tricky) because I'm persuaded it's the ultimate barrier against tyranny. That won't prevent people to misusing them though but it's a con I'm willing to live with for the sake of freedom.

      I agree that illegalizing things is not really a solution. If i want to hurt (or even kill) someone, i don´t require weapons to do so, i served in military (the little Austria has...) and know how to use my head for killing. Means i can think of ways to injure or kill with things that are not weapons, even my own hands.
      But at the same time, limiting the usage of certain things to spezialized persons with a certain schooling/diploma/training makes perfectly sense.

    I only discovered this channel a few days ago, but it has become one of my favourites. Skall really comes off as reasonable, amusing, friendly, and pretty well informed and knowledgeable.
    I'm not much of a weapons collector (I've only got a Hanwei Katana which I bought on a whim years ago and didn't know what the heck I was doing with it, for shame), and I'm for gun regulation and the like. But I agree that responsible collectors and even just the average not-insane casuals should not be restricted on the basis of 'because reasons'. If someone screws up and hurts themselves, that's on them. If I managed to chop my own arm off somehow, I wouldn't blame the government by saying "But why didn't you save me from myself?!?!"
    I actually did look into blow guns some years ago, only to find out they were illegal in Canada (which is where I live as well). I'm not some nut seeking to torture squirrels, cats, or dogs. I just wanted something fun to play with when I was bored. But nope, my impromptu parade was rained on. It's not the first time I've been disappointed. I was also curious about switchblades at one point.
    "Oh hi officer in my yard, I'm just minding my business, blowing some darts into a wooden/cardboard target, what are you up to?"
    "Ruining your day"
    "But why?!?"
    "You own a pipe and some pointy bits of metal."
    "Ooooook then." *glances at his sword* "What about that?"
    "That's A-OK!"
    "Riiiiiiiight."
    Banning slingshots would make more sense (but would still be ridiculous), and I remember playing with one from time to time when I was a lad. I got it from Canadian Tire, as i recall.
    BTW: I recall that you were not terrible impressed with your Mosin-Nagant. I'm not much of a gun guy, but if I ever got one, it would probably be one of those. Relatively cheap because they were mass produced to the point of a large surplus, historical significance (more than one well known sharpshooter used one), etc. I'd get one with a scope (one that hadn't been 'adjusted' like some of the old ones had been, or rather had been fixed. I think it was because they were given to inexperienced soldiers and the adjustment was intended to improve the chance of hitting center mass when they aimed at their target's head?). I vaguely recall seeing one with a scope that was going for about $900 Canadian? Or $1200? Something around there.

    Canada sound similar to Australia. I bought some powder designed to help people lose weight or something. It's something that is usually in vitamins anyway. But they didn't label it well enough so I got a letter from customs "we have your white powder please prove what it is because we think its drugs but we can't figure it out, show us all correspondence with the seller" etc etc. I'm just like... I really can't be bothered, it was like $15 and I was saving $5 buying it from overseas. The time involved is not worth the money so I just ignored them. You are exactly right, it is guilty until proven innocent. They are basically admitting their incompetence with a stand of "we can't tell what a drug is so we're stopping everything that looks like drugs to the naked eye". Which is quite disturbing when you think about it, because if that's their stance it's no wonder millions of dollars of drugs get smuggled into the country. It honestly sounds like a piece of piss.

    • @kaelhate1791
      @kaelhate1791 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The saying "innocent until proven Guilty" is a misnomer, no such legal founding exists in Australia. It often gets mixed up with the Burden of Proof. Import laws require you to be able to define what you are importing and its use, thus you have the burden of Proof. It is unreasonable to suggest that protection can be obtained by simply ignoring all the things that authorities are new to or unaware of.

    • @knifeyonline

      I don't think so. Furthermore It would have been extremely easy to forge enough proof for them to let it through. I didn't do it because I have a code of ethics. I know innocent until proven guilty doesn't exist in Australia. But it's not something that gets mixed up with burden of proof, it's saying the burden of proof is specifically on the accused (in the case I'm talking about)... Not sure if that's what you meant, but yes I'm aware. My point was that it's so easy to forge things like that it should not be an option. The technology exists...

And if he can poison a dart can't he just poison your food or drink ? And why use a weapon that will be full of you DNA after use so you will need to carry with you until you clean it ???

  • @sandbox302
    @sandbox302 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I live in Australia and my little brother and I made a very strong blowgun out of a pvc pipe, duct tape and some hot glue the darts were made out of screws and the heads of silicone tubes they are ridiculously easy to make especially considering my brother was 8 at the time when we made these and all the materials are readily available not only that but we tested out the pipe before modifying anything to it and it was still just as strong as the finished blowgun obviously since it doesn't really matter what we changed because it was still just a hollow tube you could find in plenty of stores

      @PDionneGosselin 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Max Harris But... what's the point 0_o? Maybe a rather bizare geo-engineering project... But it would probably not work.
      If you want practical uses of nukes, other than, well, intimidation... it's pretty good a caping oil/gaz leaks at drilling sites, or potentially deflecting asteroids.

      ***** That is where I got the Idea

    • @PDionneGosselin
      @PDionneGosselin 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ***** No. Something is only radioactive if the material inside the asteroid itself releases radiation, exposing it to radiation isn't enough.
      A nuclear bomb produces both energy and radiation in parallel, using nuclear reactions. However,the radiation isn't produced by the energy, just the nuclear reactions themselves.
      As you obviously know, the source of energy in an asteroid impact just comes from it's kinetic energy. The only radiation you will get from that is heat and light (Maybe U.Vs if it get's hot enough, but not sure about that).

    I do agree its stupid to ban blow guns. But the presumption of innocence is always true in Canada. An easy exemple is finger print.
    You CAN argue in court that finger prints are not unique and so you are not guilty even if they found your prints on the murder weapon. But then its up to you to prove it. Not to the court to prove that finger prints are incriminating.
    On a side note, US customs have banned Kinder Surprise eggs. They are considered dangerous. In a country that allows open carry of AK-47 in an airport.

    Its like knife laws in NY for instance. Be it hunting, fishing or even kitchen knives.
    Even if you're literally out fishing, it's happened to quite a few people, they get charged with possession of an illegal weapon and also have the knife confiscated, just for using it for it's intended purpose and not breaking any other laws.
    Technically, if you go to a store and buy a kitchen knife set and the blades are longer than 3 inches or whatever the limit is, you get pulled over by police and they see the knives you purchased in your back seat, you can hypothetically be charged with possession of an illegal weapon, and then it's up to you to go to court and prove they weren't weapons.
    It's pure insanity.

  • @jonathandoe1367
    @jonathandoe1367 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm in total agreement about the ban, and that intent matters, and that in the rare case that someone would try to kill someone with a nonstandard weapon, (such as a blowgun or crossbow or something) it would just make the murder all the less effective and more easy to trace back to the perp.
    However, I slightly disagree about nuclear bombs having only two purposes. They were also considered for demolition of nonliving structures/landscapes.

    I am for gun control and weapon control in general, but damn... this is getting out of hand. When I say gun control, I don't mean "take away the gun", I mean have the gun registered and have the owner go trough training on how to safely operate the gun.
    Edit.1: Ironically, Blow-guns are designed to be used with poison darts. Because the darts by themselves are not likely to kill anything larger than a rabbit.

  • @cyruslever586

    its also extremely hard to find or make a poison that would be effectve on humans in a small enough dosage to be delivered by a blow gun. maybe if youre shooting syringes full of something but youd need a bolt that was heavy enough to push the plunger so youd need a bow probably

    im in the UK and have a blow gun, ( so called blow gun) its a pipe with a mouth piece that can be used to fire darts. I have shot pigeons with it and concrete walls, plaster board walls, wood and cardboard and my conclusions are i would much rather 100% be hit by a blow gun dart than a gun or knife or well any other illegal weapon. A blow gun is not used on people it just isn't My one for example only cheap but still it may cause bleeding or infection if untreated but death no. Aslong as the wound is treated (the very very tiny pin prick wound) then all is fine. Its just stupid. Anyone can make a blow gun out of a damn pipe, paper and nails it isn't difficult why are police wasting time on blow gun when there are guns and knives on the streets. Deal with them. P.S. Great video Keep it up as always skallagrim :)

    I have a foam sword I made for nerf, it’s made of pool noodle and 1/2” pvc. The pommel is a 1/2” slip to 3/4” threaded adapter. By its nature it can fit and fire a nerf dart with a decent pop and the pommel acts as an embouchure. The law (in Canada, not my state) states it’s an illegal weapon. PVC pipe intended for use in toy combat is illegal in Canada.

    haha this is hilarious :D and thanks a lot btw, this video reminded me of the great times I had as a child when my father gifted me a blowgun for my birthday. It was made of two seperate...well... tubes... connected via a handle. The darts were simply small metal sticks with a plastic thingy at the end. You couldn't call it fletching, really. But with a little practice even with this it was possible to get some relatively accurate shots over some meters.
