duuuude.....im so guilty..i dont know how to play a lick of music but i know that fucking lick.....when i hit it i feel like a musician..there are like 3 renditiopns of this i do to make me sound jazzy on top of some staccato notes./...lol
Which is why I have said for years that most jazz musicians today who keep using these licks are just cliché re-organisers. Why do we think that people who spout spoken clichés are dull and boring while jazz musicians who do the same thing over and over from the greats are some special artists? With a few exceptions today...the majority of jazz musicians are really just classical musicians with a swing feel. Most are trying to play jazz rather than use jazz as medium to express themselves. Jazz today is DOA.
The song at 1:34 is literally called the Lick. We played in my high school jazz band.
Ik
I played it in Middle school
We need a compilation of just Freddie Hubbard playing it for like 10 minutes.
I like how at 1:28 when he does it the whole band’s like awwww cmon lmao
anyone else notice how Freddy Hubbard is in all of these, multiple times?
Poor Freddy taking the hit. Probably he had it in his "lick library" before it was a meme. He did it when it still was original
♫♫♩♫‿◦
Bruh you literally just commented that on all of his videos lmao
Jari Satta facts
C R Y S T A L M Y T H you cant hate him for speaking the truth
0:51 sounds more like 'Stompin at the Savoy' than the Lick
Note the look on the other tenor player's face at 0:48.
Similarly the guy at 1:30 knows exactly what he's doing.
And half the band starts laughing
Holy shit that's my High School band at 0:38

TerezaPlankova This melody is from heaven.

I didn't see chet baker in this. He uses the lick in at least 3 solos

Not really when you listen to their original records! I mean, cats who keep up the tradition have my respect (cause remember jazz is folklore)
