It's nothing like that, no version is better. Shafquat amanat ali comes from a singing family ages old, and this is his best song. Shankar himself let him sing it instead of himself. This is equally good, that's not the point though.
Hats off to the instrumental players also. A singer may be great but without the supporting violinist, saxophonist, guitarist & percussionist this song wouldn't have its Icing on the Cake. Shankar Mahadevan ji is ofcourse brilliant.
