It would be great to speak to Johnny about Liverpool. As a Liverpool supporter from Liverpool, it’s great listening to him as he’s got so much history he knows personally.

Keep it going lads - even enjoying a Liverpool episode and I am a United fan! Johnny has a great recollection of those times and what got those great teams the success they had.

It was harsh but what Liverpool did was right after Shanks left. He was turning up at training still while Paisley was trying to do it his way. Shanks was asked not to appear anymore and it was indeed harsh, but it allowed Paisley to press on and he brought Liverpool forward. Busby was allowed to stay, kept his office and was still too involved and it was confusing for players. Utd are doing it again with Ferguson, allowing him to keep involvement with the team and it doesn't work. A clean cut is needed.

Shankly did build the foundations. Johnny Giles was right, Liverpool was the place to be as a city and a club.

One has to wonder how different history would have been had Clough not completely lost the Leeds boys in the first meeting. They obviously knew what he had said about them prior so it would have been dishonest and disingenuous had Brian come in with their flowers, but had he just taken a bit of a bridge building tact it could have been a continuation of the halcyon days for Leeds. They were already a great team, he wasn’t going for promotion. He may have been there long enough for Peter Taylor to maybe join him. What could have been…

Shanks even had a subbuteo settin his living room, so even on his day off from a game he’d be playing subbuteo (:

You cant blame it all on Brian Clough for Leeds downfall, he was only there 44 days!!

No mention of Shankly's socialist politics.
