  • Chasing Giants' Don Higgins joined Jared and Jeremy on the HUNTR Podcast. Don, who is a writer, creator of Real World Wildlife Products, whitetail consultant, and the list keeps going. One thing for sure is that Mr. Higgins knows how to harvest giant whitetails. Tune into this podcast to listen to the guys talk about chasing giants, hunting the wind, being patient. Later in this episode, watch Jared and Jeremy's reaction to Don's footage of Mel (which is the 6th biggest typical whitetail in the Pope & Young).
Follow the link below to watch the full film of Don's journey to harvesting Mel:

HUNTR is the project we should have started years ago. It's our excuse to work less and hunt more. We're not the world's greatest hunters by any means but we're not afraid to get aggressive and learn from our mistakes. From northeastern whitetails to western muleys, we're dreaming up hunts, putting in for tags, finding ground, and doing everything in our power to get it done.
Podcasts drop Tuesday nights, season 1 drops fall 2021, & there's merch in the store if you dig our stuff!
We want to hear from you! Whether you've got a story to share, a question for the guys, or want to tell us what we're doing wrong, it's all good.

Dons right. Outa staters came and flooded Illinois and shoot too many 120" 130' 140" deer cuz there big compared to where they come from. But our age structure did take a hit but the outfitters here are starting to struggle. Im blessed my parents and uncles all bought hundreds of acres in the 90's before everyone lost their properties they had permission to hunt. People call my family crazy for buying properties. Then a few yesrs later, they wished they had bought some. Now not many people can afford it.

Ohios 'rifle season' is only pistol caliber cartridges...that are larger than .357, and can not be more than 2" over all cartridge length...and all must be strait wall cartridges...so not your traditional 'high power' rifles. So it is mostly 350 legend and 450 Bushmaster that we see here. Some guys will use the .44 mag lever guns...but if Ohio allowed traditional rifles I'd be pretty pissed. And I agree, baiting should not be legal during seasons. Pre season bait piles, and food plots only. Mineral sites too are fine in my opinion... but I'd rather have it not legal to hunt withing 250 feet of a mineral site. Just my .02 on how to make it better here.

Great Job. No doubt the DNR has no interest in improving wildlife habitat. The DNR is about as anti-wildlife habitat diversity as you can get. Their idea of whitetail management is giving multiple tags to hunters for a cost to prevent crop damage and auto damage. They have very little to do with enhancing wildlife.
