Hi again, Peter! What a nice year-end video. Mine's the same -- always taking away the bottle just when I'm starting to have fun 😝. I have a high school chum who went on to college at UC Berkeley and Cal Tech, while I went to Colgate for Commerce. Anyway, along with many other kits, we both built the Northrop P-61 'Black Widow' in our teens, and he told me a few years ago that model inspired him to become an aircraft engineer. He's now Lead Project Manager at Lockheed Martin, and actually consults for Tamiya -- mostly to say, "You can't show that." 😆 I'm pretty sure you see Ken's love of the hobby -- and his expertise -- in the F-35 kit you featured. Yeah, it was him and his team that designed and built the real thing -- he's a big boy now, and plays with big-boy toys 😎, but he still builds models. I'll ask him about it next time we talk.

kia ora [ hello ] Peter i just wanted to say thank you for the match box reviews. I'm 54 and still do modeling today. over the last year i started to collect model kits from my childhood, airfix ,and match box. Your videos lite that fire ,like you, to me matchbox from the box art to the model were beautiful..Down here in new zealand these vintage kits are hard to find but they do come up for sale now and then. I now am lucky to have 11 pre 1978 kits. To have these from when i started over 45 years ago puts the icing on my whole model collection

Good choices for the Top 3. You persuaded me to buy 2 of them. As for The Fengda, the other "Higher" range airbrush of theirs, the FE-183K is also a steal at about the same price as yours, it has the advantage of a choice of screw in cups, 3 nozzles/needles and a nice no tools necessary tapered self centering inner nozzle instead of the fiddly little screw in jobs. Much easier to clean.
I have had a go with the Fengda, but must confess that I am less than impressed so far, it seems very agricultural compared to what I am used to...I guess you get what you pay for.😧
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab As you said though, handy for those tasks such as applying primer. TBH, my one can manage fairly tight lines, so maybe its a difference in the 2 models. I did notice that some models seem more nicely finished than others. Some appear to be pretty much the same as the ones they give away with compressors. Guess I got lucky (I have never owned one that cost more than £70 - so I'm used to it).
Hello Peter. I tad late I know but Happy New Yr to you. Been following you for a good while know and genuinely thoroughly enjoy your shows, and they are always quite amusing and light hearted, so thanks for that and carry on with the good work. I have both the Airfix and the Gecko. Had to get the Airfix as I always badgered them with the wish lists. Airfix are coming on well and design team are doing a fantastic job. But I have to agree the pricing is way off. More frustratingly if you buy direct from Airfix as a club member, with the discount you can get the same kit cheaper from some shops.

A very through review of the year. The only surprise is Zoeki Mura BF109 . After yesterday's review, it was slightly obvious who was going to win. I think the other theme of the year is that Airfix, bless them, have really got their pricing structure in a sprue tangle...

Thanks for the obvious time, thought and effort that went into your critique and presentation. As a relative newby I can't really comment other than to say Tamiya is quite something as a manufacturer. I am currently working on the P38 J Lightning and it is a wonderful piece of engineering and an absolute pleasure to assemble. Take care and very best wishes for 2023 - surely it has to be better than 2020! ?,

Decent blooper reel! What you do get from not editing is a very natural result which is very appealing versus a more polished/corporate production.

Hi Peter, Never been able to get Florey stuff in Australia so never used their sanding products. Like Nigel of the modelling bench fame I use Infini sanding products. They have a very wide range, work well and are durable making them good value for money.
Just a fyi Phil is not producing sanders anymore. He is still doing his washes tho.
What a cracking top ten! glad to see your Number 5 get some love, it's an under-rated gem and goes together smashing. Your number one is brilliant choice as well. Great video Peter, love the banter!👍🏼😀

Great video loved your top 3, I have the Anson waiting to be built (Waiting on masks from Poland as I hate cutting them out). Love the 109 but I have 3 already as it's my favourite all time plane. I haven't seen the BF109G14 kit (2nd place, and I can't spell the manufacturer's name!! 😆 ), but it looks terrific; the Airfix Anson is gorgeous; it's next on my list for building, but yes, having seen that F35 Tamiya kit in your review....Oh my gosh, I really want one!! Sold out on Hannants, not even listed on Amazon UK, so just awaiting restock at Hannants; it looks incredible!!
I work at RAF Lakenheath on the 'civvy' side, in the BX (large retail store for the servicemen and their families - kind of like the RAF NAAFI), and love seeing the F15's and F35's going off during the week....when they do the 'unrestricted' take-offs, it's amazing to see them just disappear going straight up!! 🫢
You should come back down to Lakenheath and see the F35's in action; I'm sure you'd have a better opinion of them when you see how agile and quick they are, along with with the brute-force elegance of the F15's...!! 🙂

I like the Anson for kit of the year. The real plane was in RAF service until 1968. And many thousands of airman trained on it during WW2.
It was really close...all top 3 were!
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab there is a MAJOR flaw with the Airfix "Topgun" F/A-18 kit.
@@damien5748 that doesn't surprise me but I bet it's not as bad as the new F-18 Superhornet from Revell. That is a total train wreck in plastic! 😖
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab the problem with it is its an F/A -18 A and NOT an F/A -18 E ....two VERY different aircraft.
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab hi peter,yes i have heard that Revell F/A-18 is a disaster....wonder if its a reboxing of another compaies tooling or their own....i dont know why but latley my expierence with Revell has been hit or miss.built their T-6 Texan starter set and it was total garbage to the piont i threw it in the trash,then i built their BF-109 (both 1/72 kits btw) and the 109 was FANTASTIC ,a great little kit.....

Splashed the cash after Xmas and tracked down an Iwata hp-ch for £230 after using my Iwata revolution with a 0.5 needle for 5ish years and not being completely happy with it. Just used the hp-ch for the 1st time and WOW! What a revelation!! Love the pressure control and delivery limiter but mainly the preciseness of the 0.3 needle.
Was contemplating a badger brush but like the ease of sourcing parts for the Iwata.
The 0.5 revolution will still be used for spraying large areas etc.
Looking forward to the 1st vid of 23 and were you pleased or surprised with the newly announced 23 Airfix lineup?

Hiya Chris! I must confess I was rather disappointed by the Airfix '23 releases to be honest, I think they have rather let us down this year, apart from the new Buccaneer which I am looking forward to. The Fengda airbrush has also been a disappointment, though I suppose that coming from the Iwata Hp-Ch, that was always a possibility.
@Peter Oxley yes it was a bit disappointing as just bought a better italeri F35B in 1/72 and the new tool gannet is in 1/48 which isn't my current scale of build.
Will buy the Fox and the new WW2 truck and a few re-released planes, probably the James Bond bug as well!
@@chrisdoney8578 Lol! No Bond was the name of the company who made them, it wasn't a Lotus alternative for 007! 😆 I might get the new RAF Buccaneer and the Bloodhound as my dad worked on those missiles in the late 60's.

When I first got back into making kits as an adult around 8 years ago i hunted down a bloodhound kit and made it. Very flashy and the included dog i didn't even bother with!
There is a bloodhound down the road from me at Weston Super Mare helicopter museum. Great museum and to be recommended if your ever down this neck of the woods.
Yes the bloodhound just looks 'right' and proper 50's design and engineering.
Sad the Fengda brush isn't up to expectation but did have my suspicions. Used the hp-ch again tonight and love it. Cracking back on with the KT airfix ambulance.
My wife is requesting i build the revell routemaster london bus next which I've kind of been putting off as i want to add interior illumination and lights etc....

Hi Peter and Everyone. Its been a LONG time since I purchased a new airbrush (2009) and was interesting to see your `recommendation `. The only thing that has been preventing me from getting production up and running has been good air extraction ( I use my `study`) so I have purchased one of these fold up booths..Also I feel it is time for another airbrush..Just wondering if the cheap one you showcased is an adequate ALL rounder and what might be a recommendation for a better built all rounder?

Have a look at the Procon boy airbrushes, Aubrey, as they get good reviews and cheaper than my Iwata. 👍🏻
