    I moved to Christchurch and have been living here 7 years. Comparing it to Auckland, Wellington and Wanaka, first Christchurch is the only one out of these areas that doesn't have a housing shortage meaning inflated prices, Wellington isn't too bad but Wanaka and Auckland are both over priced and the salary doesn't reflect the higher cost of housing including Rent. Christchurch has in my opinion now the best quality of housing out of any City in New Zealand for the price. A double glazed modern new home can be purchased for $450,000 while add an extra $300,000 just for Auckland.
    In terms of activities, if you are a big city person and love that urban lifestyle both Wellington and Auckland dominate in this regard, Christchurch is still good but Wellington has the best laid out CBD for things to do. Auckland is much busier yet again and while there is plenty to do it's population gives it a very different feel. Christchurch is still rebuilding which has come a long way since i arrived 7 years ago. If you are an outdoorsy person then Christchurch offers ALOT. There are numerous great beaches, two ski fields an hour away and plenty of cycling and mountain biking treks. Plenty of lakes and bays to bring the boat or kayak out to and some spectacular scenic walking treks. The diversity in the sports you can do is amazing or even just to soak in the tranquility
    In terms of Climate: All 3 cities have the same amount of sunshine roughly ranging from 2100-2200 hours of sunshine annually which means they get more than enough good weather throughout the year. Auckland and Wellington have the mildest winters giving an average maximum temperature of around 14 degrees while Christchurch average winter max is around 11 degrees. Christchurch gets much less rain and hotter summers with temperatures regularly hitting 30 degrees while Auckland and Wellington get in the mid 20's but with higher humidity. Living in Christchurch year on year i find climate dictates your lifestyle so this is my experience. 7-8 months of warm-hot-warm weather which is usually from September-April. Spring and Autumn both come with their fair share of crazy weather where one day can be a southerly cold blast and the next day hot and sunny. Generally they are pretty good however. August and May are both mild-cool months and June and July are months where afternoons are mild and the nights and mornings are cold which can drop down to 0 degrees.

    The Botanical Gardens in Auckland, Wellington & Christchurch are all wonderful - and idiosyncratic - and there are also similar (excellent, idiosyncratic) botanical gardens in Hamilton, Napier, New Plymouth, Dunedin and Oamaru, but of course if you're into gardens there are many interesting places to visit throughout New Zealand. It's called the Land of the Long White Cloud fundamentally because it is an island, in an ocean, where rainfall is frequent. In the south the climate is "temperate rainforest" and in the north the climate is "sub-tropical rainforest", but what you will see everywhere is "rain" and "forest" - well, sometimes people enjoy the scenery enough not to notice the rain!

      your best bet would be around Hamilton, it is close to Raglan (one of the premier surf breaks in the country) and Mt Maunganui, another surf hotspot . .plus you are a couple hours from the central plateau where the Turoa and Whakapapa ski fields are . .there are many small country towns which are better situated to both, as you will learn when you've spent a bit of time here :)

    • @johne6479
      @johne6479 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      also New Plymouth . .you can surf in the morning and ski in the afternoon if you wish, though you need a pretty thick wet suit for the morning surf as the water temp in winter is cool to say the least (but that's nation wide when the ski fields are open lol)

    Aside from the fact that Auckland does not look like the rest of NZ, Wellington has the highest rent in the country right now, so even though I really want to go there I don't know if it's very cheap, also there are a lot more jobs in Auckland :/

    • @NZPocketGuide
      @NZPocketGuide  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing your opinion. Wellington central is indeed expensive, but the suburbs that we mention are actually cheaper than most suburbs in Auckland. Keep in mind that in Auckland there is also much much more applicants per jobs than in other parts of the country. The job available figure are incredibly misleading as we very often get feedback from people telling us how hard it is to get a job in Auckland compared to other parts of the country.

      I’m from Auckland and the reason it’s more expensive is because of lack of housing. Investors (primarily Chinese) buy homes leaving them empty in order to resell it for profit in 10 or so years. This means less houses for the growing Auckland population which means the prices go higher in auctions

    Hi guys. Which city is good for immigrants to get IT job easily?

      We think that Wellington and Christchurch would be good choices :)

    • @glenbe4026
      @glenbe4026 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As a Kiwi, I think the youtubers exaggerate how different Auckland is. In fact I would say they VASTLY exaggerate. Auckland would be the best place to find an IT job easily. Wellington would be a very distant 2nd. And Christchurch would be like trying to find an IT job in a small city like Glasgow (Scot) or Belfast (NI) or Denver (USA) or Newcastle (AU). Like a lot of "tourists" they are only interested in what they consider a "real NZ experience" which usually entails moving to Queenstown (the do not really want to visit NZ, just say they did Tourists) or Wellington (the Hipster Tourists) or Wanaka (the so far up my arse, I am a travel writer Tourists).
