@@lukekiely2450 Long time ago but let me list a few points I remember:
- The airliner was a very long time at low altitude like it had glide characteristics of an ultralight. The descend should have been way steeper and way quicker
- The curt scenes were stupid. Hudson river was the best option and nobody in reality had questioned it like that in the movie. Returning to the airport would have needed the "impossible turn" and first thing you learn in flight school is: You don't fly the impossible turn as long as you are not 100% sure you can make it.
- The reaction when he said he "Eyeballed it" was stupid. In such scenario you do not calculate because it is not precise nor is it quick. You have your height above ground and your descend rate and you could calculate the remaining time in air. In an airliner you have your ground speed and you could calculate your gliding distance for a straight ahead glide. But that takes too much time. And we didn't even talk about wind or the distance reduction due to a turn because there are no landing opportunities straight ahead. You Eyeball it and nothing else: Aviate, Navigate, Communicate and maybe than Calculate.
It was over-dramatised in real hollywood style...
Since my childhood I thought airline food was hella delicious just because of this movie😂😂❤

I mean airline food is definitely getting better. I remember back in the 2000’s it really was just so you didnt have to go hungry, nowadays its actually tasty enough that it is enjoyable. Sure it doesnt compare to the food of a good restaurant, but it beats microwaved mac and cheese at home

I remember when airlines actually had decent food for the passengers, it looked much better than what was shown here. Back at that time period flying was still seen as a luxury. Then airlines began to change the aircraft as well as the types of food they served. When this movie came out and I saw him eating the airlines food it brought back memories of family trips on the airplane and actually having a decent meal in flight.
Watching this has me wondering if the people in charge of the airport hoped Tom Hanks' character would starve to death as he literally moved carts just to get enough coins for food.
They hoped he would flee in desperation so they could call police and he would become someone else's problem

I have been on a lot of flights over the years and airline food has for the most part been good, but it was much better in the past. I noticed that even Lufthansa cut corners between 2013 and 2015, when I didn't fly during 2014. Once I ordered the vegetarian option and it was bean/grain based "meatballs" with a tikka masala sauce with rice and it tasted good!
