    This unit seems to be for everyone that says "I love my old tube amp, but I wish...", then lists things such as wanting it a bit louder or quieter, have a solo boost, effects loop, or built-in reverb. There are other units that do some of these things, but not many that do all of them (the Ox, maybe?).

      There are lots of other options but the TAE is the best quality attenuator on the market IMO. The other settings in the box are also really nice especially if you don't have your own DSP or reactive load.

    Great video! I just got a TAE myself, but to my surprise I haven't been able to figure out how to use it with my vintage Fender combo amps yet. I might just be a dummy, but when I tried to connect my amps speaker cable to the "TO SPEAKER OUT A/B" nothing happened. Then I instead tried plugging my combo amp's speaker cable to the "FROM TUBE AMP" jack, but still was unable to get any sound out of my amp, even after tinkering with the reactive load controls on the front panel. Maybe I'm missing something here? Any tips? Thanks!

    So does this affect your amp sound much? Does it get compressed or make your amp sound fizzy if you turn up your amp but attenuate the volume quite a bit using this?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Gtrman69777. Thanks for the inquiry. Hope you and yours are well and safe. The BOSS WAZA (and any load/attenuation device) absolutely changes the feel and output sound of your amp depending on how the amp and device are set, and if you're playing direct or through a cabinet. Used in extremes, the sound and feel will not be remotely similar to what you experience in the room. What the settings are on the load box, your desired sound, guitar pickup output and touch all interact and may be remarkably different compared to if you're playing under "normal" circumstances in the room.
      Please contact me direct if I didn't answer your question completely.

    Am I correct in understanding that for recording… We can have our amp head plugged in to the waza, and have the head go directly into the computer with virtual speakers… OR would we be playing a completely virtual amp?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Noah. If you were using the TAE for recording, it would be the sound of whatever amp you are running into it. You would be using virtual cab IR’s to complete the sound but the amp itself would be yours.

      My amp at .5 watt setting produces over 90 dB in a bedroom, still way too loud for practice without moving to a different room to play, and that amp doesn’t sound as good as my 18 watt which is way over 110 in small rooms.

      WAY BETTER..It basically does what the ox should have done. For the life of me I do not understand why ox brought out a unit that wasn't finished. It has a foot control jack that DOES NOT work wtf?? same price but you cant change rig settings in a live setting. That's a deal breaker for me. Do you need all these features?? YES paying the same price for less is pretty silly.

  • @albertchaboya9944
    @albertchaboya9944 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can one of these be used in a wet-dry live application?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Albert! Thanks for reaching out on this. The short answer is yes, the OX's signal path is pure analog and the output is "dry" when no processing is turned on (cab/mic/room simulation or effects processing) and your amp will sound as it normally would through the speaker(s) it is connected to. This will allow you to go back and forth between a true wet or dry signal depending on your applied settings.
      I hope that answers your question. Thanks for your interest and feel free to reach out directly to discuss further!

    Can the boss Waza tube expander act as an audio interface and be used with amp plugins? (like Neural DSP plugins)

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Azael, interesting question. While the Waza does have a USB out for the reactive load from a tube amp, in order to use it with guitar plug-ins, you would have to bypass everything in the virtual signal chain. Also since there isn’t a dedicated instrument in, the FX loop return is the only logical guitar input. I haven’t used it in that way since it’s not designed that way, so I don’t have any idea of what the result would be sonically.
      Please contact us direct with other questions as you have them!

    love the sound of this thing. do not love price.
    once I passed up a tweed champ for 800. bucks....probably sold for less than 200. looked like it had been through WW2 but sounded like heaven.
    I thought I was smart to walk away but never found that sound again after thousands spent...
    Tube amps can be perfect and cheap...as long as speaker can also be overdriven amazing tone can be achieved on the cheap...so when the "fix" costs well over a thousand...what does one expect to pay for great tone? for me ...with this additional thing...it would be at least 2400.before fx... I think its time to re-think and simplify for better tone

      mightysnoro no. Everything is after the amplifier’s preamp AND power amp. It is before the expander’s power amp, but when he’s saying this, he means that it’s after the amplifier’s power amp.

    A question came up about the IR loader in this unit. Since there is not a way to eq the cabinet ( or that's what boss stated ) how would I go about cutting the low/highs on the IR file? Is there a program that can do this and then reload it into the waza?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, RL Lynch! The absolute easiest thing would be to do that while you're making the IR, depending on what you use. Or, on the amp while getting your rig set up. IR are effectively sonic fingerprints, anything you do to distort it after it's made might not turn out the way you like. Those earlier options are your best bet. Let us know if more questions come up. Rock on!

    How good is this? If I’m thinking of buying a cheaper, lighter morgan PR12 amp vs a PR36, will this be just as realistic so I can get the 12 watt instead of the 36 watt?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, nsc217. The Waza Tube Amp Expander could work with either amp and shouldn't really determine which amp you get. If you need something with giggable clean volume, then the PR36 is what you'll want. The PR12 still has enough volume for gigging, but will break up much more easily and compresses much earlier. The Waza can be used to reduce the volume on either.
      Thanks for your interest!

      @@sweetwater well this confuses me. i thought it could make the smaller amps louder aswell!?

    • @Yowie722
      @Yowie722 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nick Sonne Hansen it can, but you need a speaker cab that could handle the extra power. For instance, if you had a 5w combo, you wouldn’t use the internal speaker to try to push more volume. However, take the 5w combo, run that into the Boss, then out to a 4x12 speaker cab and you can turn you little 5w into a 100w monster.

      @@Yowie722 exactly what I thought. I think the guy from Sweetwater has a misconception about the expandable possibilities of this unit. But will it have the same clean headroom respons?

      @HKT48 Man better off getting something like the Bogner Atma that already has a power attenuator built in for 1-18watt usage and get the same high end Marshall sounds.

    I thought it has a 150w power amp?

    • @Rouwiinator
      @Rouwiinator 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's that also. basically it allows you to put the signal you put into it (from amp) at any volume you'd like. meaning you can turn your old plexi down or use it completely silent but you could also take a five watt practice amp and make it loud enough for gigs which it otherwise couldn't be.

      How hard is it to get EQ right? You can use reverb and delay pedals in a parallel effects loop - much better than before the amp.

      Except that they’ve made some of the most famous guitar pedals of all time and have been featured on some of the best sounding and best selling albums ever and are loved by artists who could buy anything they want.
      So, if that’s not enough to be “considered high quality” then I don’t know what is. Perhaps you meant that they aren’t a small, expensive, boutique pedal company with a TH-cam channel?

    Why dont you spend your time and money. Do it the old fashion way, The 60,70,80s-Write great music that a people like, want to hear, buy and pay to see you. This is not going to put you at the top of the charts, sorry nothing will but raw talent, anyone recall what that is ?
