I’ve only just worn my first kilt outfit. Vids like these are helping me figure things out on what I want to do and what I should avoid. Have you considered a “rate my kit” segment? Get the community to send in pics? Maybe formal, semi and casual divisions? Might be fun lol
My first sporran was a black leather, white fur (bovine), three silver tasseled semi-dress.... I find that it covers BOTH day and evening wear (minus FULL black-tie dress)... and to this day, THAT is what I recommend especially to new kilters.. Later when money allows, you can get a full brown-leather day one, and then a full-fur, canteled dress one. At that point you're completely covered.
For me I only wear a sporran at special occasions… If I’m just running around town or going to the movies and the likes I use a Satchel across my back.
I have a brown leather sporran with my silver Regimental badge in the centre that I wear for day wear. I have a silver mounted sealskin semi dress sporran that I wear to more formal events, and for black tie events I have a gold topped horse hair sporran with Regimental crest that I wear with PC jacket red vest, argyle hose and just for Rocky, buckle brogues.
Desert Island Sporran? Hmmmmmm I would have to choose a Beaver Fur Dress Sporran (which would make an awesome pillow - not to mention an emergency floatation device), which, in my ever so keen sense of foresight, I had made to order with the inclusion of a micro two-way radio system, a micro GPS system that is capable of overcoming any type of atmospheric interference, a pre-loaded mp3 player with speakers (designed for rock & metal music), made-to-order fire starting device guaranteed to work no less than 6,000 times, a compressed bedding system, and as assortment of 500 highly top secret Delta force type compressed full meal capsules which can be activated with salt or fresh water. Ooops, maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that last one.
One sporran for the rest of my life? A nice black embossed leather day sporran. I don’t see myself going to any events where I have to be that formal. I think an argyle with a nice day sporran is good enough for most uses.
+USAKiltsOfficial *Thanks for the stylist perspective.* A simple pin Day _Sporran_ is appropriate for casual events, can take a fur upgrade for a Semi-Dress for Dinner-Dress occasions. Hunting and Dress _Sporran_ are similar construction, except that the Dress has a matching Cantle.
I inherited my grandmother’s autumn haze mink wrap and it has stayed in storage for years. I think it would look great and get more use if made into a dress sporran or two. Do you or anyone you can recommend do such conversion work?
I don't yet have a kilt belt, but plan on going to a local ren faire in my town soon; what are the odds that someone will be there selling kilt accessories and would it be inappropriate to wear a kilt without a belt for the time being?

A mid sporran with fur and leather will do just fine.
I have one sporran it's made of rabbit fur and I absolutely love it

I personally wear a piper sporran for almost every occasion, that’s basically the biggest reason to have one.
That is what I use is a hunting sporran.
Only need a fur sporran if the evening activity involves formal level attire ie black tie w PC or regulation doublet

Are there dress sports that are not fur? Or faux fur?
One sporran? Full mask sporran, it'll match any leather, and can be worn casually or formally
Well that thumbnail is something special Lmao.
