The Best Geometry Book for Beginners

  • This is probably the easiest geometry book! This means it's a perfect book for people who are just starting out and want to learn the very basics. If you want to learn geometry on your own via self-study it is hard to think of a better option. This is also excellent if you are studying geometry in school and need extra help. The book itself is not a hardcover but it's not a regular soft cover either, it's a different material. The book is called Everything You Need to Ace Geometry in One Big Fat Notebook. Do you have other recommendations for Geometry books?
I misspoke, correction: "Geometry is usually an upper division undergrad course in the US". In the video I said "grad course".

This is my first self-study math book. I love self-studying math, especially due to how I can spend as much time as I want on problems or concepts I might not understand without the stress of having to move on.
I want to be an engineer when I grow up, so enhancing my math is something I definitely have to do, and this book is great for it.
    Thank you Math Sorcerer!

Imagine seeing your most artistic math students' notes with well-drawn illustrations and bits of calligraphy on large letters, super-neat handwritings with no mistakes to erase. I envy the most orderly students with neat, tidy notetaking skills. Mine are little messy with blobs from leaking bad pens, pencil smudges,

This is great for those majors that take the general physics or algebra/trig based physics. There is sooooo much geometry in those two physics classes. Also for engineers that are going to take statics/dynamics.

Great recommendation as a sequence of thought and visual support. An even more general book is a Brit publication Help Your Kids with Math by DK publishers. Combined with the classic How to Double Your Child's Grades in School (Pre-K to College) these resources reflect your general philosophy and superior approaches to math learning. Both are great resources for every parent or student as well as your great instructional videos. Another nicely done episode.

Just finished this book. Favorite chapter was chapter 52 on volumes of Pyramids, frustrums and cones given by (1/3)bh. I did not like chapter 43 on Secants. Overall good book. That said it shouldn't be the only book one reads on geometry.

Hello friend! For the geometry leg of my self study journey I am currently using 4 geometry textbooks to maximize my learning. I am working my way thru chapter 1 of each book (currently on book 3) before moving on to chapter 2 etc. Obviously there is overlap but interestingly there is a fair amount of diversity in topics taught and teaching approach just in the first chapter of each. I use the book you’re reviewing for when I’m out (getting car inspected, traveling, etc) and a textbook is not ideal. I blame you for the library of books I’ve amassed, well exceeding my mathematical grasp. Why do I have 4-5 calculus books, discrete math books, innumerable number theory books, proofs books with linear algebra on the way?

I loved geometry in high school. It was the only math class I liked, because my teacher didn’t make us use the textbook. Everything we learned was hands on. We did projects, played games, took field trips. This notebook would have been a great addition to help with the lessons

This is a good book for students in middle/high school struggling with geometry. My sister struggled with geometry throughout middle and high school. Now she is moving to the 11th grade so she would not need to learn geometry anymore, I wish I knew about this book earlier- I would have given it to her and it would have strengthened her geometry a lot- she could have developed a genuine liking for geometry as well.

@qmekanix, you're correct. This book does not cover many advanced topics in geometry. However, that's not what this book's function is. It's just covering the basics as a review for us older guys and as a quick study for the young students.

I like geometry because it's math of the real world
however the prerequisite for geometry and algebra is arithmetic. a learner should be proficient with his/her arithmetic.

Have you seen or reviewed the Life of Fred math series by Stanley Schmidt?
If not, I would love for you to be aware of it, and possibly review it.
The series is a complete textbook set going from the most basic of math for elementary-age children all the way through advanced college math. But it’s written in the most zany and entertaining way possible.
The author is committed to teaching serious math in a decidedly unserious way.
My children absolutely love it. We are still in the elementary and middle school stage, but I intend to use it all the way through his college mathematics books.
It’s an incredible, teach-yourself curriculum, where all of the math concepts are taught using a narrative story. I think it’s fantastic for self learners.

Nearly every professional craft draws something out of geometry. Geometry is indispensable to anyone who does anything requiring manual skill. With geometry, such a person could conceivably build fine furniture without using a ruler, just dividers and the knowledge of good proportions. So, while geometry is of little interest to academics, it should be of great importance to every working stiff living today. Two other books you should read and understand are "By Hand and Eye," and "Euclid's Door."

Currently preparing to enter a bachelor in geology at university. I had to start math from scratch cause of "reasons" (I'm a bit older than most youngster students out there). I already completed algebra 1 in previous month, now looking to get into geometry and after that algebra 2, etc. Would this book on geometry be ideal for someone like myself?
