The commodities of sheep and iron are not that important, personally i think they lose against the extra wheat and even brick you would otherwise get from a city. What sells the placement is that you get a "free" knight and good paper. Only Wheat is missing for the activation of the knight, which on this board can easily be gotten with the 2nd settlement or trading. Usualy good paper spots mean having trouble getting a first knight and possibly losing your first city. The Inventor on the 5 was a mistake. By taking the 5 you no longer get a science bonus when it hits. Should have gone for the 9. Same statistical likelyhood as 5, but you already have a 9(so you already don´t get science bonus when it hits). The 9 not only means extra ressources from science bonus* but also a better target for alchemist, especially since you are planing on settling twice on the sheep(3:1 port). Also taking the 9 hurts Blue (the one who did not lose a city) much more than 5, because they need wheat/sheep to pair with their extrme production of ore. Taking the 5 wood hurts blue and grey, but grey is AI and already behind thanks to having to rebuild their city. With your edge on paper you also don´t have any reason to fear losing the upcoming metroplis.
When ever I can, I live to put city on a double wood for paper, level four any one resource if the roll is a number I'm not on and not a 7. This is the boardgame not online
Ah yes, you speak of the legendary Science Bonus when you get to Paper City Improvements Level 3. That is a rule in the boardgame and the online version of Catan that you see in this video. I respect your choice to put a city on a 2 wood hexes to start the game off right! Only a few times have I been able to put a city on a triple wood, and those were some great games whenever I was able to do that!

Swap the 3 with the 9, not the 5. You have aqueduct, and produce nothing on 5. Swapping that just meant losing a free card every 5-roll.

I play once a week with friends, if there ever is a triple wood hex, there's a 20% chance someone is putting a city there even with bad numbers. Haha
