  • Reports say India's I.T. workers may see a drop in their pay packages by as much as 40%. This will affect not only the freshers, but also the CXOs. IT employees may also see a drop in their variable pay. What or who is to be blamed?

Remember what these news readers were telling during the start of the pandemic? Work hard and be always prepared, grind on the leetcode, system designs and eventually the job market will raise again. Have the hope and use this time to be prepared when the job market opens. Current trend is companies are opening their cost centres in India and in future there will be more openings.

If a country fails to invest in innovation and research and development (R&D), finding a solution for small and medium enterprises (SSME) becomes elusive. Currently, our emphasis is on a consumption-driven market, which essentially involves indiscriminately releasing products and outsourcing at lower pay rates to reduce companies' operational margins.

There's a short-term mismatch between supply and demand plus experience. Also, global demand is stagnant due to geopolitical challanges. Unfortunately, the middle class indian students get fooled by hype created by advertisements, and training institutes. Due to AI and automation, demand for entry level and upto 2 years experience has decreased by almost 60% to 70% including freshers. Only highly experienced and high-tech workers are in demand. If you have more than 5 years experience, you should be okay as long as you are skilled. Indian youth should try to move overseas and try non IT careers. For the ones here, they need to keep applying and learning in 2024. There's still a lot of scope for experienced and with good salaries. In next 6 months we will see a pick in hiring, but there's still a backlog in terms of supply of freshers. So don't just keep yourself limited to IT, try to gain experience in other sectors as well. Every sector needs IT as basic requirement these days.

  • @sundarrajn1003

The IT companies are full of redundant middle managers who don't code or know anything technical. They also eat up large salaries and not really justify their salaries. For team of five, there may be 3 middle level managers with various titles tracking 5 people. They don't actually work on the project, but simply schedule meetings and drive up project cost with their ultra high salaries. This is bound to happen.

In America "the boom" was due to free money which was getting printed out of thin air (US Dollars) based on nothing and 0% interest rates, all these companies enjoyed that and now that interest rates are high and it is time to payback, the companies are cutting down the cost. It has nothing to do with the "slow economy" , it is because of inflationwhich was result of chain disruptions during covid plus wars and to control that inflation Feds raising the interest rates. The tech market will boom once again if the interest rates go down and if dollars is not devalued, which is unlikely because the way market is going on it looks like dollar will get devalued and all of a sudden people will realize that they are no longer millionaires or billionaires
