No matter what it is your trying to fix,you always make it interesting Vince.there will be young wannabe repairmen watching your vids and making a career from them I’m sure
Nice fix @My Mate Vince. When you’re wondering about tactile switches and the direction they are always connected. Look at the flat metal legs and imagine the direction they enter the body of the button that they continue through to the other side. Because they do. They enter one side, go right through and come out the other side. So continuity will be present in the direction the metal leg faces. Pressing the button connects the metal strip one side to the metal strip the other side.
The seller did a lousy job packaging the radio. They just warped it like a birthday/Christmas present and sent it in the mail. They should of put it in a box with bubble wrap. Great job on the fix Vince.
@@PhD63 Cuz if said non functioning radio gets damaged badly enough the buyer can send it back on the sellers cost and the seller will have their radio back which is now worth even less due to the damage plus they will be out the 5-10 euros it'll cost to ship it back.

I have a black version of the Majority Sidney. Bought second-hand off Ebay. It works very well. It does come with a remote that makes navigation and alphabet entry easier. I also have a Majority Fitzgerald, which doesn't have integral audio but instead connects to a hifi for excellent sound. The same remote works on either model.

Hello Vince, what a funny thing to be watching on New year's Day. Still, thoroughly enjoyed it. I love your rational and thoroughly optimistic approx. Happy new year to you and your family
Hi Vince, TSP or tri sodium phosphate (in crystals) is super cheap and diluteable in water. It is an awesome degreaser and mold controller. It s commonly available in hardware or paint stores (degreases walls: smoker's house for example.) t does leave a fine whiteish residue that keeps fighting mold if not rinsed or wiped off. Might work in Rolls Royces too. Kept in a moisture-free environment the TSP will keep for decades. Safe? Yes, it's also found in 'merikan breakfast cereals to preserve both 'freshness' and texture (assuming milk environment.)
A man after my own ❤️ heart. I like the idea of backup devices so much so I have 2 or 3 items of the same device. Always come in handy for the rest of the family who need certain devices, cheaper than buying new. I have to say though this is just revolting, all that green mould inside, honestly it's awful, makes me want to remove all the electronic bits and spray mould remover inside. That's the risk you run with ebay, as you have often said Vince.
Great repair Vince but annoying low frequency thump every time you moved the radio on your bench, especially listening through headphones. Mic placement?
I genuinely can say I found this video to be really interesting, not only the effort required to fix it but the diagnosis of the likely history, of the damaged device prior to purchase, and the reflection of the state of the market, which goes under the banner of 'EBay.'I'm not directing my negativity towards eBay it's just an avenue to make a quick buck, assuming a vendor can turn a profit, with the minimum investment, selling goods that have been dumped as rubbish, unfortunately I see how there is such a desperate need to make money, individual vendors will try anything to make money.
I think it's really nice of you to think of your dad like that. I hope he gets some amusement out of the thing. Good job there, although I'd toss that box because of the mold, and put the parts in a replacement box of some kind.
agreed, mold is disgusting and chances of getting it fully out of a porous material like plywood are slim. the box should have definitely gone in the bin.
i mentioned years ago when you 1st started soldering you can use any tip you like, but its usually best to use the biggest one you can for the job.. so obviously there is no right/wrong tip. just your preference.. But why do you prefer that tip?
Turned out to be pretty nice! Would be very upsetting if those buttons were replaced for nothing. It was a brave move to just replace them without trying to just connect the terminals with tweezers or something like that.
Very interesting repair and absolutely hideous box, that amount of mould made me cringe. But it's nice to see a blue mat video along the Rolls-Royce ones
I think it's worth £30 when you end up with Internet Radio , DAB and an Aux port (and a video out of it. 🤣). Just wondering Vince why you don't download a number of music tracks from the TH-cam Audio Library and put them on your music play to use during testing in your videos (that seems to be OK according to the terms of usage)?
great tea-time break video Vince, yeah people on ebay shouldn't be selling things for excessive amounts, and list it as being either stored outside, or used outside, or salvaged from a skip. while not 100% fix, at least you found where the problem is, and got it working enough for the job it was intended for, yes would be better if 100% working, but still a fix none the less.
Hey Vince...FYI...the part number you were looking up for the FM modulator wasn't correct. I found the correct one. The actual number is at 31:49. T3B-6220CDB-1.0. I did find them online.
That's good to hear - if you can get the part as well, then it would be worth putting a new one on to restore FM functionality - not that FM is very good around where I live, when all you can get is lots of Heart FM's and not a lot else!
These chips on the faulty daughterbord didn't look (at least the bigger one) like BGA. Did you try to reflow the chips? maybe this might help already. Just a thought.
Hi Vince, been watching your videos for awhile now and there very educational, thank you for making them. also can you tell me what schematic diagram viewing software your using. Thanks again.

I guarantee you that’s come from a recycling centre, stuff can be in the skips for days in the rain before the staff rescue them to sell on to bric-a-brac dealers 😂
Can you get the chips? Maybe it's easier (and certainly cheaper) to get the chip than the entire module, and since it's not BGA you should be able to replace it. I was curious to see if the numbers on the main chip would come up with anything, but I can't make them out well enough to look it up myself. Anyway, I don't think it was boring, your videos rarely are.
I think the module might be muting or disabeling the audio output there was a mute pin on the amp chip can you probe that to see if thats enabled? Otherways the chip has failed

May you take a look for a desoldering knife. it´s a very thin blade that you can shove under the pin while heating it with fresh solder. Edison is selling a cheap one.
Really interesting video, Vince. Presumably you'll leave feedback that reflects the condition of the item compared with its description - as well as the fitness for purpose of the packaging?
You will not believe the amount of electronics people are throwing out. And there are people (scavengers) that hang out at the recycling plant picking up the good stuff (and it ends up on eBay). Every day I went to the recycling station - there's at least 3 huge electronics pallets filled with MODERN oled screens of all sizes, Nvidia Gsync screens, Gaming laptops, digital radios like yours, and endless amounts of gadgets (this is in Sweden - in a small city of 13K people!) And it's EVERY DAY. It's crazy.
This has come from a water damaged property they get written off but some resell the items instead of dumping them it can be quite dangerous if somebody with no experience buys these items it should also have been in the description.
