Wow ! I was a tanker 19Echo there in 3/12 Cav C company our barracks was right across the mess hall my CO was Capt Woods when I was there in 1979- 1983 we had the M60 tanks when I was getting ready to leave in 1983 from the Army my company started getting the M1 Tanks I remember the many times I had CQ duty I left the Army as a SP5
I arrived in Germany Oct 69 and was stationed in Budingen until spring of 70. when the 2/83FA moved to Babenhausen. One of my least pleasant memories, was when rats climbed the drain pipes and exited in toilets when flushed. Kinda freaky when you finish your business and then seeing a large rodent doing circles in the bowl. Apparently Armstrong barracks were a Nazi R&R center in WWII and needed serious repairs, but all the money for refurbishing was going to Vietnam. I did however love the city of Budingen.
Aahhh yes! Great memories in good ol' swingen Büdingen. I was stationed there after my tour in the Gulf War ('91-94) when it still 4/7 Cav then after a few months it was redesignated to 1/1 Cav. I was a with F Troop Air Cav, Ammo and Ordnance Specialist. Hooah!
Awesome to see Budingen again. I was stationed there when you filmed this. C Trp 3/12 then HHT 4/7. I miss the Bistro and Kuterschenks. Thanks for posting it.
I lived there also and would love to see some pictures of the housing area located right outside the front entrance. Been looking for pics. Also there was a little pub right around the corner from the front gate that had the best steak sandwiches. Wish i could remember the name. Love and miss Budingen
God this brings back very great memories, I have explored every square foot of that city, Moni's Place was our local hangout and still wondered how the hell I got back to post being totally shit faced off of that great German bier such as Licher, my favorite.
What? No frog fountain in your video? I was stationed at Armstrong Barracks from 70-72 with the 509th Ordnance Detachment. We supported the 3/12 Cav and 3/61 Air Defense Artillery. I can't believe the post is no longer there now.
The main road that ran alongside the kaserne was Lorbacher Strasse but I'm not aware of an actual street address. I remember we used APO NY 09076 for mail. I've seen it listed as "Armstrong Barracks, Budingen, Hesse, W. Germany" (if you recall Hesse is the state).so might be all there is for an address. If you're just trying to pinpoint its location Google "Budingen Germany" and there's plenty of info and it'll show up in Google maps.
@@seanm9227 goo.gl/maps/zc6ZPNURJyPwK6Gk7 The most of the Military Buildings in Büdingen have been knocked down - some have been refurbished - and you can buy now flats there. Lorbacher Straße and Orleshäuser Strasse - the names belong to the small villages close by. In Orleshausen was a steakhouse - Carlos, a former GI - married to my mothers cousin - was the owner. He passed away.
Station there in the ADA Bn 89-91...Loved that assignment!!!!
