They toured with Deep Purple and they did this. It was crazy. The violinist was running in a circle while playing and the bass violinist was playing it behind his head. Great concert.
I had front row tix for ELO at Madison Square Garden maybe in 1978. They were tremendous and when they did this one it brought down the house. Jeff Lynne is a?master.
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 My favorite album from E L O is ELDORADO Any song of this masterpiece will do the JOB But I really like the song 🎵ELDORADO and the eldorado FINAL 🎵 They go together Keep the good work, Biz ✌️ 👏 👍🏻
FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!! 😁 I saw ELO live at the Capital Center in Largo, Maryland in 1976. They rock!! Juilliard trained musicians with exquisite talent👍👍👍👍👍👍
Chuck Berry's songs have been covered by so many artists!! I've heard him called The Shakespeare of Rock & Roll but he definitely is The King!! The ELO cover is fantastic!! It was my gateway into ELO. In the late 80's I got a 3 cd box of Chuck Berry's Chess Records stuff!! Truly spectacular!! 🎸🎸🎸
ELO's genius cover of a Chuck Berry original, incorporating elements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony, & even Chuck's falsetto "ooo's". The Beatles also covered it, & also retained Chuck's vocals. Thanks for your review.
@@cdfdesantis699 Yes, and The Beatles got their "ooooo's" from Little Richard. They used it in several songs, including this one, "I Saw Her Standing There", and, "She Loves You".
@@cdfdesantis699 Of course he drew his inspiration from Berry's original, it's a COVER of IT! lol But Berry didn't "oooooo" in his version, that was a Beatles' thing they were doing in multiple songs as an homage to Little Richard. Good grief, why is this so hard for you to understand???? smh
An epic workout and cover of Chuck Berry's classic song. Jeff Lynne the bandleader definetely had sone Rockabilly leanings. A bit of a departure from ELO's typical fare. Shows some of the band's range .
ELO is a great band. I especially love their early stuff because they featured the orchestral elements front and centre in many of their songs, just like they do in this version. The whole El Dorado album is fire because of this very reason.
I was ELO in a small venue back in the early 70s and they opened with this song. It had the entire crowd reelin' and rockin'. I'd never seen anything like it, a great show, Chuck Berry must of been proud.
Another experience song from ELO would be Standin In the Rain-the complete opposite of Mr. Blue sky. Of course you can check out the Jimi Hendrix song Are You Experienced to get a different kind of experience.
@@KD-cd2ck If you're an ELO fan already then...sure...it is a favorite but the majority of Rock fans were fans because of Radio play and this didn't have the exposure that a dozen other ELO songs did. Very few friends know this on my play list but everyone loves it.
Diana Ankudinova has released a new song! There are not enough words to describe the feeling of flight that this song gives. Diana Ankudinova - The Day You... A surprise awaits you! New vocal level!
Rockabilly might be what you're thinking. I don't know if this is rockabilly or just classical rock. Either way it really rocks more than any of their other songs! Have you done Concerto for a rainy day, or Twilight yet? Or Livin thing?
Roll Over is an ELO signature song that’s their encore when playing live. Jeff performed it as a tribute to Chuck Berry when ELO was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame a couple of years ago. Jeff said Chuck is “The King Of Rock and Roll” (sorry Elvis). For anyone who wants to see an incredible live performance of the song with synched fireworks, look up one of Jeff’s three 2016 Hollywood Bowl concerts.
My all time favorite band, my first rock concert in 1978(Journey was an opener). This was the final encore live for the existence of the original ELO. My name is Bicycle Bob and I approved this message. Review DoYa, the only hit in England with the Move, and ELO, written by Jeff Lynne.
This song is good to listen too when you wake up it gets you moving. I think Beethoven would have approved of ELOS version and the great Chuck Berrys version. ❤❤❤❤
Next from *ELO* I suggest their 1979 classic, *"The Diary of Horace Wimp".* The song tells a great little story, so make sure, Biz, that you've got your schlyrics pulled up. :)
Electric Light Orchestra's (ELO) elaborate eight-minute reworking of "Roll Over Beethoven", on the album ELO 2 in 1973, included an opening musical quote from Beethoven's Fifth Symphony and interpolations of material from the symphony's first movement into Berry's song and Peter Gunn theme in the background. This became one of ELO's signature songs and has been used to close the majority of their concerts. "Roll Over Beethoven" was the second single released by the band, in January 1973, and became their second consecutive top ten hit in the UK. An edited version of the track from ELO 2 was a #42 hit in the United States. ("Roll Over Beethoven" is a 1956 hit song written by Chuck Berry, )
I love ELO but if we are talkin covers of the Chuck Berry song, I would say check out the Beatles version from their second album with George Harrison taking lead and playing a mean guitar. It's fantastic.
This song was in recorded in 1972. George and Jeff didn't become friends until around 1987 when they recorded George’s Could Nine album. The rest is music history.
Best version of this song EVER. A clear nod to Beethoven, Tchaikovsky in the past, then a salute to Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Best dance song ever!
They toured with Deep Purple and they did this. It was crazy. The violinist was running in a circle while playing and the bass violinist was playing it behind his head. Great concert.
I saw them on that tour! Best opening act ever! The exploding cello sealed it for me!
Lol “bass violinist”.

So great live, I was given tix in the 70”s fan after that
You should see the live version on the "Zoom" tour.
One of the early criticisms of rock and roll was that if Beethoven could hear it he’d roll over in his grave.
This was Chuck Berry’s answer
A great cover of a Chuck Berry song. Chuck is the true King of Rock n Roll!

For me, the drums sound like those big surf instrumentals from the Sixties, like Pipeline and Hawaii 5-0.
Gran baterista es el de ELO. Todos excelentes multi-instrumentistas con un cerebro y líder como Jeff Lynne.

Those falsetto "ooo's" are not an homage to Chuck, but rather, Little Richard.
@@Cosmo-Kramer Actually, Jeff states that he took the vocals directly from the Beatles' version, featuring George on lead.

I know the number from Chuck Berry, the Beatles. The one from ELO is also great! 🎶🎶🎶🎶👍

One after another 😊😊😊😊
ELO has so much great music. Next up needs to be Fire on High, prefer the full version!
The most underrated song by them is Showdown...what a groovy little song. I just adore the vibe that this song has.
