We're leaving Kerala - an emotional goodbye to our Indian dream life

- We moved to Kerala towards the end of 2019 right after our marriage. It was going to be the first house we would be living together as a married couple. Soon after we moved to our house in a small village in the north of Kerala, the lockdown happened. This meant that we got to spend some quality time together and create a lot of memories. And not just memories, we also welcomed our daughter Annika into this world in our idyllic surroundings. It was therefore quite sad to leave all this behind and move to a much bigger city like Mumbai. All the memories from our life came flooding and it was a very emotional goodbye for us all...

Your daughter will relive and cherish her kerala memories through your youtube diaries. She is lucky to have awesome parents and grandparents.
This brought back so many memories. My dad was in the army and every time we moved it was heartbreaking. And with every home and every city we left behind, a tiny part of us stayed there forever..
It’s a difficult line of job/life indeed! Guess there needs to be balance since it’s such a great, admirable job too 😊
@@JohannaNorth Absolutely agree with you. It's especially hard on the family and there definitely needs to be a balance.
Whishing you and family "all the best" god bless lot, come again..... 🌹🙏🏿❤😭
Your house in Kerala with all that greanery ,beach, wild life, clean and fresh air .....is so wonderful.....
Its really a paradice ......❤
That is so true!
We Malayalis say once we step out of Kerala then we realise its true value. But "we leave home to make home". Its ok. Kerala is always your home. Who knows probably you will buy a retirement home here in future. Till then work hard and enjoy.
Kerala is Islamic state...

This made me cry. Beautiful, poetic video!
Kerala played a pivotal role in your life.
Thank you for appreciating our culture and adjusting to our limited resources over there in payyannur.
Pls come again
I can understand how mixed feelings you hv while shifting.we too shift frequently but believe me you will adjust within 6 months in new location. Bombay is the best for you. Wish you all the best
I’d come back to Payyanur just for Mutthazham really 😍
I know exactly the feeling if so much sadness. Kerala is so beautiful, green n peaceful. I hv been there n miss it all.
Your videos are always so atmosperic and beautiful. Thank you. This time I had tears in my eyes. I’ve been watching your videos almost from the beginning of your channel and they are my favorites on TH-cam. Greetings from a german - persian couple
Thank you so much, you made my day 🥹❤️
I started watching your videos when you were pregnant. At that point even I was pregnant and back at my home in Kerala. Felt like your Annika and my son grew up together. All the best to you new life and will miss watching your quiet Kerala life😃
Oh thats so heartwarming! Thank you for sharing ❤
Yes it's home i understand that bcos my father had bank job and we were constantly shifting from one city to another. Now as a mature person i look those shifting in beautiful memories. Mumbai is fast paced but it's rewarding in many ways. Lot's of love to amazing toddler Annika ❤
Hopefully that’s a mindset Annika will also be able to develop later. 😊 For now, she’s still a bit upset about leaving Kerala
@JohannaNorth may be that's why I connect with her so much, children are sensitive and develop feelings easily. Changes make us sad ( as i am earth sign ) till you feel comfortable in new surroundings. With you around Annika will be always chattery 😄 , explorer and highly confident. Pls plan a meet up ❤️.
Nice collection of all old memories. Anika cute words so mesparising. We are all proud of you adopting to Indian enviranment. Best wishes in your new endovers at Mumbai.
No doubt you lived in the most beautiful part of South India. It is hard to leave the house where our children grow up. Lots of memories! All the best ! In Mumbai!,
I wouldve also preferred never leaving my own childhood home and living there with my own family, but then i wouldve never had Vinod and Annika ❤ letting go is sooo hard but hopefully we always get great things in return!
Hi Johanna, I am late watching this vlog as I had a little one of my own last year and life got busier. I had tears in my eyes. I have watched every single of your vlogs until recently and I remember all the moments you shared in this video. I felt so emotional, so can’t even imagine what you all must have felt. But I am sure you have new wonderful adventures waiting for you in Mumbai. Lots of love 💗
It was such a special time in Kerala, I'll always treasure those memories!
And I'm sure you're making wonderful memories with your little one too which you'll cherish ❤️. Life does get super busy once they start running around the house
Ah sad to see you leaving beautiful and peaceful place in Kerala, sometime Indian big cities will be just overwhelming and chaotic which is a total contrast, but at the same time there are lots more opportunities and a mix of various cultures could be seen at one place.
Couldn’t have put it better myself 😊
Sad but yet wonderful experience ahead for you and annika and Vinod . So you are in Finland now when you left Kerala it was like sooo sad as if we lived there with you and you are leaving us all.
Strange we live overseas so apart but through videos and media connection we feel we are on your journey ..
Hope you all the best.
Regards and hugs to your sister and mom. What a humble family you got there
Thank you for sharing both your family lives and Annika's growing up years too. I had a glimpse of life in Kerala and it was a wonderful journey from your lens. God bless. Looking forward to more videos of your times in Mumbai. Good for Annika. Place her in a good school. Doesn't matter the distance if school buses are there. Gonna take her.a long way in life.
It is heart wrenching but Annaika is going to one day cherish all the places she lived in. My dad was so so lucky to work with Birlas _ this saw us be transferred every few years. Savour every trip to a new destination in India from North to South, East to West. You will love Mumbai too
It’s the same for us, the need to relocate every few years. We were very lucky to have a long tenure in Kerala! And hopefully there won’t be very many transfers in the cards for us anymore.
Best Wishes to Johanna, Vinod, Annikka. Enjoy your life in Mumbai. From Kannur
Moving is so much work and that too with a kid. We moved across states when my daughter was one. Good luck with everything. I hope you find good friends there.
I hate moving, it is soooo stressful! Next time if there is a transfer, I’ll go to Jaipur with Annika and let Vinod handle it alone since he knows how to manage the process most efficiently and then we dont end up fighting about it 😅
Beautiful video. Very sad that you have to leave this place where you have had so many beautiful memories. I do hope that all of you will be able to come back again some day. Thank you for sharing this with us. ❤
We’ll need to go back for our favourite food if for nothing else! 😅
Goodbyes are always heart wrenching but the memories created in that time live on and are not determined by distance and space. Good luck to Annika, Vinod and you, Johanna as you embark on another episode of life.
Thank you so much for your well wishes! ❤
Best of luck in your new home and location. Great videos i had tears.
Thank you so much for the well wishes 🙏
From peaceful and scenic kerala to total a chaos, welcome to Mumbai
May bhagwan keep u Johanna anniqa and vinod safe always
Very sad that you are going away
Especially for Annika it will be a very confusing change.
Here in Kerala, the sights, sounds and smells is what she has got used to .
Mumbai with its cramped spaces and fast paced life will be difficult for a child as sensitive as Annika to get adjusted to.
I wish her a happy future.
Come back to Kerala any time you like. We will miss you.
Bon voyage.
It’s a difficult change for sure. But might be more so for Vinod and I 😅 Annika does still mention Kerala and her friends there every now and then, but she’s a real trooper and focuses on all the fun she has in Mumbai!
@@JohannaNorth
So happy for Annika. Wonderful the way she has adjusted to the new place. God bless her with every happiness❤️
Best wishes to Johanna, Vinod, Annika for a happy life in Mumbai. Enjoy the life where ever you live. From Kannur
Beautiful video😊
You already hv abundant memories to cherish abt Kerala. Annika is lucky to hv spent her initial years here in the middle of wonderful nature and let's hope she gets to visit the place again someday..
We hope so too 😊
Happy Memories , I do miss my town in Kerala ...
wonderful watching your videos specially Annika............
Welcome to Mumbai 🎉🎉
All the best to you all
Yours is Veru nice family
Proper indian acent she speaks 😊
I really like your videos.
For me it seems to have some kind of calm vibe, nature, life in general.
I am from Kerala and interested to see Mumbai from your vlogs.
Everywhere I believe there is good and bad and maybe the intensities differ.
May God bless 👍🏻.
All the best for future ❤ from Kerala
Such are wonderful memories you have of Kerala
Best memories 😊
Such a beautiful video. I have been following your journey since the beginning. All the best to you and your family ! Will miss seeing parts of Payyanur and Kannur district in your videos; a place that I consider home.
We’ll be missing it too for a long time for sure and watching our old videos to reminisce those good old days!
It is good to move to a new place every five years- new adventure, new environment, new friends etc....makes life interesting
It’s an adventure for sure, but hopefully we dont have to keep doing that for the rest of our lives 😅
We’re all visitors to this earth
Waiting to see your new home in Mumbai Johanna, soon
Beautiful heart touching blog, Annica is grown, welcome to Mumbai.. Best wishes...❤
Very emotional vlog, but this place is very beautiful. Wish you all the best for your second destination and hope with lots of new things in life. Stay blessed and keep smiling always ❤
What a kid!!! God bless her.
You have such a adjusting nature. Adjusting with different types of people climate food, culture. Annika is as usual cute.
😊 thank you, but i assure you i do struggle too!
So sweet and emotional. God bless you all
It's bringing tears in my eyes too. Wishing you a happy journey ... Life itself is a great journey. Wishing you all the Best from the core of my heart.
Thank you so much for your heartwarming wishes 🙏
As a maharastrian who has lived and now abroad, Mumbai is brutal yet human, it will love you as much as you give it love, if U want to see the real humanity Mumbai is for you, Kerala is laid back like Goa is yet life is cool, but Mumbai will shock you from day one. Embrace it as it is and you will love it totally. Good Luck
Thank you for the well wishes and tips! 😊
Thank you so much Johanna for the wonderful, emotional farewell to your precious home. Wishing you all a most rewarding life in the city. I look forward to continuing along that road with you & hope you will not be long in keeping up with video of the journey. I have missed seeing Annika so very much. You must know how uncle Blair loves you all. Give Annika a hug & kiss for me. 💋❤
Stay blessed. Love from Kerala❤️
Contente d'avoir de vos nouvelles. Bye bye Kerala. Bonne chance dans votre nouvelle vie.
Annika we are missing you... God bless you dear 🥰🥰
God bless your family.. your Kerala day's.. great memories..
That's gonna be another challenge for you and baby. Mumbai is chaotic and not that hygienic, it also depends on where you live. Good luck to your family.
Got so emotional watching it, as I am a mumbaikar I welcome you with all my heart
Thank you so much 🙏
Really an emotional vedio😢 I started watching your vlog because of your connection with payyannur, a place close to my heart. It was a vedio before your pregnancy I think. So all ur memories abt this house was my memories too, with you guys. Feel like you are going away from us keralites. But don't worry where ever u go in this world you can find a malayali there😅😅😅
All the best for you new beginning 😊😊😊
I think Mumbai has a pretty big malayali community 😊 but definitely miss our home in Kerala even still, and Annika still sometimes talks about like she thinks that’s our home and we’re going back there soon 😢❤ …which we might do just for a Mutthazham fish meal!
@@JohannaNorth Aww🥺
Blessings and good luck in your new home and lives in Mumbai.
Beautiful VDO. I saw your vlog after a long time and therefore very happy to seeold familier faces. Your VDOs have always been my favourate. You guys are moving to Mumbai in Maharashtra state which is my state . Welcome to Maharashtra and Mumbai. God bless your family.
I’m so happy to hear that, thank you! 🙏
It is a bit heart-wrenching to move from a place you called "home", but as you rightly observed you're going to create new memories and maybe a new home which is going to be equally endearing. In a way, you might be creating richer memories! Imagine yourself a few decades from now looking back on a colourful mosaic of memories, which may not even have been possible without these moves. In short, variety is the spice of life and embrace it!
Well, it’s definitely an adventure story for a future biography! I do hope that we dont need to move much more in this life though 😅
Missed you guysand the little one. Hope u all are fine god bless.
We’re well thank you 🙏
You are always welcome. ❤
Wow going from that Paradise to Concrete jungle in Mumbai. But ya, each place has its own pull.
Hi Johanna vinod and Annika, most welcome to Mumbai, have a happy and fast life in Mumbai 🎉💐❤️
Moving from Kerala to Mumbai is simply awesome in some ways… from calm n peaceful life to very busy city life where u find everything different, so it’s good you may not feel that missing for many days as you find yourself too busy in Mumbai…that’s life… njoy ur new city
Well at least for us it seems to be quite a lengthy adjustment process and we do still miss Kerala… but i’m sure we’ll eventually settle well into Mumbai and enjoy it even more than now 😊
@@JohannaNorth yes I do know you miss Kerala a lot, but you will be soon step into Mumbai's busy life, so those remain as sweet memories...
Wherever you here be safe n Happy 😊
I remember watching your videos way back .rushing around to get some kind of license and moving to your new home
Pregnancy announcement and crazy weather videos
I wish you all the best in your new home .
Hi Pauline! Good to see your comment after a while and thank you for your wellwishes! 🙏❤️
@JohannaNorth hi sorry I haven't been on too much. My mental health as taken a dip. I'm trying to do meditation which I need to make more time for. ❤
After long period you are back.Anika baby grown up lots of blessings.
Sad you are going from here ....
The greenary fresh air and all pleasent moments
Anyways all the very best
This video has brought out every single emotion I could think of...i became a subscriber when I was doing random searches during my 17 days isolation with covid in the very initial wave here in the States.. if I recall I was trying to find out which area of the world might be a better place to live in if the covidl thing continues unabated.. so I started searching knowing Finland was the happiest country I said Indians in Finland.. and Google magic brought me to Finns in India.. the rest, as they say, is history. :-)
Best to Annika as always.. are we still waiting for Vinod's vlog where he speaks fluent Finnish😂?!
And I forgot to add, very very classy editing...
That’s some pretty spectacular magic from Google considering we Finns are not that many here in india! But did you know that the Indian community makes one of the largest minorities in Finland these days? 🤯 Vinod keeps practising Finnish though, even if he might be able to survive in Finland just with English and Hindi 😅
Going to miss Kerala.. my fav place
Wishing you all the best for your new life in Mumbai.❤😊
Sorry to see you all leave Payyannur. Glad you are taking with you memories that you will cherish a lifetime. Well, time to move on from a quiet paced life to a more hectic bustling city. Enjoy the journey that is life and create good memories wherever it takes you. And, if memories and nature beckons you, Kerala is an overnight train ride away.
We need to do Kerala trips in the future for sure!
Karela is a beautiful state. Sad that- U r- leaving it. BUT that's life. All the best for your beginning of life in Mumbai .🙏🙏🙏🙏
Kerala is heaven ❤ but hopefully we’ll find pieces of heaven somewhere else too 😊
I totally understand why Annika is angry as much as u try to explain to her. My daughter who us abroad too had the same issues with her twins. Kids get affected the most n it's really really sad
Annika had really good friends in Kerala and she loved our house help there! 🥹 she’s now slowly making new friends thankfully
Best wishes ❤ Annika we are missing you❤🎉
May bhagwan bless u with many more healthy and normal kidz love u guys keep on making more videos like this ❤😂😅
As a person who shifted 31 times in life i can understand the way how she feel now, and for sure don'tv have a wish to stay in congested city
Very touching emotional video! You moved to Mumbai few months back right!? I remember you answering my question about the place where you live in Mumbai. Iam from Kerala, but i live in Mumbai. Hope Annika is happy and adjusted with her new life in Mumbai! 😊❤
Yes, we live in Mumbai now, but the adjustment is taking longer than anticipated 😊
@@JohannaNorthHmm can understand, I too faced the same, when I moved in 20 years ago! 😊

Did u know Kerala is officially changing its name to Keralam . The way we say it in malayalam. All the best for your future endeavours!
Yes, i’ve read about it in the news 😊
All the best for ur new life
Such a beautiful video!! You and Vinod created such a warm and welcoming home in Payyanur. N of course the birth of Annika in the Kerala home makes it even more a special place filled with love n memories to last a lifetime. Thank you for sharing it with us. ❤
Am sure Mumbai will also welcome you all with open arms and you can create your cosy home with more memories to be created.
Mumbai is definitely welcoming, but our home is a big work in progress and thus our adjusting too! We could’ve done some better choices about our living situation and there have been some other unrelated issues too this year which has made it a rather challenging move and we’ve missed Kerala a lot 🥹
One couldn't get a more strong contrast in living environments. One the one hand you have the quiet Ezhimala Naval Academy with its stunning greens and views , the unpolluted air and the less frenzied, less hurried, less expensive, more space, more quiet and more content way of life.
On the other hand we have one of the most populous bustling cities in the world, constantly full of traffic, movement, sounds, sights and let's not forget smells 😂.The big city Mumbai comes with conveniences and creature comforts but you also only see concrete, glass and urban squalor with stark contrasts in living standards between rich and poor. Life is more mechanical, everyone seems to be in a rush and placing more importance on the material .
The invisible hand of fate moves in strange ways...Sometimes it feels like we're not in control of where we're heading...That is when moving feels more like uprooting...
It’s a huge change for sure, and uprooting is quite accurate of a word to describe it. Kerala still feels more like home to be honest. We don’t have a permanent house yet in Mumbai so maybe the sentiment of home will come with that. 😊
Waiting to watch this😃
Hope you enjoy it! 🙏
waiting eagerly 😊
