We don’t feed our cows the same way everyday… Here’s why!

- For the most part, we try and have a base of beet pulp in all of our cattle’s diet. We buy the same ingredients everytime we run to the feed store… yet… day to day, our feed looks different for each animal.
Before animals calve, I will be feeding them MORE because of the assumed energy loss there may be from calving. The rest depends on them and what I observe.
1. I like variety in my diet…. Why wouldn’t animals?
2. Their nutritional needs are constantly changing.
3. Since I observe their body condition and their manure, I make adjustments accordingly.

Excellent understanding of relationship of carbs and protein to their diets. Going to be a lot more demanding when you have 5 to 10 head milking. This is why many large dairies use nutrionists to adjust feed rations. The future of your dairy endeavor will determine how you manage the animal feeding, such as what crops will you produce and how you store those harvested crops.
@@kswaynes7569 I was thinking about that today! Once they’re all together, I’ll be doing a bit more investigating to figure out what manure goes to which cow! 😂
Maybe someday I’ll recruit my kids, and I’ll get to spend more time on nutrition. That’s honestly been one of the funnest things for me when it came to raising them from calves ❤️
Very good info. Rouge and my cow Nelly have the same body type. I would like her to gain a little weight. 😊 Nala is really looking good.
Thanks for explaining what and why you feed certain things.
@@carsonandclark of course!! Feeding them is what’s been the most exciting to me for whatever reason. Whenever I see videos of Nelly, she reminds me so much of my Rouge. Same colors, too ❤️❤️
Plus +++ to see and a practice that should be mandatory, leaving the calves with their mother .at least for 4 months. Personally I'd like a minimum 1 year
SO many health benefits for mama AND baby to keep them together. Both our jerseys are great, loving mothers who, combined, give us more milk and cream than we know what to do with. With our girls, it would just be cruel and senseless to take away their calves.
