  • Our sedentary lifestyles may give rise to conditions such as Meralgia Paresthetica in which the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve becomes compressed or develops adhesions causing entrapment. Symptoms include numbing/tingling/discomfort to the “Front Pocket” area or upper lateral portion of the thigh. Add this technique for relief.

Mine is from pregnancy, left leg. Stretches def help alleviate my pain. “Doctors” get on my nerves just prescribing medications all of the damn time. If we just do our research and be consistent with working on ourselves, we could probably get rid of most of our issues. Not everyone but a lot in my opinion! Thank you!

I don't sit a lot, but I was just diagnosed with Osteoporosis in the hip, lower spine, and wrist. I know that the bone loss is directly affecting all the nerves in these areas. The tingling in the leg from the hip down to the foot, is a new sensation. I'm glad I found your video, this has helped me tremendously! Thank you. I'm a new subject and I clicked the bell for all your videos.

The pain. Excruciating pain. Constant, knee to thigh, thigh is going to snap, knee is going to explode. Unable to sleep more than 2 hours. Oxy not even hitting the sides Unable to find a single position to reduce the pain, for even 3 seconds. The throbbing, the burning. The numbbess. Its like a screwdriver in your thigh and a knife up through the kneecap. Jabbing at you. 10 nights, 9 days. I never knew how much pain i could bear. Cant stand for 10 seconds, everything excruciating. Pass out level. This is just cruel. Really, really cruel.

Works like a charm and is such an easy thing to do.
About 4 days ago I was sleeping and my left thigh went numb and I had a sudden stabbing feeling. That went away, but the numbness lingered. I do sit A LOT. Doing this and some stretches helped it feel better the same day. The numbness isn't totally gone, but I'll continue to work things out and hopefully the numbness will go away soon.

Thanks much for this video. I have been watching one video after another to find ways to resolve this issue. I take care of residential swimming pools, so I do a lot of hiking, carrying this and that with me. To have this aggravating pain in the upper right leg really makes my work day an adventure in pain. I can still work, but wow. So this method of yours is one I will be doing. Another video a therapist discovered if you place your feet under your chair, crossed over one another, and then seated more towards the edge of the chair, place knees wide, pushing hips forwards, tightening butt muscles, that relieves all the issues regarding this nerve, sciatica,, etc. The chair I have has arms on it and is very sturdy, so I can place my hands on the arms and push up at the same time. That seems to give a sort of decompression for the spine. The therapist on the other video stated he takes a break once in a while and does this stretch / exercise. I think that is the best thing I have found along with your video here

Due to wearing a body harness continually at work, I have now lived with Meralgia Paresthetica for 20 years. It's not debilitating, but it is annoying and on occasions I experience a painful burning on the left thigh even though I have lost skin sensation in that area. Nothing thus far has fixed it. Losing weight has helped. I will try the rolling pin. Thanks for the tip!

I have found deep massage an rolling help as well. But by accident in a moment of a really bad onset....I found that using very hot heating pad and having my daughter sit on me as I laid down, help to stop the stinging pain from being so intense.
Then found that adding heavy barbell weights onto a pillow helped, but they would slide off when I slept.
We got a heavy weighted blanket. I put heating pad on over my fleece blanket under the folded up in a pillowcased weighted blanket They are not cheap, but that helped tremendously.

Thank you so much for this help. I find the numbness is more towards the front, so I suppose the compression / impingement is affecting the anterior femoris cutaneous fibres of the femoral nerve. Anyway, your massage and exercises help a lot, many thanks. What can you do if the impingement is at the site of the inguinal ligament?

I am glad I found this video. My pain started shortly after starting a temporary job at work that requires me to stand around 6 to 8 1/2 hours a shift. Fortunately I will be able to go back to my forklift job that allows me to sit down most of the time. When the pain flares up, it burns like Hell "pardon my French" but when it stops, it's as if nothing happened. Does not seem to be any residual pain until it happens again. It is either on or off.

Thank you so much for your video. I have been under the impression for years that sciatica is the cause of my thigh numbness which turns into pain when I do short (3 mile) hikes or other stressors (see below). Given the location of the sciatic nerve, and the location of the femoral cutaneous nerve I now believe I have Meraligia Parestheica. However I also have symptoms of Piriformis Syndrome which complicates things. I recently fractured my pelvis (90% recovery) on the right side which has caused the Meraligia Parestheica to become much more severe when under stress...walking, standing sitting, etc, too much. I'm currently doing PT 2x per week along with the exercises at home. Do you recommend I see a neurologist for this or start incorporating your exercises (which are new to me) into my PT routine?

After nearly four years of knee pain, physio, swimming, yoga, an arthroscopy and finally a hip replacement, resting anything at all on my thigh is painful, a sensation I experienced to a lesser degree before the operation. Five months after the operation I am much stronger and can walk further albeit with heaviness in the leg but little pain, but resting anything at all on my thigh results in almost immediate quite severe pain which disappears as soon as the object is removed. Could I have Meralgia Paresthetica?

Your description sounds near to what I feel. I have numbness on my LEFT thigh down to the knee at outer side. But it also itches a lot. Sometimes it's like a sharp Burning Electrical Shock pain that I have to move my knee up - down , massage it the spot, scratch it a lot & hit or Bang the spot for pain to go away. I used to have Sciatica pain in the same leg but in back of leg & lower back pain, but that is a different pain and it's no longer there . Do I have what you're talking about? oh yeah, I'm a truck driver for 33 years & still rolling, haha. Thank you for the great information!

I've had MP for over 10 yrs & have been on Gabapentin. At most, I was on 800mg 3x/day. It did help the pain however, I was a walking zombie & gained more weight which, worsens the MP; thus a ridiculous circle. I slowly lowered my dosage to 800 mg at night when my pain is at its worst. Good luck!

I’m 31, active and in great shape. I thought this stemmed from a motorcycle accident I had a few years ago but seeing how many ppl this is affecting I’m realizing it has more to do with tighter fitting clothes and other positions that can compress the nerve. Massaging it with my hand really helps but only temporarily. My numbness and heat starts when my leg is fully extended and it’s really annoying. When I’m laying down and keep my leg flexed it goes away. If I extend my leg when I’m sleeping I end up waking up. There has to be a permanent fix for this I’m only 31 and don’t want to go down the road of corticosteroid injections this early. This is getting in the way of my career and my sleep!Help 😩

    • @mosabra9820

Lynn Pope I noticed that tighter fitting pants definitely played a role in the discomfort at the end of the day. STRETCH! stretching has been so important to me personally and massage your quads with your palm or use a bread roller, don’t be scared to apply pressure you want to get as deep into the muscle as possible. I massage right from above the knee all the way up to my groin and try to stretch out my quad as much as I can for about 5 minutes. It can hurt in the beginning and feel super uncomfortable but I noticed that when I keep going despite the pain, I feel a ton of relief. I’ve also incorporated some calisthenics workouts that really really helped and I would highly recommend. Since I’ve posted my initial comment, all these things combined almost eliminated my problem completely. I still feel a tingling sensation from time to time but I can feel it slowly dwindling as long as I keep up with the stretches and massages, they were so important to me. What worked for me might not work for everyone but I hope you at least consider trying some of those, if not all. Good luck!

Hi there, I just wanted to let you know that I have been massaging my thigh (studied remedy massage in the past so have the knack) rather than using the rolling pin. I have had HUGE success with this and the results are: far few sensations of "electric shock", pain and ache have reduced 50%, tingling and burning reduced, numbness is reducing. thanks for your help. xx

I have all the symptoms, but now I'm experiencing burning sensations. It feels like I'm being pinched. I tried doing stretchering with one knee down on the floor and the other knee up and it helped me to stand up much straighter but know I'm feeling all these sensations constantly throughout the day and trying to sleep is a challenge. The only way for me to get a little relief is to place a soft medium size spike ball under the lower part of my back or to under my hip.

I had been diagnosed with Meralgia Paresthetica 2 months ago. Still very painful after steroids for 2 weeks and PT for several more. It hurts the most after laying in bed for a few minutes, then I would get up and walk which helped. I tried the rolling pin for the last four days and it worked. Its still sore by mid day but I just use rolling pin when it starts. The tingling sensation has stopped, its mostly sore and less numbness. I am finally sleeping through night without getting up. Thanks for sharing this method.
