This show grew on me from this video reaction, I honestly didn’t give it much of a chance from earlier in the season, the overall concept was to peculiar for me. but watching y’all’s channel intrigued me to give it a go. I’m now obsessed with this show !! And the pointers stated in the video helped me notice the smallest details that helped make the show what it is… powerful performance and great reaction !!
I know a couple guys that marched Bloo this year, so I’m super stoked they got the silver. Also, the picc player is Chris Mosher. He did NOT do the flugel feature later on. I don’t remember that guy’s name, but it’s different people
Extremely artistic, cohesive, and just GREAT show design. I've heard a lot of gripes about their uniform this year, but you GOTTA give it up for this show and you're incorrect if you don't. Something I've admired about Coats for a few years is that you hear CHORDS no matter how short the length is. You know that's not by accident. They definitely rep those. Elite concert ensembles have trouble with that and these guys are moving while doing it. 4:344:55 Also they're one of very few hornlines that still have such a uniquely identifiable sound in 2023. That identity lives in their texture as well as their writing. They always play in G and D, and their arranger has a unique way of voicing the hornline. Really cool. And they can play.
I went to the San Antonio regional, as it was my first time there, and first time seeing all the big corps compete and perform in the same stadium. The only video of that day I have is the bump from the bluecoats show. We were seated on the 35 on the otherside, and holy moly the trombones were still incredibly loud!
There’s something really magical about the effect of this show, between the uniforms, the theming, the narrative (both via the poem PA and the visuals) and especially the musical choices. The way the pieces fit together is EVERYTHING for this show. It’s impossible to explain exactly what it is but it’s *magical*. I can’t describe it any other way. It’s simultaneously one of the weirdest shows I’ve seen (in terms of design and structure) and one of the most heartwarming and compelling shows.
This show was my favorite since the start of the season. Though I incorrectly predicted they'd win gold (early season pick haha), Garden of Love was a true spectacle. I was at Finals live, and they had such a confident, clean run. Bump was super locked in, and yall had to be there to feel the emotion during the ballad. For one, the Bluecoats as a whole were significantly improved from 2022. For two, I still stand by my opinion that the overall visual scope of this show was unrivaled. Super excited for what this group does in 2024
By far the best overall story arch production this season. They gave life to every distinct element perfectly. Listen to the crowd reaction volume, it literally follows the story arch. Bluecoats merged story and emotion with energy.
One of my favorite little details about the ballad is the drum majors just sit down for like the whole front halve of the ballad. I really showcases the front ensembles' tempo control.
This show is amazing! I can't get enough of it. There's always something super interesting musically and/or visually happening. Bump and the ballad were especially cool and impactful in person, videos don't do them justice at all. Also, from around 7:18 to 9:00 the drum majors aren't conducting, they're just sitting and watching the show. It's a really cool detail that's really easy to miss. Props to the soloists and the pit for staying in time, it's a really hard listening listening environment especially between the flugel and the pit.
This show was awesome. Unfortunately they performed a standstill at the show I went to, but they still sounded fantastic. I love how vibrant their uniforms are (that shade of blue is GORGEOUS), and their music is always second to none. Such an amazing show, and a *very* well deserved Silver medal. And my god.....THE MELLO'S IN THIS SHOW ARE INSANE
As someone who dreams of working in show design in dci bluecoats is such a inspiration and goal to achieve. To be able to take such out there concepts and make a extremely cohesive and enjoyable show for both judges and the audience. Blue devils will always come extremely clean and refined but I don’t think a core besides maybe phantom has the sheer crowd enjoyment. I hope that one day I will achieve that level.
always great to see your reaction to what we were able to do. just fyi, the piccolo and flugelhorn soloists are two different people. both awesome players and even better people.
I truly enjoy watching the corps refine and grow/add to their show over the touring period. Going into finals I thought that Boston Crusaders would easily take second place but Crown and Bluecoats really stepped it up. I feel like most people who watch your channel and enjoy music will appreciate the Bluecoats show because it's so challenging musically and visually. I am a bit disappointed though that I won't be able to own this show on Blu-ray with excellent sound and visual quality because it deserves to be experienced in that way for those who were unable to experience it live.
I saw this show in MA just before finals week and genuinely enjoyed the entire experience start to finish. Have to say that the trombone feature was my favorite bit.
Forever waiting for you guys to react to the bluecoats alumni corps ! Or jagged line since you guys both marched it and it’s my all time favorite show!
Probably the most energy at finals of the top 5 in my opinion. The bump section was LOUD. I was on the third row on the 50. Trust me. This show was so special live- the exposed ballad section.. chilis.
For the last two seasons, the Bluecoats themes have been so far off the page that I didn’t like them early season, but both shows came together late season to where I appreciate the design and execution on a whole new level… they’re insane at what they do, congrats to the Bluecoats for silver!
Getting to watch this show so many times over the summer was a TREAT! Also it was nice to see you in the tunnel in Malik! (I was with Spirit this year if you remembered seeing me lol)
After Garden of Love, I'd love to see (and it would be really shocking) to see them do a really dark angry show next year. They've perfected the hippy psychedelic concept now make me angry and angsty lol
Ok, maybe the third time I try! Would absolutely love for you guys to react to the Bluecoats Alumni performance! Would love to see thoughts and just even more reminiscing!
Don’t be sad, I’m kidding. But like every drum major ever, Everett like to be in charge. It’s just super nice to hear more than usual from both of you. It’s also great to have commentary on a corps based on the show’s own merits rather than as a comparison to BD. The channel is great so thanks.
Just one very minor point... The priests in the poem did not signify death, they were a representation, as the whole poem is, of author William Blake's distaste for the Church of England and how they oppressed personal freedoms. Obviously, that's a tiny nit to pick, this was an excellent review, as I have come to expect from you guys.
How do y'all pay the tuiton bc I am going to audition for the devs for 2024 and I am currently a sophomore but I don't have the money to pay for the tuition
little late but a lot of people in my college band use go fund me and share it around family, friends and the band/school of music. there’s probably a lot of people that would be willing to help you if you put something like that up
Also, could y'all PLEASE react to the Blue Stars show this season? It's my FAVORITE of the year, and it's easily the most creative and unique show the Blue Stars have ever put on the field. Such a rich and Diverse show. Deserving of so much more attention.
Some wierd ass comments in here lol, anyway what an awesome ballad. The best ballad of the year imo. Also hot take, this is the best bluecoats color pallete for a show EVER.
most (if not all) corps mic certain players, usually soloists. Most of the time you can see the mic either on the player or wrapped around their instrument, simply to amplify the player's sound and not make them strain as much for loudness, so they can focus on making quality sounds
@@aldangallaway9963 true, but I like to believe that their mics are only "live" when they're playing a solo, rather than it being on all the time. It's too hard to tell when a mic is being used for amplification or if it's just on the horn to simplify things for the soloist, so I don't anticipate dci doing anything about it anytime soon
@@george9065 I saw that they posted a video a while back talking about that, and while I appreciate the idea of trying to recreate the outdoor environment inside, I think it's disingenuous to mic specific players solely for amplification. A speaker playing a hornline back vs a live hornline is too different and I would prefer to hear the live acoustics of the brass even if it isn't as loud or as clear through a speaker. I don't think it's as muddy in a dome for the direct receivers (audience) as they make it out to be (though it certainly is for the performers), but then again I can't say if I have really heard the difference between a natural and an amplified hornline in a dome, because pretty much everyone amplifies in some way. But I do think individual amplification puts too much speaker in the overall sound than the "traditional" method of lining the sideline with mics
Every time I considered buying tickets for 2023 I saw the Giant Head looking towards the stadium and heard neverending 6/8 "Daht DUH-Daht DUH-Daht". And I couldn't do it. Bluecoats are costing DCI sales.
@ayytism8857 you can't change bro .he's a monster and everyone around him is. The lies the cover ups .Jon has litteraly hurt so many children's lives because he let himself and jeffery fiedler with Dan achesons help molest kids
@Luke-fj2dj no Jon cheated on his wife from emerald Marquis. The after he found Samia and was letting her in his home in 2008. yup, my first time watching this show i honestly didn't like it but now it's for sure one of my favorites
it is so lovely and refreshing to hear such resounding positivity for this group in a season where there wasn't as much as there should be
Hard Agree
Absolutely
Both these guys marched there so I’m not surprised
but also they were pretty harsh on riffs and rev so
I know a couple guys that marched Bloo this year, so I’m super stoked they got the silver.
Also, the picc player is Chris Mosher. He did NOT do the flugel feature later on. I don’t remember that guy’s name, but it’s different people

The trumpet stagger block at 11:26 is so satisfying

mello ftw
It’s the top show as I said at the beginning of the season. Nothing compares to this program and performance.
Great video! It was a great season and an incredible show to be able to march!
Great video. Keep up the good work. Appreciate anyone(s) that is creating intelligent content about drum corps and you three are some of the best.

So original. Took drum corps to a new level. I loved this show.
FUNLINER REACTS | Bluecoats 2023
yes that is the title
Yeah mhm that’s what the title says
I cannot wait for you to review this year's show!! By far my favorite show from the Bluecoats!
I mean it is only fitting that the two bluecoat alum react to this (I love you Everett BTW!)

Bloooooooooo. Can’t wait to see what they do next! Thank you Bluecoats for another great marching art experience!
Bluecoats can pull off any concept *and still be loved
Forever waiting for you guys to react to the bluecoats alumni corps ! Or jagged line since you guys both marched it and it’s my all time favorite show!
7:35 hearing the solo with the effect would cure my depression
This show makes me excited for what’s next for the bluecoats!
This show is officially in my top 3 favorite Bluecoats shows of all time
Probably the most energy at finals of the top 5 in my opinion. The bump section was LOUD. I was on the third row on the 50. Trust me. This show was so special live- the exposed ballad section.. chilis.
While watching this show, my father said he saw some resemblance to an older corps called suncoast sound (which he marched in)
For the last two seasons, the Bluecoats themes have been so far off the page that I didn’t like them early season, but both shows came together late season to where I appreciate the design and execution on a whole new level… they’re insane at what they do, congrats to the Bluecoats for silver!

Just noticed that whole brass ensemble moment starting at 4:10 was without battery. Impressive
What an absolutely legendary show.
After Garden of Love, I'd love to see (and it would be really shocking) to see them do a really dark angry show next year. They've perfected the hippy psychedelic concept now make me angry and angsty lol
Would love to see them tap into what they did with Bump. Still trippy/weird, but more sinister
Ok, maybe the third time I try! Would absolutely love for you guys to react to the Bluecoats Alumni performance! Would love to see thoughts and just even more reminiscing!
Thank god Everett isn’t here to hate on bloo like he always does
Been waiting for this one. Oh in 30 hours? Damn it. 😂
NAH THEY CHANGED IT! PREMIERS IN 30 MINS!!!!
@@MiningSkullz36 and it changed yet again :/
@@lostinstarryskies Yep. :L
Sorry y’all. Not changing it again now

You’re right, you didn’t need Everett. 😂 I loved this show’s aesthetics and fluidity. It was so original and a joy to watch.
😢
Don’t be sad, I’m kidding. But like every drum major ever, Everett like to be in charge. It’s just super nice to hear more than usual from both of you. It’s also great to have commentary on a corps based on the show’s own merits rather than as a comparison to BD. The channel is great so thanks.
I really don’t think people understand how loud Bump was lol. That thing was one of the loudest things I’ve heard. Period.
whats that noise at the end of all of bloos hits its like a guitar strum but i notice it a lot with them, is that signature to bloo?
Honestly, the pan-cam to Everett at the beginning had me dying 😂😂
Saw you guys walking through the marketplace at finals. Unfortunately the crowd was insane so I couldn’t catch you to say hello
Honestly, my favorite show of the season and I’m intrigued by their progress as a corps throughout the season particularly in brass.

Have y’all ever thought about reacting to indoor shows? (Winds, percussion, or guard) Great video btw 👏🏼
I feel for the guy with the untied shoe who tripped at the very front
that one trumpet that fell once and tripped on his shoe 😪
How do y'all pay the tuiton bc I am going to audition for the devs for 2024 and I am currently a sophomore but I don't have the money to pay for the tuition

Garden of Love good
As a horn player and designer it would be great to have you all provide a color-guard person to react.
do mandarins except dont skip the ballad
Great vid!
Only thing about them that bugs me is that they mic individual members for amplification.
Great show and everything, just lame that they do that imo
apparently they only to that in domes since everything gets so muddy to the audience, it makes the sound more direct
