I really like how you talked about how it’s okay to be nervous & feel like you know nothing but at the same time to also have a backbone so you don’t get stepped on! Ask questions, it will show them that you’re willing to learn despite your fears! Being a nursing student, I’m still learning to be comfortable asking questions & making mistakes! Also, I totally understand feeling guilty for taking time to myself! I always feel like I should be studying lol

My auntie was a ER nurse for 5 years before she started being a travel nurse she said was waiting tell she felt more comfortable now that she has been a nurse for a bit
I’m so proud of you!! That’s what I plan to do too! While I’m college I’m going to live at home, If I choose a university close to home then I’ll stay home, but I might leave and have a dorm, but even after I graduate college I’ll live at home for a year or 2 to save $$ for a house or apartment 😊

Hands down best tip I got it from a nurse when I first started breast-feeding my oldest was to drop a little milk on his mouth and then he latch just a little tip for you

Do you do a bead jar? I see often, l&d rn's have a large jar they add with pink, blue, or white beads in when they deliver 😁. A nice little reminder of their help bringing life to the world ❤️

I know schedule was asked and I will say it differs by hospital. Thought I’d say mine to give more perspectives. For the techs and nurses we have to be there at 0645, no earlier than 0638 and they give change of shift report, we cannot leave before 1908 and I know I have seen some nurses and techs stay because their change of shift was late to get report or they had to chart.
I just started as a tech at a nearby hospital, hope it gets my foot in the door because I want to be in the OR. I’m float pool, which means I can go to different floors depending on who needs me and I found the full timers on different floors kinder than others. I try to not let it get to me, but it’s rough because they will be rude or complain about me not knowing how to do something but then won’t show me or watch me and critique me. So far I have enjoyed ICU and step down (progressive care unit) the most, they are smaller and the nurses and other techs were super kind.
Going to be honest, in my free time I play Magic: The Gathering on Spelltable, and it’s been nice as long as I avoid toxic people on the discord server I use. I also sleep on my days off, like lots of sleep, I sleep in, then nap.
I still have 3 semesters of nursing school, hoping I make it through.

I graduate in august and just accepted a position as a L&D nurse!! It is very much possible to get into the specialty you want as a new grad. I haven’t even graduated yet and secured the job
That's what's so good about nursing! The field is constantly in need of new nurses so you're pretty much guaranteed a job after you graduate unlike other degrees

@@Kyera4u I haven’t even started yet. I graduate in 4 weeks. I live in New Orleans and we have a super high demand for nurses out here. I know some places don’t higher new grads in a specialty but they are out here.
@@christina_rn504 oh wow, that’s dope! Congrats love! If you don’t mind me asking, did you go the entire BSN route for your studies or the associates route, and then will have a hospital pay for your bsn?
Also if you don’t mind me asking, what’s the starting salary/hourly rate for a new grad labor nurse?
@@Kyera4u I did BSN. I took a few pre reqs then started the program. In New Orleans (or just Louisiana in general) we’re one of the lowest paying states lol. But the avg pay starts between $25-30. It depends on the hospital you go to. Some also offer sign on bonuses as a new grad but those are usually med surg positions. Sometimes ED. Specialty usually only offers a bonus to experienced nurses. The hospital I’m at has different locations. The main hospital usually pays more than the smaller hospitals. But the main one also doesn’t have L&D.

The great thing about nursing is that there are so many different fields to go into. So if you end up not liking bedside nursing, then you can choose something else after graduating. You can do it!
