  • Defunct Games reviews the new full-motion video game Not For Broadcast by NotGames, available now on PC for $24.99.
Breaking News: Not For Broadcast proves that satire can be done in video games. This is a hilarious and often biting look at the blurring of the lines between news and entertainment. The colorful cast of characters and expert writing sucks us into an alternate world with eerily similar problems and TV shows, allowing us to shape the news and control the masses through propaganda. Dark, subversive and always on point, this is the kind of satire that could only be done as a video game. Not For Broadcast is what Don't Look Up wishes it could be.

I worked as a master controller at a small TV station. It wasn't very fun, I rarely did live switching. Though I can tell you that if you have a 5 second lead in time for live feeds, it can be very difficult to hit I usually jumped the gun and played a few extra seconds of commercials. Day-to-day wasn't terribly boring either. The only time interesting things happened was when someone messed up. We also never used VHSs, just digital video (probably MPEG-1), DVD-RAMs and Betamax.

You might be thinking of Betacam on that last one 😉

I played a few hours of this and it was great. Looking forward to seeing the rest.
My favourite FMV game is The Pandora Directive.

Your commentary is really good and the editing style is easy to watch, you definitely deserve more views and subscribers. Gonna stick around to see you grow!! The game also looks really interesting, I think I'm going to add it to my wishlist

Looks interesting. Innovative in that they didn't just let the narrative of the game start and stop in the editing room.
    QOTD, maybe night trap.

This seems interesting an idea. I may need to check this out. I have a couple of FMV games in my backlog (i.e. The Bunker), I need to bump them up.
QOTD; Terror Trax stuff was way better than it had any right to be. From games that used FMV for more traditional gameplay experience, I have a soft spot for Harvester. That said, I'm still waiting for the epic remaster of the REAL future of gaming, the Full Still Video experience of Plumbers Don't Wear Ties.

That does look interesting, that's for sure. And I do like FMV games, mostly when they get cheesy. May have to look into this. As for the question, oh, so many I like, Night Trap is perfect level of cheese for me, also like Shapeshifting Detective and it's spin off, Dark Night With Poe and Munro. So I'll say any of those 3 could be my answer, just can't pick which one.

Haven't play many FMV games,so for now Erica(on ps4) is pretty good. It's shorter game but you can definitely play multiple times. I think I played 3 or 4 times.

I mean, Wing Commander III and IV were some of the biggest budget games of their time.

Oh yeah, between the famous actors and (reasonably) good special effects, they went all out for those cinemas.
