  • WOODLAWN is a moving and inspirational film based on the true story of Woodlawn High School’s football team in early 1970s Birmingham, Alabama.
Directed by Andrew Erwin and Jon Erwin, the film stars Sean Astin, Jon Voight, Caleb Castille, Sherri Shepherd, DeVon Franklin and C. Thomas Howell. WOODLAWN hits theaters nationwide on OCTOBER 16th.
Tony Nathan (newcomer Caleb Castille), a gifted high school football player, must learn to boldly embrace his talent and his faith as he battles racial tensions on and off the field when he joins fellow African-American students at Woodlawn High School after its government-mandated desegregation in 1973. The team's dedication to love and unity in a school filled with racism and hate leads to the largest high school football game ever played in the torn city of Birmingham, Alabama, and the rise of its first African American superstar.

The way he delivers “because it’s time” is epic for no reason

Great performance by Jon Voight as Coach Bryant. He displayed some of the same mannerisms and delivered a performance that deserved at least a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor.

As a Bama fan who was never got to see the Bear while alive, I like to think that he was really like this in real life. The line "i don't see it like that, I don't have white players and black players, I have football players". Those are words that should echo throughout the world. We don't have white people and black people, we have people. It's a shame we don't seem to have men like this anymore.

He was. Bear was a wonderful man. He really didn't see color. There was one time one of the refs made a racist remark about some of bears players and to say he took it to heart is an understatement.. he was a beautiful man. Very intimidating because of his size mostly but he had a heart of gold!
