in my opinion the best all round hot hatch on the market at the moment. Just wish I could afford one.

scott miller I don't know why i don't like them. I think it is that they are just too common and seems like the "safe" choice. I'd much prefer something a bit more special

there is no sound coming from the speakers. There is a device called soundaktor which is installed under the hood under the wiper compartment. It sends noise under the windshield.

Golfs love a remap. My Mk6 gti was taken to a whole other level of fast after a tune!

These new German cars are very very fast. Can't knock them for that. Only thing that stops me buying one is the fact that they don't look special until you see the exhaust. Look near enough the same as a 2tdi version.

I would like you to test drive a 335d E90 remapped.
I have a 335d remapped which has 390bhp. ( 355hp) at the wheels and around 750 Newton meters of torque and is a very fast car.

It's the fact it's 4 wheel drive and is so light. It's immense.
I can tell you this..I own a W211 E63 with 520hp and I want to sell for an 18 Golf R, just for the fact I can live with it everyday much easier and more affordably

APR remap. Same here , some 380hp 500nm
Sprint tome 0 to 10km in 4.1 seconds race mode launch. I think I can crack 4 seconds in cooler days.
Who needs an audi RS3 when you can do this?
bad bit is if anything breaks using launch controll it won't be cover by warranty. Be careful!

I have a MK7 GTD mapped to 240bhp 400 lb-ft and whilst its nothing in this league, the fact that I can get such a kick up the rear and still get 40mpg round town is awesome. Love it to bits. The golf is a really solid car and I might even replace it with a Mk7.5 R DSG.

mk3 rs isn't the fastest in a straight line but its got the best handling.

my Abarth 595 Competizone was 160bhp, mapped to 230bhp cold air intake. Bare in mind it weighs half of the golf, getting 0-60 of 5.1 seconds

Golf R wins hands down over the s3 the reason I say this is it's almost 10 grand cheaper, and if I put 10 grand in to the golf then you got a car that is seriously fast.

It means the amount of power now is stressing the centre diff. VW being VW will only fit components rated a little more than their purpose

I own a mk7 golf r and i agree with a lot of the comments about it looks a bit boring. thats VW .low key!. value for money you can argue all you like. you can't beat it.
but look at the next level up. price for example.(AUSTRALIA).. AMG 45. BMW M2 or AUDI RS3. VW $60.000. AMG $95.000. M2 $122.000. RS3 $102.000. NO BRAINER!...

Love those cloth seats, wish my Canadian R had 'em. The Vienna leather wears and sags horribly.
It's cars like this that make exotica such as 964 turbos and Diablos look like over priced Dinosaurs. Would love to see this R rip some 90's super car a new one. This is VW's 2 fingered salute to the rest of the car industry. Brilliant

dsg can be a very problematic box tho dmf goes and mechtronics problems etc, that's a very dear job to do. ok if brand new though as will be fixed under warranty

These cars second hand on autotrader with a dsg box 63 reg are pushing £20.000 more. Been waiting to see if they come down in price and do they bollocks 🙃
And for the price of a golf 7 gtd dsg you can buy a seat leon cupra 280 dsg

Is there any clutch slip with the stage one upgrade and what is the 0-100mph time? (i'm guessing 10.5 - 11.5 secs??)

Mark Denyer nope, you can't even hear the engine. piped fake engine sound through the speakers....in a hot hatch is an insult in my opinion
robz I agree but thats why I bought an MK7 Golf R, got the Armytrix full exhaust system, also got it remapped and the fake noise taken away. It's the perfect sleeper in my opinion.
I haven't had it on the dino yet but I'm guessing its around 400hp with the upgrades.

Personally dont like the look of the MK7 R golfs,They look just like any other standard MK7 golf with an R badge stuck on it,I know theres more to it than that but for example take a look at the MK4 Golf R..You can tell its a "R" straight away because it looks much more sporty and aggressive compared to the MK7.

Agree, if you want a car which is a higher spec to the standard you want people to know that unless you want something which looks stealthy like an RS4. Im my opinion car manufacturers should make their top of the line sports spec models stand out to the other specs

Nevakonaza - this is why I like it, so understated without everyone wanting to race you. I have put a few other flashier cars in their place off the line at lights and that makes me smile

If they gave it some arches and fitted the 5 cylinder engine out of the RS3/TTRS I'd buy one. Looks too much like a standard Golf and I don't like the sound of 4 cylinder engines.

Main rivals, hmm maybe the S3, the Golf R would be truly remarkable if it was unique, sadly it's just another cheap Audi or expensive VW dependent on your opinion. Great value performance car nonetheless

Does remapping void all warranty this is the only reason I have not done it with mine 2016 R
Robert Ulph There are some remaps that are still covered under the factory warranty, I know Apr is one. You'd have to ask the remap company that.

Ben Kay sound aktor mate, actually quite common in modern cars now due to the amount of sound deadning they use to kill road noise.
Best hot hatch on the market but it looks so boring, if that passed you in the street, is an R or a diesel. Racing buckets, big spoilers etc where are they, it's the sporty model isn't it?
Stephen White the GTI Club-sport has the bodykit to appeal to the yobo’s and boy racers. VW and Audi are trying to get away from that crowd and be more subtle with they’re design. if you want to look like you’ve had a midlife crisis by a Focus RS.

Its by far the fastest from a 20 onwards roll I have seen videos
launch is useless as a stat when your actually on the road in gear and need the speed the m140 is by far better having the larger engine and price to performance is the best aswell when you consider power qaulity and then price.
Ricky Cataldo i agree with you mate, once the cars are rolling other than the rs3 the m140i leaves most for dead. Its such a hard option for me between the golf r and the 140i id be happy with either tbh
