This is gonna get buried and also make sense to exactly three whole people, but I feel like there's a lot to be said about the band Cardiacs' influence on Spirit Phone. Cardiacs were a sort of insane-pop-psychedelic-punk band led by the songwriter Tim Smith, who had a signature composition style filled with strange harmony and frequent shifts in tempo and time signature. Their album Sing to God (1995) is their most diverse and popular release, and previously Neil Cicierega has spoken about his appreciation for it. Lifetime Achievement Award and Ancient Aliens have the most direct comparisons in terms of composition, but glimpses of these influences are dotted all around various parts of various songs. If you want to hear one uncanny similarity: listen to the intro to Spiral of Ants and compare it to Tim Smith's Swimming with the Snake.
That was an AMAZING way to ring in the New Year!!!! Thank you Needlejuice, and HAPPY (early) 19TH ANNIVERSARY LEMON DEMON!!! Also, whoever did the artwork for the thumbnail, I applaud you. That looks gorgeous!! Touch Tone Telephone gets the best fan art. for those of you still here, I have a question… once one of those fabled “conventions” are safe to go to again, what outfit should I get ready? A full-on View-Monster objecthead cosplay with a handmade head and maybe even a voice changer, or a Spirit Phone costume that’s made to look like a walking illustration, and when someone takes a picture with me, I’ll press a vintage Laughing Bag in my pocket
Cosplaying a LD character?! I love it! I'd say Cabinet Man would be a good idea, because you could just wear a fancied-up cardboard box made to look like an arcade cabinet. Simple, yet unforgettable. You could also go as the No Eyed Girl. You could go wild with clothing and makeup choices. But you'd have to be kind of resourceful with covering up your eyes. You still gotta see where you're going! :D Personally, I think dressing as the actual Spirit Phone cover would be an especially stellar idea. Find yourself a red jacket and dress pants, and paint your skin red! I betcha some people would recognize it, especially if you paint the white sparkle over your eyelid. Final idea: go as Spring-Heeled Jack. He's an already well-known cryptid who is familiar to people outside the LD fandom. And, dressing as him would allow you to get all steampunk-y! (So glad to see you again on the interwebs, SP. I am smiling very big at the idea of you going to a convention in a Neil-themed cosplay. Please, please do it, if you can make it to a con).

If you want to hear one uncanny similarity: listen to the intro to Spiral of Ants and compare it to Tim Smith's Swimming with the Snake.
i am not one of the 3 people this makes sense to

LEMON DEMON CONVENTION???

WOAH-
I'd be scared to even go to a convention

@@floridaflamingogirl3119 I was thinking of buying a satin jacket, pants, and a tie if I were to cosplay Spirit Phone so it could have the shine of an illustration without having to paint it on. A lot of people who are into today’s generation of Minecraft youtubers know Lemon Demon from Ranboo. I don’t watch him or any of them but if they recognize me and love my costume that would make my day >w<
I don’t know how I would make it around in a bulky arcade machine costume ;w;
Ooh!! And the way one of my friends interprets the No-Eyed Girl is based off a fantasy cosplay she saw!! I wouldn’t mind dressing steampunk either and I thought about a soft fuzzy man inspired outfit to wear casually. I’m SUPER HAPPY to see you again too!!! I hope this virus dies down sometime soon but until then I’ll be working on my costumes 🎶
Neil really knew how to make music interesting
I hope he does stuff like this again sometime, id like to think about the narritives of all thesongs into detail and they really help with work
This is some of my favorite music out there! Ik he probably gets to hear that a lot but its been a year and a half since I first found out about this and I’ve been listening to songs on loop at least twice every week

its amazing how much better this sounds compared to the original. the ride cymbal in touch tone telephone's chorus, the sparkles in the beginning of spiral of ants, all so much more audible and it gives the songs so much more instrumental depth. brings even more life to an already energetic album. good shit needlejuice
1st favorite album of all time!! Hopefully the new View-Monster remaster can also be released, though that's unlikely considering that we already have the old remaster here with its own visualiser and a 100k views but it'd still be cool!

I absolutely love how the album perfectly loops, especially with how spiral of ants is the last track with the line "the circle rules your life" just an amazing detail. I could listen to this album forever tbh it's just that good
also spiral of ants (the last track) can be interpreted as being about death, while lifetime achievement award (the first track) can be interpreted as being about revival
@@inactivepleasegoaway YES, I THOUGHT THAT WAS SUCH A COOL THING BT THE SONGS
Spiral of Ants can also be seen as a metaphor for life under capitalism, while Lifetime Achievement Award is about his joy can't even escape that exploitation through dying.

When I hear Spiral of Ants, I don't hear a song, but laughter. A laugh at society laughing at how dumb it is, laughing at all the people who make themselves the same. Laughing at expectations. Laughing at economy and capitalism. Laughing at education. Laughing at....
My friend showed me Lemon Demon, and the first song I listened to by Lemon Demon was Lifetime Achievement Award. This began an amazing arc in my life, and I never knew that Lemon Demon would be such a great music producer. Tops to you Niel for making such amazing songs!!!!!
woah its like, HD now thats insane
wow! my headphones are so incredibly great (along with my also just as incredible hearing!) that I dont hear anything different and feel very left out seeing all the comments... :(
yeah, as someone with good hearing and headphones I'm not hearing anything different
i think the comments are just about the album in general
I'm not sure if it's just the fact that I have Sennheiser HD 400S's but it's really the actual instrumental that has been remastered and you need to pay close attention to. Certain instruments are amplified/emphasized in this remaster more than the original, just the same as some instruments have been lowered or muffled. The bass is much clearer and alot "thumpier" if that makes any sense. Twinkling "sparkly" noises are accentuated with cleaner and smoother highs. The drums in general have more of a soundstage and emphasis in this version which I personally quite enjoy. I wouldn't say it's necessarily very DIFFERENT persay but its ENHANCED and given that extra umph that really makes this version preferable over the original. Now that's not to take away from the awesomeness that is the original at all. I saw someone else say that the label didn't exactly think the mastering of this album was the proper "style" for the type of music it is. And I would agree with that. OG Spirit Phone is obviously amazing but when you put a close listening ear to it (or maybe have $60+ headphones, who knows), this version is like the chefs kiss addition to what was already a pretty amazing album.
TLDR: It is different (mainly instrumentally), and you just have to attentively listen to really notice the differences
this blows my mind
