I don't get why some people hate on Honeymoon. Lana's vocals, the lyrics, the production, everything about this album is sooo good. It's my most favorite album of hers.
It has a very cinematic quality to it, which makes sense with the art of the album. It was the first album to come out after I became a fan and I played the CD in my car a ton, I've always loved it
I love it too, it’s very deep and dark but I felt it so much when it came out cause I had lost my mind at the time and I wanted to leave my bf and escape from my toxic father so honeymoon was what I needed when it came out, I thought she was feeling the same way I was feeling. I felt so understood
It’s an experience that should be listened to the whole way through, in my opinion… All her albums are brilliant, but Honeymoon is certainly a grand work. It took me a long time to realize this, even though I liked all the songs. Honeymoon is a whole vibe. But maybe that’s just me, because it came out at a pivotal part of my life and I played it all the time lol.
The end of this song, when the bass drops back in and she sings “it’s not one of those phases I’m going through or just a song” hits so fucking hard, the way her voice seems strained on “song” lends such an emotional weight to it
My theory about "The Blackest Day" is that Lana was in a new relationship while still processing and grieving her previous serious relationship. That's why, in the beginning, it's so hard for her to explain her feelings to her new lover. Ever since her baby (previous lover) went away she's been so sad and depressed. To get her mind off them, she's been having new flings and "looking for love in all the wrong places." Just trying to fill the void and loneliness while still being heartbroken, but of course it doesn't work. She doesn't want to talk about her future with her new lover because she can't even imagine one. She says "'Cause there's nothing for me to think about, now that he (her previous lover) is gone, I can't feel nothing." She's in a new relationship with a person, in the car with them, but she's emotionally detached. To me, the bridge is her eventually ruining this relationship and ultimately making her new lover feel the same way someone did to her. She's breaking their heart in the same way her's was broken because she is now the one who is emotionally unavailable. She's talking in third person, telling him he should've known better. "You're deader than ever and falling for forever, I'm playing head games with you... I got you where I want you now." Instead of being the one getting played and being led on, she's doing it to someone. Now her previous relationship and new relationship both went to flames and she's on her own again.
I came to comment THE SAME THING, thank u! I don’t know if it’s because I already been thru the same thing as she sings in this song so I deeply relate but never had any other interpretation. Really one of my favs ever from Lanita
@@aghatabarbosa19 I'm so glad someone else hears it this way too! I never gave it too much thought until I also went through this situation over & over again and found myself listening to the song nonstop and relating to it so much. Experiences really make us appreciate and understand songs from a new perspective ❤🩹
Some fans have argued that this very song explores the five stages of grief. Denial (1st verse), Anger (bridge), Bargaining (2nd verse), Depression (chorus) and Acceptance (outro). Here more about mourning the loss of a relationship and just being at the depths of depression. There are some interesting analyses online if you ever have time to read them.
I'ma have to deep dive also! I've never heard this b4 but I've only been a fan of Lana & found her music year B4 last. I also realized that Mere basically said the same exact thing in her analysis without the knowledge from ur comment. I'm def gonna do some investigating...
I always saw this song as her being into a dark place after losing someone she loved (maybe he just left or died) and her using other people to seek love and to forget about him. Her manipulating other people so they could be her scape, but never something serious because she doesnt feel anything for them. Thats the manipulation part. But still feeling alone...idk, thats how i see it😅
What I love the most about this song is that she is our Billie Holiday. I listen to Lana every single day, and I'm currently in one of the happiest moments in my life, but when I'm sad I go to her too because her music just feels different.
@@mendwithmere YAY!!!!! I read on twitter that Black Beauty was about her trying to be understanding to a bf that was depressed, making herself "darker" to fit into his world and I thought it was so beautiful.
Lyrics in themselves .. or written words written yourself even .. you're casting spells ! Spelling out the words .. "put your thoughts into words and your words into actions" 🫶💙💜
The bridge "you should've know better..." is actually a sort of love spell, originally in Spanish but Lana translated to English. And the function of the spell is to make who you want to fall in love with you.
I was so happy to see your face when she said "Billie Holiday"... I dont think alot of ppl get her or know about her. "Strange fruit" & her whole, very hard life & her death while being handcuffed to the bed 😢 its heartbreaking. I have to look into things when I hear them so I did. Lana is the reason I looked into Billie Holiday, last year. I've learned so much from Lana's music. I didnt even know there were black beaches until I heard her music. I discovered her music year b4 last. She is a wealth of info, not just music... This song is beautifully haunting, one of my faves... Amazing as always Mere! ❤
Girl!!! I've always wanted someone smart like you to interview Lana or have a super relaxed conversation with her and be able to listen to Lana explain the meaning of each song... because they all have a thousand interpretations and in one way or another they all make sense hahahahaha Lana doesn't gives information about the meaning of the songs... It's amazing how the years go by and there are so many theories of so many Lana's songs. It would be great if you could talk to her.❤
Even if she doesn’t feel comfortable now Lana really should do a full discography breakdown at some point of her life. There really are hundreds of interpretations of her songs and that’s the beauty of art but i would love if someday we got to know what she meant by each song.
Textbook is magical cause i didn't really like it for the first time, but after three times to single cycle it i suddenly get its melody🥺 really changeable but touching
In my interpretation it’s about the grief and loneliness of the inevitable discard phase in a toxic relationship… and the bridge is her regaining control during that phase, getting him where she wants him by starving him of the attention and the feeling of being under her spell…
I think this song is about being in a relationship as a way of escaping/grieving the loss/death of the love of lana's life. She’s in a relationship with a man already but he’s not the same man she’s referring to while saying “ever since my baby went away its been the blackest day”. I’ll try to explain line by line why I came to this conclusion. “Carry me home, got my blue nail polish on It's my favorite color and my favorite tone of song "I don't really wanna break up, we got it going on" It's what you gathered from my talk, but you were wrong” here lana is talking to her current partner, she’s feeling blue( sad) she has her blue nail polish on and her favorite blue(sad) music( billie holiday). She’s not happy in her current relationship and her partner can tell. “I don't really wanna break up, we got it going on" she doesnt want to break up with him tho and she knows he thinks that she wants to break up with him and she addresses that. “It's what you gathered from my talk, but you were wrong”. but then if she doesnt want to break up with him whats actually bothering her? “It's not easy for me to talk about I have heavy heartstrings I'm not simple, it's trigonometry It's hard to express I can't explain” she tells us how hard it is for her to actually talk about what’s troubling her and making her blue. but then in the chorus she finally tells us “Ever since my baby went away It's been the blackest day It's been the blackest day All I hear is Billie Holiday It's all that I play It's all that I play” Most lana fans she talks about a dying lover she talks about him extensively in her song dark paradise. I think this is the same ex lover she’s refering to, the one that went away. “Because I'm going deeper and deeper (Deeper) Harder and harder (Harder) Getting darker and darker Looking for love In all the wrong places Oh, my God In all the wrong places Oh, my God” here lana realises how ever since his death she’s been looking for love in wrong places(just like her current relationship). She’s being destructive. “Carry me home, got my new coat and my gun Wind in my hair, holding your hand, listening to our song” Here lana is talking to her current lover again. she wants him to take her home. she has a new coat( protection against the cold?) let’s remember blue is a cold color. also she has a gun which symbols physical protection. Lana does this a lot, in her song cruel world “got your bible and got your gun” referencing them both for spiritual and physical protection. they’re doing fun things (supposedly), wind in her hair(freedom), holding hands and listening to music but its all so superficial, such a fascade of what a happy honeymoon is. None of it is real. “Carry me home, don't wanna talk about the things to come Just put your hands up in the air, the radio on 'Cause there's nothing for us to talk about Like the future and those things 'Cause there's nothing for me to think about Now that he's gone, I can't feel nothing” More indications of how unhappy she is, she doesn’t want to talk about their future as a couple she just wants to have superficial fun and act as if they’re a happy couple having fun. “Cause there's nothing for me to think about Now that he's gone, I can't feel nothing” she tells us and him again why the future doesnt matter because time has frozen for her ever since he left she cant feel anything. she’s blue. “You should've known better Than to have, to let her Get you under her spell of the weather I got you where I want you You're deader than ever And falling for forever I'm playing head games with you Got you where I want you I got you, I got you I got you where I want you now” here lana is talking about herself in 3rd person, this could mean she’s seperating herself from her own toxic actions/behaviors as a coping mechanism. Its like a voice in her head or maybe his head, telling him he should have known better than to believe her love for him. “get you under the spell of the weather” is a reference to how moody she is just like the weather and thats what pulled him after all, like a spell. “Deader than ever” I think her own depression and fascination with death is starting to impact him too, he’s becoming dead inside just like her. “And falling for forever”, marriage is supposed to be an eternal bond and honeymoons are supposed to be the best phase, none of that is real in this relationship. Lana feels like she has manipulated him into falling for her lie (that they’re forever). She even thinks she’s playing head games with him. “All I hear is Billie Holiday” just like you mentioned lana relates a lot to billie holiday and her music, she finds herself listening to her a lot. “It's not one of those phases I'm going through Or just a song, it's not one of them I'm on my own On my own On my own again I'm on my own again I'm on my own again I'm on my own again I'm on my own again” eventually the song ends with the relationship ane the honeymoon finally crumbling. Lana here addresses her critics/fans on how her sadness is not a phase, its an ongoing state she’s always been in and now she’s on her own again.
This is probably my favorite lana bridge both sonically and lyrically. The way she sings it in an almost playfully suductive wisper talking about "you should've known better" "i got you were i want you" "I'm playing mind games with you". If you isolate it from the rest of the song it sounds like a flirty cat and mouse type of thing but in context it seems like its her desperately trying to grab onto anything that gives her a sense of control or power that she now feels she lacks because her "baby went away". Over all it's such a fun verse to listen (the layering and all the way she sings the different parts) and dissect because there are many ways it can be interpreted
You've become my favorite reactionist so fast! I recommend you High by the beach (girlboss lyrics) and 13 beaches (about burden of fame) from Lana ❤ love
OMG THIS IS AMAZING i love your reactions and YES this song can have so many different meanings even though she is talking about something so personal as she makes clear at the end “it’s not one of those phases i’m going through or just a song” sounds like a cry for help or venting… this is one of my favorites from lana and i remember back then in high school i listened to it all the time and personally related to my stuff like depression, realization of past trauma, abandonment, parenting issues, loneliness, not seeing a furure/lost of hope etc so lana really helped digest all that with her songs and this one is really special
I really think that when she sings "I'm on my own again" she says it like she's in pain, like regretting she can never really find love, that's why she repeats it in the way she does
Okay so my interpretation - and I’m unsure of this, but this is how I’ve always perceived it since Honeymoon came out (my fav album of hers btw 😉) is that this song is her in a relationship with someone that she is not in love with. Someone that she’s with just to fill the void, so she doesn’t feel so alone. “Ever since my baby went away” is in reference to an ex who is no longer in her life for whatever reason, whom she is still in love with. I think it’s her admitting that she has manipulated the person she is with currently “I got you where I want you now” - ‘where I want you now’ meaning infatuated with her, and her “oh my god” lyric is potentially realising either A) how much of a fucked up thing that is, or B) realising that this relationship is not filling the void - or the blackness/depression that she feels after losing the relationship with the person that she loved. What I really like about Lana is that she’s not really afraid to paint herself as the antagonist in her music sometimes. Songs like Cola from the Paradise album, or Sad Girl from the Ultraviolence album both paint her to be… not the most morally good person. Whether that’s a character she’s playing, or her actual life experience is up for debate but I like that she leaves it to the listener to interpret as they wish. It makes her music and her lyricism feel very human in that sense. It’s a form of vulnerability that not a lot of people willingly offer upfront. ALL of that being said, I do also really like the theory that someone else commented re. the 5 stages of grief. Super cool! I adore this song and I hope you’re doing well Mere!
the lyrics on the video youre watching were wrong on the bridge, its actually: "I got you where I want you You're deader than ever And falling for forever I'm playing head games with you" a lot of fans says that this bridge is actualy some sort of curse/spell and i love that! i see her kinda being dellusional like when youre drunk and think about what you want and, for a minute, you imagine a scenario where that is true, and when you bring that out loud you see how dellusional it sounds... i see something like that on the bridge, especially because in the outro she realizes the truth of her life, that shes on her own!
@@mendwithmere people say that’s the “Lana del Rey’s Amarre” recited while performing a specific ritual you could "tie down" the person you want to be in a relationship with.
i absolutely love your reactions. it brings a different perspective and a clearer picture of what lana is trying to tell us. terrence loves you next please !
Just what you said about her Scorpio rising (which same) makes sense how she’s so good at putting emotion into her songs and the way she writes. Her sun is Cancer.
Can we talk about the yellow eyeshadow?! Not everyone can wear it and look so cool and unpredictably beautiful like you have! I’m loving it!! Awesome review of the song btw. I miss listening to honeymoon 🤍
love to see honeymoon get its flowers, it has been and continues to be lana's most underrated album! by the way, i recommend looking into the lyrics on Genius (less mistakes and more context). cause in the fan made video "you're deader than ever" was changed to "you did it, i never" (the bridge), and there are other instances in lana's discography where her singing is ambiguous. Cola (Paradise EP) is still up in the air bc we don't know if she mentioned harvey w*inste*n or not, there's conflicting info on that lol
About the Harvey part, Lana mentioned in an interview; "When I wrote that song, I suppose I had a Harvey Weinstein/Harry Winston-type of character in mind. I envisioned, like, a benevolent, diamond-bestowing-upon-starlets visual, like a ‘Citizen Kane’ or something. I’m not really sure. But I thought it was funny at the time, and I obviously find it really sad now....."
@@ureth_ra9654 that's a good catch cause this is the most she's ever talked about the song, but also she didn't confirm nor deny anything about the lyrics if we're being honest.
Your hair & make-up look so pretty today, Mere! 💜 I can't wait to see you react to more Honeymoon, it is so ethereal. I just know that Art Deco & Religion are going to blow your mind. You said "the people you love the most end up treating you the worst" and I think that sums up the journey of Honeymoon perfectly. The opener, Honeymoon, is so hopeful & the opening line is "we both know that it's not fashionable to love me" but it seems like she's ready to let this man love her and is she is ready to love him despite all the shortcomings. But by the end, you've got the tracks 24, which is very forewarning & she's calling her man out from being a liar etc. And then the cover of Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood; an ode to Nina Simone, who is of course so well known for her blues & jazz music, wraps it up with the reminder of the great voices who came before her who also have a similar story to tell. I don't know if you know about Lana's tattoos, but she has "Nina Billie" tattooed on her left collar bone too. "Amy Whitney" are tattooed on her right collar bone & that is for Amy Winehouse & Whitney Houston. Her birds of paradise, who you know she mentioned in Get Free. Excellent interpretation as always. 💗
Honeymoon as a whole is an underrated masterpiece. The poem she reads during the Burnt Notion Interlude is just perfect. But after you reacting to this one I'd be really interested to see your breakdown on the song In My Feelings or the video for White Mustang from Lust For Life. Although you've probably already seen White Mustang, but just in case you haven't... it's worth it :)
Its funny that you mentioned the spell thing.. cause I remember having heard a theory that the bridge it's lana casting a spell.. using the power of 3 times 3 cause she repeats "I got you " 3 times. just silly but i always liked the idea of it. Love your videos✨
I can’t believed my favorite therapist reacted to my favorite song❤❤ just made my whole day. Thanks for always being so empathetic and gentle, seeing your videos before bed is is the comfort I need to sleep well as a someone who suffer with very strong anxiety/insomnia. Thank youuu very mutch and pls never stop making videos like that.
I listened to this song for like a whole year...cause I was depressed..this song n drugs were my only medicine...I regret nothing...it's still the best song ever
You should definitely review this is what makes us girls by Lana Del Rey. I feel like there’s a deeper meaning to the song than most people expect, and I think it gives a lot of insight to her background about being sent her way at a young age
just wanted to say that i really enjoy watching each of your reactions to lana. i think that you really delve into the lyrics, and work through the complexities in her songs, so thoughtfully and beautifully. you really understand a lot of her themes she discusses like RIGHT AWAY, which is so nice to see and i genuinely believe that you would be the perfect person to have a sit down and interview with her. thank you again for the great videos mere :)
For me, how I look at it to relate to my story is the reflection of the aftermath of a temporary situation. Starts off with not wanting it to end, even though you know it should and that it hurts you more than it benefits. Then, it focuses on realizing that this person went after someone else when you went after them, finally allowing you to put them in the perspective of not being a good person. You are on your own again, but it is better this way.
I really think that when she talks about her baby going away, she’s really talking about an actual child. And how all of this affects her relationship with him and hearself. She really mean that this ain’t “just a song” or a “phase”. In “Cinnamon Girl” she’s talking about cinnamon in her teeth (or can be understood as tea) that is an abortion tea. And recently in ocean blvd she’s talks about having a baby as well!
I was so waiting for this video!! This is one of my favourite songs from Honeymoon. I’m so happy you reacted to it! If you’re ever looking for more songs from other artists to react to, I definitely recommend “Various Storms & Saints,” “St. Jude,” “Never Let Me Go,” and “Hunger,” by Florence + the Machine (or just any song really.) Florence’s lyricism is my favourite next to Lana’s, and I think you would appreciate it too. Thanks for the video! Have a great night!
I interpreted the song completely differently lol. For me, she’s grieving and recalls a time when her and somebody she loved, though not an easy relationship, in whatever way that was, were growing closer and she was sure she had him, but that disintegrated, because he either passed away or due to something else. I wonder what the real story behind it is.
I just want to point out that it seems like she is singing to different people on different stages of the song. For instance, in the second chorus, I always assumed she was singing to a different guy, one she's only having fun with while grieving for the guy the song is about. "There's nothing for us to talk about, like the future and those things, there's nothing for me to think about, now that he's gone, I can't feel nothing". First she says "us", talking about herself and the second guy, by the end she says "he", which makes me assume she's talking about a different person that doesn't belong to the previous "us". As if she can't see herself with this other guy because she lost the capacity to fall in love after losing the one she did love. Maybe it's something similar with the bridge? Maybe the guy she is singing to fell for another woman, and the "I got you were I want you now" is not meant for him but for someone else? I don't know what to make of the bridge either, but I do think in the second chorus she's singing to a different person.
i almost feel like this song has the same subject as her song Heroin, which is about her boyfriend who died of an OD in 2011. like she was lost and he made her feel found but suddenly she was on her own again. it wasn’t long after his death that she was catapulted to fame
i can also see this as kinda the same dynamic as Ghostin where every one of lana’s days are blacker and blacker since her lover “went away” and she is maybe in a new relationship but she’s not really there. with this lens the bridge is, like you suggested, about her and how her man should have stayed far away from her
Actually this is about O'nell, her most long lasting boyfriend, they were engaged and in an interview she said something that he got wrong and decided to end up the relation. That broke her
@@lorenavasques8657 ya i mean i feel like your right that it’s about that relationship since it’s more recent but i like to think that the ghosts of her other relationships are also found deep within many of her songs
Thank you again Mere! She’s taking her astrology at the other song (chemtrails over the country club, definitely watch the original video when you get to it,the women who run with wolves is so in there) back to astrology: baby what’s your sign? my moon’s in leo, my cancer is sun”
Omg I’m getting so frustrated with these lyric videos not being right. I did a whole portion with a different lyrics video and that was wrong too! Ahhh
Love your reaction!! There's a story behind this song, something about she did a interview and said something and her boyfriend at that time(the one she was engaged and who almost all the Ultraviolence album is about, especially Black Beauty) understood something wrong from what she said and decided to break up. They were extremely in love, and the end of that relationship hit so hard Lana, she was very depressed back then... Black Beauty would be a nice next react!! Hugs!
i see this piece as how break ups works for people mentally ill, specially borderline. using manipulation and love/lust to get over things but never really letting it go
The bridge of “I’ve got you where I want you..” Is this her dating life after ‘her blackest day’? After him, she’s dating for the game, she’s become a player with future relationships since she’s lost the love of her life. Here on out, she uses men since she felt used by ‘the one.’
I'm happy I got to see this upload early, cause it means it's more likely for you to read what I have to say: I'm 22, listening to Lana since her debut in 2012, when I stayed up overnight listening to her first song I heard on repeat (Blue Jeans, btw) - that's how much instantly I connected with her. However, since I started watching you from a clip on TikTok, I've been understanding more about her process of evolution and maturing by paying closer attention to her lines and their meanings, and even references because English's not my mother language. I like watching some reactions, especially to her most touching albuns and songs, because it makes me feel a little like I felt when I myself listened to the same tracks for the first times. It's even better with you, though, for it's very clear to me how you too put some effort into relating with what Lanita is saying, hence, like already mention, giving me interpretations of lyrics I haven't realized before - or, most likely, I haven't understood at all before. Also, you've been posting so much content and that's great entertainment! Hope you're enjoying it all and not overdoing anything that'd make you tired at some point, and then leaving us. haha Lastly, I'd like to suggest you to check out "Religion". Take care, Mend. xo =)
@@mendwithmere im not the biggest beliver in astrology (i thinks its interesting but im not sure about true) but i think its a sign as to why i connect with them so much 💕. Also in chemtails over the country club she references her astrology chart
Thanks for this! I love how quickly you're able to understand the lyrics of these songs. I've been listening to some of these Lana songs for years without really knowing what they're about and understanding all the lyrics. It would be so interesting to hear your thoughts on Black Beauty and Chemtrails over the Country Club!
Honeymoon is my favourite álbum, and for me ia a masterpiece, the blackest day i thing its about grief, not only for death, but from break ups and about hersel and in the bridge i totally have the same felling of being a spell to brig the lover back Please listen to honeymoon, its a unique album, for me the saddest but the most beautiful to ❤
The bridge is an “actual love spell” to get the person you want. It starts just right at 4:20 and ends selling the spells saying 3 times “I GOT YOU where I want you know”. You can look up for more info about the magic spell. I believe it actually works
Carry me home, got my blue nail polish on It's my favorite color and my favorite tone of song I don't really wanna break up, we got it going on It's what you gathered from my talk, but you were wrong It's not easy for me to talk about I have heavy heart strings And not simple, it's trigonometry It's hard to express I can't explain Ever since my baby went away It's been the blackest day, it's been the blackest day All I hear is Billie Holiday It's all that I play It's all that I play Because I'm going deeper and deeper (deeper) Harder and harder (harder) Getting darker and darker Looking for love In all the wrong places Oh my god In all the wrong places Oh my god Carry me home, got my new car and my gun Wind in my hair, holding your hand, listen to a song Carry me home, don't wanna talk about the things to come Just put your hands up in the air, the radio on 'Cause there's nothing for us to talk about Like the future and those things 'Cause there's nothing for me to think about Now that he's gone, I can't feel nothing Ever since my baby went away It's been the blackest day, it's been the blackest day All I hear is Billie Holiday It's all that I play It's all that I play Because I'm going deeper and deeper (deeper) Harder and harder (harder) Getting darker and darker Looking for love In all the wrong places Oh my god In all the wrong places Oh my god You should've known better Than to have, to let her Get you under her spell of the weather I got you where I want you You're deader than ever I'm falling for forever I'm playing head games with you Got you where I want you I got you, I got you I got you where I want you now Ever since my baby went away It's been the blackest day, it's been the blackest day All I hear is Billie Holiday It's all that I play It's all that I play It's not one of those phases I'm going through Or just a song, it's not one of them I'm on my own On my own On my own again I'm on my own again I'm on my own again I'm on my own again I'm on my own again
For anyone that relates to this song, the part that stands out the most is I'm going deeper and deeper and getting darker and darker. I think that's the most emotional part of the song, I was hoping to hear more about that. But your videos are soo interesting!!
I think when she’s talking about the spell she’s talking about depression. That bridge part is the depression talking.. that it got him. It’s very much seen in other songs.. a man that’s always depressed . Shades of cool .. black beauty.
Mere ! I just thought of another EXCELLENT LIVE OF LANA'S that you MUST MUST get to ! It's from her Houston show in 2018 ! When the World Was at War We Kept Dancing - you're going to love it so much I just know itttt !!!! Please please please I'm going to be waiting in great anticipation ! 😊
Also you’ve got to react to sevdaliza. Her music is very deep, transformative and healing. Her music has a lot of trip hop/experimental vibes with Iranian production
Old money would be a good one to react to! Although it is depressing 😅😭 specifically the second verse when she talks about her mom & dad but it’s still a beautiful song!
It was critiqued and hated therefore overlooked, years later everyone appreciates it for the beauty it actually is.
honeymoon is the most beautifully produced album everything is so precise and specifically beautiful about it
her music has saved a generation of kids that never seemed to be enough. her music will live on and on. legendary.
The end of this song, when the bass drops back in and she sings “it’s not one of those phases I’m going through or just a song” hits so fucking hard, the way her voice seems strained on “song” lends such an emotional weight to it
Yes you can feel that it is guttural.
you're so right, honeymoon is truly lana's album of bridges and outros....
This is verbatim what I always say!! You took the words right out of my mouth 🔥🔥 I love when she belts "Just a Song"
If this is ur theory then ur so smart, if this is what truly lana means then lana is truly iconic unique weird singer
I've never thought of it this way and it makes so much sense 🤯
This is good 👍🏼
I came to comment THE SAME THING, thank u!
Oh, I’m going on a deep dive this weekend :)
I'ma have to deep dive also!
I've never heard this b4 but I've only been a fan of Lana & found her music year B4 last. I also realized that Mere basically said the same exact thing in her analysis without the knowledge from ur comment. I'm def gonna do some investigating...
I always associated that song with this, especially validating harsh truths in therapy. This song saved my life.
with the way It ends I don't think in the song she really healed she's continuing the cycle of
Pain and pass it to her new lover
I always saw this song as her being into a dark place after losing someone she loved (maybe he just left or died) and her using other people to seek love and to forget about him. Her manipulating other people so they could be her scape, but never something serious because she doesnt feel anything for them. Thats the manipulation part. But still feeling alone...idk, thats how i see it😅
Wow. THIS!
brilliant
What I love the most about this song is that she is our Billie Holiday. I listen to Lana every single day, and I'm currently in one of the happiest moments in my life, but when I'm sad I go to her too because her music just feels different.
Black Beauty next, one of my top 3 lana songs. It makes me curl up and sob
It’s coming in the next week for sure
@mendwithmere But the Demo it's so much better, it was leak next to Angels forever, JFK, And Hollywood like in 2013.
@@mendwithmere Violets to Roses is connected to Black Beauty!
@@mendwithmere YAY!!!!! I read on twitter that Black Beauty was about her trying to be understanding to a bf that was depressed, making herself "darker" to fit into his world and I thought it was so beautiful.

this is my favorite song from honeymoon, the bridge is so witchy, like she’s putting a spell on us ❤
there's literally a spell on the bridge lol
The bridge is actually a type of spell called a verbal spell
Lyrics in themselves .. or written words written yourself even .. you're casting spells ! Spelling out the words .. "put your thoughts into words and your words into actions" 🫶💙💜
The bridge "you should've know better..." is actually a sort of love spell, originally in Spanish but Lana translated to English. And the function of the spell is to make who you want to fall in love with you.
Black beauty, blackest day & Black Bathing suit... ALL SO GOOD
YES, this song is actually a SPELL, lana say it💀🎃✨
I was so happy to see your face when she said "Billie Holiday"...
That is so wonderful that Lana opened you up to Billie and has taught you so much, I feel the same! Thank you for watching ❤
Oooh this is one of Lana's greatest masterpieces 🖤
Can we have Textbook next???
i second this omgg
“Carry me home, got my blue nail polish on
It's my favorite color and my favorite tone of song
"I don't really wanna break up, we got it going on"
It's what you gathered from my talk, but you were wrong”
here lana is talking to her current partner, she’s feeling blue( sad) she has her blue nail polish on and her favorite blue(sad) music( billie holiday).
“It's not easy for me to talk about
I have heavy heartstrings
I'm not simple, it's trigonometry
It's hard to express
I can't explain”
she tells us how hard it is for her to actually talk about what’s troubling her and making her blue.
but then in the chorus she finally tells us
“Ever since my baby went away
It's been the blackest day
It's been the blackest day
All I hear is Billie Holiday
It's all that I play
It's all that I play”
Most lana fans she talks about a dying lover she talks about him extensively in her song dark paradise. I think this is the same ex lover she’s refering to, the one that went away.
“Because I'm going deeper and deeper (Deeper)
Harder and harder (Harder)
Getting darker and darker
Looking for love
In all the wrong places
Oh, my God
In all the wrong places
Oh, my God”
here lana realises how ever since his death she’s been looking for love in wrong places(just like her current relationship). She’s being destructive.
“Carry me home, got my new coat and my gun
Wind in my hair, holding your hand, listening to our song”
Here lana is talking to her current lover again. she wants him to take her home. she has a new coat( protection against the cold?) let’s remember blue is a cold color. also she has a gun which symbols physical protection.
“Carry me home, don't wanna talk about the things to come
Just put your hands up in the air, the radio on
'Cause there's nothing for us to talk about
Like the future and those things
'Cause there's nothing for me to think about
Now that he's gone, I can't feel nothing”
More indications of how unhappy she is, she doesn’t want to talk about their future as a couple she just wants to have superficial fun and act as if they’re a happy couple having fun.
“Cause there's nothing for me to think about
Now that he's gone, I can't feel nothing”
she tells us and him again why the future doesnt matter because time has frozen for her ever since he left she cant feel anything. she’s blue.
“You should've known better
Than to have, to let her
Get you under her spell of the weather
I got you where I want you
You're deader than ever
And falling for forever
I'm playing head games with you
Got you where I want you
I got you, I got you
I got you where I want you now”
here lana is talking about herself in 3rd person, this could mean she’s seperating herself from her own toxic actions/behaviors as a coping mechanism.
“It's not one of those phases I'm going through
Or just a song, it's not one of them
I'm on my own
On my own
On my own again
I'm on my own again
I'm on my own again
I'm on my own again
I'm on my own again”
eventually the song ends with the relationship ane the honeymoon finally crumbling.
Oooo I’ll check them out and thank you!
Ever since I lost my dog I've been listening to this song repeatedly. The lyrics just hits me everytime.
@@ILoveMyCat1605 umm,he died 😞
@ILoveMyCat1605 thank you dear ❤️ have a great day
If you and Lana ever did an interview it would be the most iconic thing ever and break the internet LOL 😂 love your reactions!
THIS !! LOL YES YES YES A HUNDRED TIMES OVER YES LOL
This song is perfection,as production, sound, layers of lyrics
OMG THIS IS AMAZING i love your reactions and YES this song can have so many different meanings even though she is talking about something so personal as she makes clear at the end “it’s not one of those phases i’m going through or just a song” sounds like a cry for help or venting… this is one of my favorites from lana and i remember back then in high school i listened to it all the time and personally related to my stuff like depression, realization of past trauma, abandonment, parenting issues, loneliness, not seeing a furure/lost of hope etc so lana really helped digest all that with her songs and this one is really special
Thank you for sharing this! I can totally see it as a cry for help too. Also, yes - I think you do love them 😊
I really think that when she sings "I'm on my own again" she says it like she's in pain, like regretting she can never really find love, that's why she repeats it in the way she does
Okay so my interpretation - and I’m unsure of this, but this is how I’ve always perceived it since Honeymoon came out (my fav album of hers btw 😉) is that this song is her in a relationship with someone that she is not in love with.
Super cool!
I adore this song and I hope you’re doing well Mere!
i love this comment, the way she’s not afraid to paint herself as the antagonist is one of the things that’s drawn me to her music since her btd era.
the lyrics on the video youre watching were wrong on the bridge, its actually:
"I got you where I want you
You're deader than ever
And falling for forever
I'm playing head games with you"
a lot of fans says that this bridge is actualy some sort of curse/spell and i love that! i see her kinda being dellusional like when youre drunk and think about what you want and, for a minute, you imagine a scenario where that is true, and when you bring that out loud you see how dellusional it sounds... i see something like that on the bridge, especially because in the outro she realizes the truth of her life, that shes on her own!
the bridge is actually a love spell!!!
Whaaaattt? Tell me more. I swear it felt like one
Thank you so much!!
Just what you said about her Scorpio rising (which same) makes sense how she’s so good at putting emotion into her songs and the way she writes. Her sun is Cancer.
i love this song so much cause it has so many different layers, its so beautiful
Can we talk about the yellow eyeshadow?! Not everyone can wear it and look so cool and unpredictably beautiful like you have! I’m loving it!! Awesome review of the song btw. I miss listening to honeymoon 🤍
She looks gorgeous! 💛
love to see honeymoon get its flowers, it has been and continues to be lana's most underrated album!
by the way, i recommend looking into the lyrics on Genius (less mistakes and more context). cause in the fan made video "you're deader than ever" was changed to "you did it, i never" (the bridge), and there are other instances in lana's discography where her singing is ambiguous. Cola (Paradise EP) is still up in the air bc we don't know if she mentioned harvey w*inste*n or not, there's conflicting info on that lol
About the Harvey part, Lana mentioned in an interview;
"When I wrote that song, I suppose I had a Harvey Weinstein/Harry Winston-type of character in mind.
One of my absolute favorites by her...
I feel like the persona thought is spot on!
Its funny that you mentioned the spell thing.. cause I remember having heard a theory that the bridge it's lana casting a spell.. using the power of 3 times 3 cause she repeats "I got you " 3 times. just silly but i always liked the idea of it.

You are on your own again, but it is better this way.
i’m a scorpio rising aswell i never knew that lana and taylor were aswell omg!
This song is a masterpiece! I'm so happy you brought this, is so deep and fascinating...
HONEYMOON is Lana’s best album. It went downhill from there. Something shifted. The energy changed. This album is GOLD.
you just GET it!!!
Have a great night!
i love all’ of your videos! the blackest day is such a beautiful song❤
Thank you!!❤
I interpreted the song completely differently lol. For me, she’s grieving and recalls a time when her and somebody she loved, though not an easy relationship, in whatever way that was, were growing closer and she was sure she had him, but that disintegrated, because he either passed away or due to something else. I wonder what the real story behind it is.
TOO REAL! Love your reactions 🫶
Thank you!!
I don't know what to make of the bridge either, but I do think in the second chorus she's singing to a different person.
i almost feel like this song has the same subject as her song Heroin, which is about her boyfriend who died of an OD in 2011. like she was lost and he made her feel found but suddenly she was on her own again. it wasn’t long after his death that she was catapulted to fame
i can also see this as kinda the same dynamic as Ghostin where every one of lana’s days are blacker and blacker since her lover “went away” and she is maybe in a new relationship but she’s not really there. with this lens the bridge is, like you suggested, about her and how her man should have stayed far away from her
same subject as them all. All the way up to the latest album.
Actually this is about O'nell, her most long lasting boyfriend, they were engaged and in an interview she said something that he got wrong and decided to end up the relation. That broke her
@@lorenavasques8657 lol
@@lorenavasques8657 ya i mean i feel like your right that it’s about that relationship since it’s more recent but i like to think that the ghosts of her other relationships are also found deep within many of her songs
Thank you again Mere! She’s taking her astrology at the other song (chemtrails over the country club, definitely watch the original video when you get to it,the women who run with wolves is so in there) back to astrology: baby what’s your sign? my moon’s in leo, my cancer is sun”
To make it short, it's about a complicated grief and the negative coping mechanisms she has been using.. 💙
at 8:02 im sure it isnt "you did it, i never" its "you're deader than ever"
Omg I’m getting so frustrated with these lyric videos not being right. I did a whole portion with a different lyrics video and that was wrong too! Ahhh
Rewatching every single one of your Lana reactions just to say that you are amazing and I love you
This is one of my favorites. I'm through a breakup and this hits hard.
Hugs!
on spotify the lyrics say "you're deader than ever", different from "you did it, i never"
Yea this lyric video is very off
i see this piece as how break ups works for people mentally ill, specially borderline. using manipulation and love/lust to get over things but never really letting it go
This song made me fall in love with her thank you for your reaction ❤❤❤
The bridge of “I’ve got you where I want you..” Is this her dating life after ‘her blackest day’? After him, she’s dating for the game, she’s become a player with future relationships since she’s lost the love of her life. Here on out, she uses men since she felt used by ‘the one.’
13 beaches PLEASEEEEEE it's one of her best
I haven’t heard that one much. I’ll add!
it's both the five stages of grief and before the acceptance she literally curse a spell

It's been the blackest day, it's been the blackest day
All I hear is Billie Holiday
It's all that I play
It's all that I play
It's not one of those phases I'm going through
Or just a song, it's not one of them
I'm on my own
On my own
On my own again
I'm on my own again
I'm on my own again
I'm on my own again
I'm on my own again
For anyone that relates to this song, the part that stands out the most is I'm going deeper and deeper and getting darker and darker. I think that's the most emotional part of the song, I was hoping to hear more about that. But your videos are soo interesting!!
loving this journey through lana’s discography ❤❤❤
I love your reactions and analysis of Lana songs. Please do 'Old Money' ❤
Water risings are iconic,, aqua sun cancer rising here
I love how you got it about the spell on the bridge it's been talk about for years now...
This reaction is so beautiful 🥲 I love this song
You have the prettiest eyes, I bet cut creases look amazing on u!
I’m having more fun with makeup and going to try some more things :)❤
@@mendwithmere Absolutely! Your eyelids are perfect for makeup! I feel like you could pull off any look ❤️
I think when she’s talking about the spell she’s talking about depression. That bridge part is the depression talking.. that it got him. It’s very much seen in other songs.. a man that’s always depressed . Shades of cool .. black beauty.
Your channel has been my favourite place to be lately 😭💛💛💛
Change is another one i wpuld love to see🙏🏽
It’s coming
Been waiting for this love the Lana reactions
❤
One of my favorite songs by her! Top 5 in her discography for sure!! Also I didn’t know she was a Scorpio rising, I am too!!! 🦂
Pleasssse do Violets to Roses and Black Beauty, they’re connected
There's a theory where people say the part of the verse “you should've know better …” it's actually a spell lol
Ahh im so happy you did this one!! Thank you!
Also you’ve got to react to sevdaliza. Her music is very deep, transformative and healing. Her music has a lot of trip hop/experimental vibes with Iranian production
Such a painful song. I love these vocals!
At the brigde is: you are deader than ever, and falling for forever*. Great analysis!
Please do gods and monsters. I love how you break things down and give your touch on what they might mean!
Loved the Honeymoon album
HONEYMOON IS MY FAVORITE
Old money would be a good one to react to! Although it is depressing 😅😭 specifically the second verse when she talks about her mom & dad but it’s still a beautiful song!
Definitely Old Money next!
Please react to the whole album, Honeymoon is my fave album, i think you’re gonna love it too❤
She’s such a Scorpio rising. Lana and I share a Cancer sun (she was born on the summer solstice) and Leo moon 🌙
