Dress Sporrans with Less Formal Outfits?

- Can you wear a dress sporran with anything other than a Prince Charlie formal kilt outfit?
Are dress sp;orrans ONLY for formal events? “After six” occasions?
Or can you wear a dress sporran with a tweed kilt outfit or something else more “day wear” or “casual wear”?
The trick with a dress sporran is realizing how intense it can be compared to the elements of clothing around it. The sporran is also almost always the center of focus for a kilt outfit - so the sporran sets the tone for the outfit as a whole. Can you wear a dress sporran any time you want? Yes. Will it look odd or like you don’t know what you’re doing? Perhaps.

I really don't see what the fuss is about. "Dress sporrans" look great with daywear. The Jacket you wear has more effect on dressed up you look.
I feel like this is a non-issue for me. There are some sporrans that are clearly casual (the "unshaped" style) but I think beyond that, most sporrans are fine to wear casually or formally, so long as it's tidy. If the rabbit fur is falling out and patchy, its time to retire it from the formal list.
I am a pharmacist for walmart and i wear a dress sporan and tartan kilt every day with a black under armor sports polo every day. The dress sporran IMO requires some kind of coat, and in my case, the pharmacy smock fits the bill. At the same time, I recognize I am blazing a wild trail. I am wearing the kilt and sporran in leau of a pair of slacks. I am trying to be professional and formal within the measures of highland wear vibe as a modern presentation of a medical professional.
I'm inclined to disagree a little here. I believe a dress sporran can be worn in my variety of dress than just formal jacket/vest etc. I think with tweed is fine, without jackets even. Not with t shirt though, no. Great show guys. Big fans from New Zealand.
Bollocks. Go to a Rugby match or any event in Scotland. Lots of folks only have one sporran and it’s a dress sporran.
Surprised there was no comment on the clashing of the metal cantle with a belt buckle if it's worn with one/without a vest, there is a reason other than "it's the way it is."
I've seen a lot of men here in Scotland wearing full dress sealskin sporrans with black Argyll jackets. If anything it's the norm, I'd say. Certainly in my own experience I don't know anyone with more than one sporran
Aye, it's typically leather or seal skin for me on any occasion, although only because my coney fur sporran was stolen by the cat.
@@gazpal A good sporran is expensive, like a good pair of shoes, so it makes sense most folk here only have one or two sporrans

I only wear dress sporran when I'm able to drag our cat away from it

Not going to lie, I totally wear a dress sporran sometimes with casual and semi formal.
I bought a goat hair sporran this year but wanted it to be able wearable as full dress or semi casual .It has no metal whatsoever but is still very stylish if somewhat 19th century . I think it works but is almost too upscale for tweed ....almost . I think a 20th century metal cantle sporran would look odd with anything less than an Argyle jacket .
But have you seen pictures of the Ref Hot Chillie Pipers with there red dress sporrans? They wear it casually
Owning many animals (3 dogs, 2 cats, 5 goats and 8 chickens) I enjoy wearing a traditional style kilt even if I'm just hanging at home, but the animal hairs get stuck all over the kilt and hose. Short of getting rid of all of them or endlessly lint rolling what other ways might someone keep a kilt and hose fur free?
I don't know what kind of dress sporran to opt for on a tight budget. I'm likely only to buy an argyll jacket for both smart daywear and formal events because funds are so limited, so I might look into semi-dress instead for now. I just don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on a pocket for my kilt.
For me a day and a semi dress sporran is enough. That’s what I have for now and formal events will probably not happen in my lifetime. A full mask is on the way for my great kilts.

To me a dress Born is for formal events. Black tie basically. It does not matter if it’s going to be a prince Charlie or a very nice suit, black tie. In other words it doesn’t have to be something you’d wear a tuxedo to, but if you have a very nice suit you would wear to a wedding, a party, something like that a funeral, dress boring. But if you want to just wear something to a less formal event, like a casual Christmas party but you’re wearing a suit then a semi dress or semi formal. It’s amazing to me anyways how people don’t understand as well that you don’t wear a belt and buckle with the dress sporran. It looks so busy on top of the concern of scratching them up. That candle on the dress Born takes place of the buckle. And as far as wearing a belt and buckle when you’re wearing a semi dress boring or business attire, if there’s little to no chance of me taking the jacket off I won’t worry sporran. But if there’s a possibility that I’m going to wear the jacket to and from but not during an event or work or whatever, I’ll probably wear the buckle.
Argyle neither fish nor fowl. I might not wear a dress sporran with a tweed jacket. However I wore a fur sporran when I got married with a day jacket and tie in worsted cloth like a suit
the last 3 seconds of the vid he says wear a dress sporran and a tux shirt... thanks for the clarification. he also said the cantle is not real but for appearance sake, get a semi-dress sporran and get on with your life.
A dress sporran and belt don't go together.
I think you're sticks in the mud. I like to wear my dress sporran often with a sweater because of the cancel. I have a simi-dress that I wear when I have a belt on.
