Legend.still got sham69 tattooed on my neck.from back in the seventies. Great band great lyrics. was at the Hersham cafe the other day.jimmy is a good man.and does alot for retired greyhounds up his way.
Last seen them at the Railway Tavern in Burnham On Sea in about 2010, Ginger Hitlas were the warm up, we all had a lovely scrap when they came on - jeez! I’m 60 now but it was great fun!
I am 50 now. I bought their album when I was 18. The lyrics of this song are not old at all. The banks are operating like this. The message is: Fuck them! and this message is very alive nowadays. Now I know why I was punk when I was young.I still am
If I ran an Actor's Studio - you know those places where they study and work on the craft of acting - I wouldn't have the students perform Hamlet's "to be or not to be" soliloquy. No, that's lightweight stuff. What I would do is I'd transcribe Jimmy's speech at the beginning of this video and have all the students do their interpretations of it.
I was there , brilliant to have been a skinhead back then great times , no social media nothing back then , just the phone box to call your dad to come and pick you up

There was about 30 skins in there that night, a mixture of mainly Westham & Arsenal up against about 500+ punks. The more Pursey said stop fighting the more they did it. Being a lot older, he'd just forgotten what went on in the brains of a lot of 17 year olds at that time. To them fighting was enjoying yourself. I don't think he had any reason to complain. It was his decision to exploit and whip up the difficulties and problems that teenagers faced living in the seventies, by way of his stance and songs. He should of been a Social Worker rather than an entertainer because I don't think the two mix well.
"I'm sick of making speeches all the time. Every time I'm coming to a gig I have to make a fucking speech about fighting. Every fucking time. You ought to think he's out to do these fucking speeches and think "oooh he don't mean it, he's only doing it because it makes him look bigger" you know what I mean. I don't wanna keep saying "stop fighting, stop fighting". Just fucking enjoy yourselves for a change". Think I got that right. My excuse is that I'm norwegian, ugh
The only problem mr Pursey ia that that song give more and more anger and hate to fight bastards like 99% of the fucking human being... Am I CORRECT?! Or I'm drunk like you when you said all that and vanished!?!
@harpo10 Pursey also encouraged third-generation punk bands like the Cockney Rejects, and Angelic Upstarts...these absolute-shit-status bands effectively killed off the original values of true punk...and Pursey was instrumental in bringing about the demise of punk.
@harpo10 no, I can't stand the Nazis...an evil bunch. However, Pursey was despised by the original punks for jumping on the punk bandwagon [he wasn't a true punk original] and he leapt around like an idiot in a Hawaiin shirt..Pursey lowered the tone of punk, and he was an embarrassment to it, which is why I 'chinned' him in '78.
@trixiek942 1978 was a personal great year for me, Trix, and after bedding many delicious young babes, putting one over a prat like Pursey was at that particular point in time was the icing on the cake./

Scrounging through record stores for their imports in the 80s, and now live concert footage streaming to my phone. Man I love this band.

This message so relevant again today.
Oh God ..this is just superb !! Thank you for posting one of the best British punk anthems ever ..cheers !!
52 here brother...damn right this song is still relevant...maybe even more so now.
This is one of their best songs.
I love Sham 69.
Oh, this brings back memories of gigs at that time, sweaty pushing and shoving , loads of energy with the air that it could kick off at any moment.

Jimmy was the real deal. Sham 69 were a much more important band then they get credit for. Often unfairly misaligned.

That's the best idea I've heard in years!
God help the students.
I guess if you kindly write it down for me. I'm Italian and I didn't got every word in it. Feel ashamed, but this is it. Thanks in anticipation.
@@danielemeytre4010 Jimmy is basically angry about having to stop fans fighting at their concerts.
@@VincentRE79 so nice from you. I've even found in the comments someone who have actually written down that intro for a deaf one.
Arguably the best introduction to a song EVER. Ironically for a song that could also be argued as one of the most prophetic EVER to.......
The band influences my work.

Even though it was Lip-Synched, They STILL KICKED ASS!!!😊🖤🎸🏴☠️🎼🎵🎶🥁🔥💣💥💨
It's just a pity that some punks couldn' t see the need for this kind of punk rock.
Even more-so that today's punks completely support the establishment these kids had the wherewithal to see through in the '70s.
Skrewdriver was better
Met Jimmy back in the late 80s when I was living in Hersham.Nice guy
Dave Parson's sound on guitar is so lovely.
