    I was so fortunate to watch football during this era. My dad complained because the prices went up ten pence this 1978 season, so it cost £1.10 to stand on the Kop.
    Today's sanitized version of football means that a lot of people are missing out on something special.

    I must admit the skill level is really quite high, muddy pitches, tough leathery balls, which became waterlogged, goalkeepers with no gloves, heavy football boots in comparison to today, a better class of football.

      I was often asked by Germans, (this was when 99% of English clubs had British players), why English clubs were the best in Europe 70s and 80s...(and would probably had been longer had it not been for the Heysel tragedy), but the national team was crap. I never understood that either. The clubs are excellent in Europe today, the only difference being, with the majority being from abroad, they're not really British teams. ..fucking Bosman. You don't have the Charltons, Shearers, Gerrards, Lineckers who you always identified with one club. Even Glasgow Celtic's players when they won the European Cup in 1967, all but one member of the 15 man squad were born within 10 miles of Celtic Park . Now it's some new transfer coming from PSG, or was it Ajax? who is neither Dutch nor French, you cannot pronounce his name , (Ok some foreigners had problems with pronouncing "McManaman"), but when you can, they're off to Valencia or was it Los Angeles? Naaa, it's all business now.

    United fans penned in to a quarter of the Anfield Rd now by this time (compare to vid from 75 when it was half)! Clearly no H+S aspect to over-crowding - if you look at the crowd density, the United side is massively more packed that the Liverpool half - and I don't believe the Liverpool bit next to the United section wouldn't have been considered full! Yes, the Munich songs were disgraceful. BertAtkin there's a cultural divide between the two cities too. Scousers are mostly of Irish descent and the city was built around the docks. Mancs mostly have deep Lancastrian roots and that city was built on the cotton industry. There was also a lot of animosity when the Manchester Ship Canal was built. The cotton boats bypassed the Liverpool docks and went straight into Manchester.

    • @michealflaithbheartaigh4139
      @michealflaithbheartaigh4139 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There isn't a cultural divide ...It's Liverpool and United fans are just dickheads . It's that simple ...Matt Busby used to play for Liverpool ....Liverpool loaned a load of players to United after the 58 air crash ....Everton and City don't like inbreeds every time they play each other ....It's basically 2 identical sets of fans jealous of the other culb's sucess ...hence why United hated Liverpool in 70's and 80's and Why Liverpool hated united through the 90's and 2000's ...I'm sick of that lie

      @2010realitycheck I did say British players, but I also mentioned the England squad. Scottish players have often been the backbone of Liverpool, Leeds etc. But Scotland as a national team....crap. And we won't even mention Wales and N.Ireland. I was wondering if those players back then had played for a GB or UK side how things might have turned out. (See the GB Olympic squad).

      Helped, created and fired-up to a large extent by sensational hungry media, who considered Liverpool FC as usurpers, in that it should be Man U winning the trophies . . . . . . . NOT Liverpool.

      Hello BA greetings . . .Liverpool darlings of the media? Hillsborough bypassed you completely did it BA??? When the media [particularly the press spoke and printed out and out LIES for nigh on 27 years concerning Liverpool and its supporters which provided the platform for every club in the country to denigrate Liverpool and its fans, which was one of the Media's aims. In your first post you said quote, "I can't UNDERSTAND the hatred between the 2 clubs. Sad really." That MEANS then from your own writing you can't understand it - correct? I provided a rationale for the "hatred" to help further some understanding and then you respond you can't agree. Are you grasping the inherent contradiction of your stance? Weird. Incidentally I'm not sure what both "clubs sell" has to do with anything in regards to this. Whatcha smoking over there BA?

    • @BertAtkin
      @BertAtkin 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry Mate, they are media darlings, the Sun newspaper is a horrible rag. But Liverpool are on the TV with United more than any. They along with United are on the back pages more than any. Always lauded as the best Fans, best atmosphere etc. The reason why they are disliked is because they have fans all over the country who don't support their local team. Your comment may be "rationale" to you, but not necessarily to me. You can put it in an intelligent way if you like, but that doesn't change my opinion and I'm not contradicting myself. Put a story of United or lfc on the back page and it sells. That in my opinion isn't weird. Don't know what BA is? But I'm not getting into an online slagging match with you "over there" wherever that is. Thanks for your opinion. I don't understand the Munich/Heysel jibes and I never will. Not even your "Rationale" has answered it. Cheers though for trying.

      I agree with you about those horrible chants, as a Liverpool fan I could never defend that, it's awful.
      United fans have hit back over the years with "murderers" (regarding Heysel) & things like 96 is not enough (obviously referring to Hillsborough). All of those kind of chants from both sides are revolting & I hope as the generations pass that those chants get phased out completely, for the good of both clubs.
