That's a traditional Ukrainian instrument called Bandura, most of our folk songs were created for it. Closest that I can compare is something between lute and harp. Historically it was used as Lute in Europe, so in the 16th century if you would visit some tavern 90% chance that you'll find there some bards with banduras and maybe violins.
After downloading my top 3 and listening all day - Call for Love is definitely my strong number 1 now. Live performance doesnt seem as strong as radio edit though

Was waiting for this! Haven't watched it yet, just sat down, but just to tell you that while I waited today I investigated Beovizija and wow, it's so high standard. If you can bring yourself to wade thtlrough 24 songs, some of it is worth it! And if you love Balkans madness. Or those belty ballads. I've now two more songs I LOVE, repeat all afternoon. They're songs I'll listen to in ten years time for sure

I'd be happy with at least 17 or 18 through, and I'd live with 6 or 7 winning the entire contest. I really hate the one that's gone viral, Predictably. You couldn't possibly review all of them, you'd die. But I suggest you listen to them all at some stage, if you like Serbian music of course. I'm blown away by the standard. Although there are so many of them I ended up grateful some bottom ones really weren't to my taste and I could start skipping.

Vidbir this year feels very weak compared to their better years, and as you mentioned that standard might be a bit unfair but to me this isn't it. It's okay, but this isn't the standard I hoped for. Staging is everything to these entries. It seems pretty evident that the rumors that Vidbir was struggling to get the best talent out of fear and protest of last year weren't unfounded.

This year's Vidbir for me, is a complete disappointment.......there is definitely NO winner here......there are 3 which i can just about listen to...Khayat and Solovey are palatable (only just!) But at a push I'd go for 99, purely based on the staging which is not a great thing to do......I like the song structure but feel that her vocals aren't great. Either way, i can't even see a top 10 entry here at all...... Get the alimony prepared!!!!😤😤😤
