  • Close Range Howling Male Coyote, a Game of Cat and Mouse! Mimicking Coyote's Howl and Bark! One of my most memorable close range calling and shooting hunts!! You will notice upon pulling up to the area I hear a coyote barking and howling within a mile of us and he was carrying on because we had spooked him and he was giving me a coyote challenge. He was warning the other coyotes in the area of our presence. This coyote gave me a challenge howl and normally I would just leave the area but I wanted to call him in and prove that it could be done. He already had seen us and knew we were there so the challenge began.
    I hope you enjoy it! www.predatorqu...

    I kept feeling nervous that ya might be walking in TOO far.... and I then felt relieved when ya stopped and sat down... and I knew as soon as ya stopped howling, ya had him hooked and I figured he'd be coming in quick on the low volume brief distress. That was great, Les! Loved it...

    I shoot a lot of red fox and in the late season the males will often bark from their territory and give a way their locations. I’ve had good luck sneaking in to a few hundred yards and playing a little Red Fox Rally followed by juvenile distress. They get all worked up and are pissed when they get to me. Works on a lot of ‘em. Great video Les!

    Les let me ask you a question I can only hear out of one ear which makes it impossible for me to tell what direction a yote, or as a matter a fact any noise including a gun shot, scary right, Lol. My question is, can you pretty much count on a yote coming at you from the down wind in a circumstance like you had here, or will he try to circle you. Great video I learn a lot from your video's. Thanks.

    I had them howling the other day same way. I was howling and they would answer. Turned on adult cottontail and ran it for 15 mins they never showed. Switched to pup distress and nothing showed. Educated yotes?

      Everything Outdoors with Les Johnson thanks for the reply I'll keep that in mind next time I sneak in. Another theory I heard is I may have been at a territory boundary and maybe should have moved in close towards the howling.

      Well Les I went into that same spot and remembered what you said. I snuck in and used the terrain as my cover. I sat down and waited a couple minutes and started with howls like you said three howls wait a few minutes three howls again wait and started on some cottontail. About five minutes later I had a pair blazing in almost to fast. Came in right to the caller and I missed. Next step is investing in a shotgun. Thanks for all your tips it really has helped.

      APACHE529CREWCHIEF That is my whole season in a nutshell! Les kills more in a day than I do all season, wish I knew how to change that. I just keep trying, at least I'm healthy enough to be out there.

    Hey I really like your video, I’m just getting into coyote hunting myself and I need some help. Earlier today I went out to my spot and started off with one howl and a couple barks, then I heard a lot of coyotes out howling in the distance, so I got out my jackrabbit call and called for 20 minutes but they didn’t even come out to check. Anyways I was wondering what I could do differently to bag my first coyote. Thanks

      Wildlifegamers, it all depends. Sometimes they will come in just as hard, but I try to just mess with the coyote enough to really make him upset and want to tear me a new one...! Thus, it sometimes comes to bite the coyote in the behind! :) Thank you for watching!

    Seems like the video had two different stands mixed into it. He said he just howled it in. But then there was a snippet of a different stand and him doing distress.

    • @everythingoutdoorswithlesj4975
      @everythingoutdoorswithlesj4975  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No Tyler if you would've listened to me at the closing, I howled several different times. Then after waiting a while and getting the coyotes full attention, I made one series of distress!

    • @MrTFERRE
      @MrTFERRE 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya totally missed that. What threw me off is the background looked different.

    • @everythingoutdoorswithlesj4975
      @everythingoutdoorswithlesj4975  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tyler, the whole secret to this whole series was the fact that the male coyote barked and howled the whole time that we walked out there. I took my time because I did not want him to see us. As near as I could tell, he never did see us and he was just over the lip of a hill about 400-700 yards away. Where we set up, I could only see 50 yards at best, so I howled at him, and he howled back. Then I waited a while and howled again. All the time he was answering back and his bitch was howling as well. Then after I had them good and riled up, I made one series of jackrabbit distress and he never howled again and that was the que that he was headed in. I put my shotgun up and the next time I saw him was when he was running over the little rise about 50 yards from me. I let him come right in without ever making another sound. He was ticked off and it got him killed. He thought that there was another coyote killing something so he let his guard down and it cost him. Thanks for watching.

    Any advice for calling coyotes in az just west of phx. What calls do you suggest ?

    • @everythingoutdoorswithlesj4975
      @everythingoutdoorswithlesj4975  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Victor, I have good friends down in Mesa and I have actually called with them on an occasion in the heat of the summer for a morning. We did call a couple coyotes in and were not shooting them. I was using a Ruffidawg Jr. open reed hand call prototype at the time. The friends of mine like using my closed reed calls down there as well. The brush country jack closed reed call. Hope that helps. Thank you.

    • @4givenfrits
      @4givenfrits 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Everything Outdoors with Les Johnson So do you prefer diaphragm calls or Reed calls? Every time I hear a Reed call, it sounds almost too "hard", while diaphragm calls sound more natural.

  • @gator9521

    I get them doing that then they end up hanging up on me, and I guess just ain't figured out the best way to entice them in.
