I have heard so many famous and accomplished pianists play Chopin's Aeolian Harp, but you, Mr. Barton through your creative soul, bring so much beauty and mastery to this piece I cannot say enough words to praise your rendition. Your mastery of the una corda, sostenuto and damper pedals are so skillfully applied I can honestly say that I have never heard them used so effectively and creatively by another pianist. Growing up my Mother played a Steinway baby grand piano and I was raised with all this beautiful classical music playing through our Bronx apartment, and I loved it, especially the Chopin pieces, so this particular piece is near and dear to my heart. Thank you so much for posting this video, it is a true Chopin treasure beautifully performed and to be cherished by many viewers for years to come.
Paul, you are simply incredible. Your mastery is breathtaking to watch and it all is done with seemingly great ease. I am also impressed how you memorize so many pieces! BRAVO! ~Jackie
I have listened to many versions of the Chopin Aeolian Harp piece by many piano virtuoso's including the great Vladmir Horowitz, but I have to admit that I like your interpretation best above them all. I keep your video pinned on my pc and play it everyday to uplift me. Bravo.
I am currently learning this piece, extremely challenging but the first results are just breathtaking when you start making it at speed. Start slowly and get inspired by this video, in my opinion the best one for this piece, especially for the fingerings and the interpretation quality. Thank you so much Paul !
Astounding technique of course, but what strikes me is that your voicing is just lovely, so much feeling and depth in your playing, thank you so much for sharing this with us!

That seems as if you do these as hobby and passion. And this causes me envy you, not evil intended of course, admiration is better to say.
I know it must be hard to believe I could make a living at it but actually my "job" is artist, and always has been since I left art school 35 years ago. I mainly painted portraits on commission during my life until I moved to Thailand 10 years ago to look after family. I've posted very few of my paintings online due to the privacy requirements of my portrait clients. Along with painting and drawing I also make bronze sculpture and occasionally exhibitions of darkroom based black and white landscape photography. I like to play piano music too as you've kindly noticed, but I guess you would say I just play piano for pleasure. I began TH-cam 8 and a half years ago when TH-cam offered a new way to share our interests with others and I liked the idea of being part of an online piano community. I've occasionally played solo piano recitals here and there but prefer being an accompanist to a singer or instrumentalist - I find that a lot of fun. I can assure you I don't do anything well enough for you to be even slightly envious of or indeed to merit admiration, but I do appreciate your kind comment and wish you luck with all you are doing.

Masterfully done! I've been working on this piece for a year and you can't even hear the melody because I can't play it fast enough 😂 I'm at like 20% speed. I will keep at it. Thank you for the stellar example.
Heya Heidi - Don't worry if you're only playing it at 20% speed right now - it's a wonderful finger exercise and try playing it so that every note is depressed and don't worry about interpretation that'll come after you've mastered the basic technique but really make sure that you hit the those melody notes really firmly so they sing out. Play it sometimes with no pedal - that'll really accent your weak spots and aim eventually for the same tempo as Paul. His and Rubinstein's are for me anyway the best performances as they allow the beautiful romanticism that the piece cries out for to shine through. Good luck and stick at it xxx Alan

I have been playing piano for the last 2 years and four months now (first year being with a teacher but total lessons not over about 7 hours, second year with no teacher and the last couple months I have been training with a composition teacher but she checks my playing every now and then). the last four months I have played the following pieces: 1. Rachmaninoff's prelude in c sharp minor (have learnt until the big chords part after the fast part for I had no time to tackle that part because I had an upcoming recital and had to practice other pieces.) 2. Schubert's Serenade piano accompaniment for cello 3. Sibelius's the Spruce 4. And for the last month I have been practicing Clair de lune and now I am at the calmato part where there are two repeating notes for the bass line. I know that it surely is quite early to start this piece but I've been composing a piece of my own and it is similar in style to this etude, both containing arpeggios in both hands simultaneously, thus I would like to now if anyone would care to give their opinion on whether I should start this piece.
yeah, no difficulty when playing with one hand because you can direct your eyes to the key to jump to, but with both hands, it's just muscle memory and accuracy
How would this one be for someone with pretty small hands? I can barely reach an octave. Would this be a realistic piece to pursue at any point? I can do Op. 10 No. 1 okay at 2/3s speed
If your hands can just reach an octave with a little effort, then you should still be able to play 25/1 as you can reach everything you need to play flexing your wrists, as you've discovered in 10/1. Other Op.25 Etudes you'll find comfortable to play are Op.25/2 and 25/6 and 7. Also, well done for Op.10/1 at 2/3s speed!
