Vince Guaraldi Group for the intro music? As usual, your videos are getting better and better and your 8-bit expertise is above standard!

Many thanks! I will have to go and check the music; I downloaded a number of royalty-free tunes specifically for TH-camrs and simply pick what sounds right at the time. :)

While I am always impressed with the repairs, I cannot help but notice the improvement in the quality of the production itself. You have your video's "personality" and "look" down rock solid now.
As to the obvious display of satire at the end (which I enjoyed), I have decided to go the "rave" method with my useless mask emitting a plethora of LED fed color. That alone gives me a greater than two meter spacing.

Thanks Richard: I appreciate the sentiment very much. :) I've ordered the cantilever microphone arm which I talked about in the video (again, thanks to the excellent Adamant IT channel for the idea), and I'm quite excited about this since it will allow much more variety when it comes to close-up camera angles.

Have you ever tried low temp solder to remove chips and sockets? It works great for me, and comes with the benefit of not putting too much heat on those of boards, which can destroy traces, and it doesn't destroy the chips or sockets.

I have, and I resolutely prefer max temps for almost every situation now. Labouring over desoldering jobs with low temps just puts more stress on things in my personal experience. I turn everything up and control heat application with speed/distance. Since adopting this method, pulled traces and damaged vias are an extreme rarity. Everyone's personal experience differs, of course, but hot is what works for me.

I'm curious why you didn't slide another barrel socket under the Sophia board to allow it to clear the other socketed chip you de-socketed. I always try to avoid removing sockets.

Because this would have caused the Sophia board to block the underside of the keyboard and thus prevent the lid from closing. One could probably source a zero-height socket for the smaller chip, but given the fact you'll only want to remove it if it fails, it seems like a solution in need of a problem.

      @@flashjazzcat Understood. As an onlooker - I can't tell clearances :-)

@@JimVeneskey Of course. If a stacked socket would have fit, I would have surely taken the easier path.
