@@KignofDiggins Molly's career has brought her to a lot of Sony projects so that's my guess. The GG team asked Sony Japan if there's an english fluent talent that's able to perform death growls and her agent got hit up by the Sony America branch.
Nothing could of prepared me for "Rub a dub dub yeah" in a death metal song but it works so well for Elphelt because she's washing away her past and embracing her humanity
Cool detail, that on 4:24 you can hear that this part is very similar to "all I want for christmas is you". Idk if this was done on purpose, but it's cool because Elphelt's birthday is on 25th December
I recommend listening to "Marionette", Elphelt's Xrd theme. Extras paid homage to the song with the solo in the middle, just like how Holy Orders (Ky's theme) is referenced in both his and Sin's theme in Strive. Also fun fact, Molly Daisy Scarpine is the singer in Extras and was brought on board because they needed a female vocalist who can hit those death growls since it's supposed to be Elphelt singing her own theme.
Lol naw im pretty sure its because they were specifically looking for an english singer. If thats what it was there are plenty Japanese female metal singers that can do cleans and growls.
@@cius2112 I was just trying to convey that the team was looking for a female vocalist outside of NAOKI/Aisha who is able to perform a death growl. I'm sure that you're right that they sought after someone who was fluent in english too but that doesn't invalidate what I said man.
You didn't say outside of those singers in the original comment tho my dude, It read as tho they were looking for ANYONE who could make those growls and was female .
The operatic part is very similar to Amazing Grace, which is used in many things including weddings, which fits Elphelt as she is very romantic and always searching for marriage ever since she was introduced in the older games Strive updated Elphelt’s story by having her also become a metal pop idol leading a band called Speothos Venaticus, who wrote this song to be her wedding anthem
Holy shit, to think I'd just find this comment buried on a random channel watching the song. The hook in this song is so ridiculous, you absolutely killed it. It's 2024 and I've been walking around humming the rub a dub melody for days.
Fun Fact: The line "I'm scared of the laughter, but," has almost the same melody as a line in Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' (the line 'I just want you for my own' in the pre-chorus, FYI). This was intentional for two reasons: Elphelt was born on Christmas Day, and Elphelt is obsessed with the concept of love and marriage, which is a recurring theme in Carey's song.
I've listened to Extras for practically the last week straight, love the theme and I'm glad you dig it too. The Mariah Carey bar in the clean verse is such a neat call out to the character's christmas birthday. I would love to hear how the collab for this song came together because Molly Daisy Scarpine did amazing.
@@Dizzyphelt I know, now, I didn't when I wrote this. When I wrote the comment I didn't want to say it as a fact because I've been wrong about things too many times. I try to be careful
All vocals are performed by the same woman: Molly Daisy. She is the lead singer of the Hyper Psychic band, as well as a mocap actress for Days Gone and The Last of Us game series.
I've been so obsessed with this song since the character dropped. The clashing vocals in sync just scratches an itch in my brain, the same itch that the duet parts of Necessary Discrepancy did. But while Necessary Discrepancy drops the duet for the purpose of telling its own story (which is fine) this song keeps the dual vocals almost the whole time and it's just so cool Elphelt Valentine debuted in Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN, and according to her and Ky she just kind of showed up one day to his castle. She says she was in the middle of getting married to a death metal singer when her programing activated and she began to seek out Ky (was supposed to be Sol, but I guess she was just seeking out anyone who had one of the seeds). She's a Valentine like her sister Ramlethal, and was created by the Universal Will. She's super bubbly and hyper compared to Ramlethal and she has this little gimmick where she carries around a marriage certificate and tries to marry her opponent. Her instant kill is cupids arrow but it's a sniper bullet lol. She fights with an arsenal of guns and bombs, but despite what people assume she's fully a rushdown character. In Xrd SIGNs story her code causes her to betray the group but Sol snaps her out of it before The Universal Will takes her away, with Ramlethal promising her she's coming to get her. The Universal Will tries to fuse Elphelt with Justice to end the universe but Sol and gang show up and Jack-O takes Elphelts place in the fusion. After the whole ordeal Ram and El both lived as daughters to Ky and Dizzy, and sisters to Sin. Ramlethal joined the Illyrian army, Elphelt was given a job in the government too but she couldn't keep up which made her feel guilty so she ran away and found her calling with music, so now SHE is the death metal singer, and Extras is canonically one of the songs she's written and performed. Elphelt (the whole trio of Sin El and Ram honestly, Xrds story with them is so peak) is one of my favorite characters in the series, and I love seeing her progression in Strive
'Feels different to the other songs we've listened to recently' it feels like a throwback to Drift and it's edgier cousin The Gravity with the mental whiplash
Genuinely shocked more people didn't notice that the bridge was literally just "Amazing Grace." A very appropriate song to reference, given it's about spiritual liberation (and also physical liberation, since it was originally a song written by a slave trader turned abolitionist).
she actually just came out like a week ago so nice timing, and she's the perfect metal wife i've always dreamed of also am i the only one who heard Mariah Carey singing Last Christmas in the clean vocal part
Sadly, this lyrics video does have a few errors in it. For example: The one line is "I was just a little LOST" not "I was just a little VOICE" and there are a few others like that. (Still big ups to the uploader for making it, to error is to be human afterall)
"I was just a little lost" also probably wraps into the Amazing Grace portion later in the song (Amazing grace! how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch; like me! I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see.)
It truly is a statement to how good this song is that it made me love it , a man who LOATHES heavy metal growls , with them being almost always my least favorite part of a song or sometimes making me straight up dislike a song , like Smell of the game (yes , yes , I know , you can crucify me later)
Daisuke on his way to make a song you don’t like but end up loving in the future (it’s Daisuke’s curse or magic or some shit I can think of multiple songs I didn’t like at first that are now my favourites)
Molly Daisy Scarpine is a videogame voice actress famous for growling and playing zombie-ish characters it wouldn't surprise me if she was responsible for all of the vocals in the song.
"Rub a dub dub" comes from a nursery rhyme found in the second volume of "Christmas Box" by James Hook. Considering that "All I Want For Christmas", "Amazing Grace", and "Hallelujah" are referenced, as well as her birthday being christmas, yeah it's pretty likely to be Rub a Dub Dub.
Reminder that this song has exactly one singer.
